Wilders post match interview

A lot of the squad were on the piss in Manchester last night, some of them heavily. So they are not going to be as fit as the more professional players who don’t do that during the season.
The amount of times I’ve heard this about our squad takes the absolute piss.

I also heard from someone at the club that Selles wouldn’t stand for it a lot of them got the right kite on about it.

this not changing a winning team thing is bollocks, you do also have to adjust your tactics and line up to the opposition, and playing at home is a factor too. Derby are a big, and physical, but struggling and limited side, and we played into their hands by not playing it out wide and on the deck from the off and starting Donovan and Peck.

I just listened to the interview and think it’s just some basic man management stuff he’s doing. He’s not going to unnecessarily knock BBD and Chong is he, and likewise maybe Donovan is a player that needs a bit of tough love. There was a suggestion somewhere (can’t remember where I read it) that Donovan had some attitude problems which maybe stalled his progress after breaking through at Birmingham when he was really young. Maybe wilder doesn’t want him to get ahead of himself. However, if he doesn’t start him on Friday then he’s seriously blinkered. I feel like Wilder has been similarly begrudging of praise for certain players (Seriki being another where he never seems to want to praise him publicly) but I do also think he’s a good man manager and most players seem to like him and want to play for him. He might be saying different things behind closed doors. I understand why he didn’t start Seriki when he hasn’t played in a month or so and the risk of re-injury is higher. I don’t think Seriki will start on Friday either which is fair enough and probably better to play him second half against tired legs.
Nice post and well put . It’s good to have perspective and different slants - Thanks

I don't think Wilder is "finished at this level." He's still a pretty competent manager that will get you around par for the squad you have (results wise).

I do think he's way past his peak though. At his best, he could (and did) massively outperform his means through clever recruitment, motivational talent and tactical nous (along with Knill).

I do have Wilder fatigue, part of me would like to see something new, the football is awful....
but - crucially - I don't trust our owners to get big decisions right. They haven't shown any ability, in any area, so far... they've done nothing to improve the footballing infrastructure above the manager. They're useless.

At least with Wilder, he should keep us steady and you know he genuinely cares about the club.

It's a tough one. I flip between the two sides.
your right captain he will keep us up the squad is good enough to achieve that but boy its a hard watch just now and i think the loss of alan knill is a major factor wilder looks lost and devoid of ideas on the touchline this season younger more progressive coach needs to be brought in whether its this season or next summer

I've posted before that Wilder is just making too many mistakes this season and he was at it again today.
Wrong starting team selection, Donavan and Peck should have started. Choudhury shouldn't have been brought back in.
Should have made changes at half time bringing on Seriki, Peck and Donavan instead of wasting the first 12 minutes.
Ok halfbaked. How does Peck start instead of Blaster or Philips, who were both excellent v Brizzle?

He'd made 4 of the allotted 5 subs by the 67th minute. Guehi was subbed as he was on a yellow and walking a tightrope. It's okay to have a pop at the manager for his mistakes but let's not make stuff up.
In fairness he only made 2 of those subs (Donovan & Ayew) in response to the red card. He watched a shambolic 45 minutes and changed nothing, then wasted another 12 minutes before making 2 like for like changes.

I know sometimes a manager can give his starting 11 a rocket & give them 5/10 minutes to respond but this is happening nearly every week. It was so evident the starting 11 was wrong & the shape wasn’t working, but Wilder refused to adapt proactively.

Because Peck's better than Arblaster. He's fitter and he isn't scared to tackle and be tackled.

Phillips is a class above most games but while Arblaster's showing against a terrible Bristol City was decent, he should never get the shirt in front of Peck because he can't play two full games to a decent standard in a month.

Never get the shirt? really? Blaster was excellent v Brizzle not just decent. He was bobbar v Rams. Bet is that Peck starts v Hollywood fc.

To be fair, who wouldn’t have an attitude problem if you were clearly one of the better outfield players and you weren’t getting picked? It’s not fair.

Meanwhile he looks over at the contributions of Choudhury as a right back snd BBD and it would be understandable if he had the hump.

Still totally unclear why he got dropped in the first place.

He was a big improvement on his recent performances but nowhere near the player Peck is. The injury finished him, he'll have a few moments here and there but will never be a consistently good performer at Championship level.

Big call to make re: Arblaster. He's only 22/23.

It was a very bad injury, but he's showing flashes of his former self. There's no decent reason to think he can't, with the right attitude & persistent minutes, find a level of consistency around his peak.

Has he not recently become a Dad too? All of this does have an effect on people.

He's taken strides this season. It's not a rapid improvement, but definitely seeing some of the old Oli... I'd hate to lose him.

No one has claimed Peck should have been chosen over KP. That’s a daft statement to make with no relevance. The reason many prefer him to Blaster is a) OA is so up and down in performances, Bristol without doubt the best of a poor bunch (which includes Saturday) and b) Sydie is an all round better player.

Personally, and I know this upsets some of the honkers out there, you can go back a few years and see that I never thought Arblaster was anywhere near being a future England star, or even captain as some said. I thought he had some talent, could pick a pass but was too slow and not dynamic enough to be a consistently good player, especially at the top level.

Terrible injury that he suffered and the legacy is that he's even slower now and is much less likely to make tackles or take hits. As you said, he recently became a dad and who knows, maybe he's getting more of a chance than others get because of who his kids grandad is?

Oh, I will admit to liking your rum though 👍

Unfortunately I see a Dave Bassett scenario happening here with Wilder.Harry went through a period where he didn't get support from the club and not getting a response from the players without having to let rip at half time. Classic case of a mans time having run out at the club .
Harry almost said thankyou in the end as he Knew his time was up! Will Wilder go as gracefully as Dave? Time will tell.
I like lots of Blades want CW to pull it together unfortunately as seen before when players stop listening its the beginning of the end.
Bollockings work if only used occasionally and that happens to all clubs when standards drop ! It can be a great get out of jail card occasionally but not almost every match which seems to be the case with us.
CW given us some great times but as a supporter of the club 1st and CW 2nd maybe his time is up.
I find it hard to say that but fans are turning against him and some are voting with there feet, maybe its the best time to make a change as I can see us sliding in to a relegation battle.
I do really hope I'm wrong but historicall signs are there.
Have the owners been sniffing for a new leader ! They should have after the Pigs ear they made of it last time.
Don't beleave it has to be an English leader there are some great young coaches around ! Surely they have someone onboard who can give them sound advice .
They still have no one on board to advise them and wouldn't know a good club structure or manager if they fell over it.
I'm afraid that's where we're at.
Clueless owners clinging on to someone they thought the fans would blindly follow and he's clinging on to them & his mate Bettis with his last ounce of common sense.
If it were a sitcom on telly , folk would complain that it's just not credible.

Wilder has been a good servant for the club and the season before last [92pts] showed he could still do it and he had my support
But this year with the signings 1/Matt Doherty, 2/Hamza Choudhury [though to be fair he did play RB well two years ago]
3/Riedewald, 4/Ayew and 5/ BBD and the juries still out on Rothwell and Canon left us all scratching our heads

BUT last Saturday when we were clearly clearly second best against a team that had not won in 7 matches and he failed to make any changes at half time left him looking like a rabbit in the headlights and I reluctantly think its time for him to go
