Wilders post match interview

Steve Cooper? Been out of work a bit now, might be up for it? Didn't set the world on fire at Leicester or Bronby but did well at Swansea on a frees and loans only restriction, not to mention getting Forest off the bottom of the Champ to the PL?

It's been repeated numerous times on here, but our owners aren't going to sack Wilder and bring someone like Cooper in this season. A move like that will also entail moving on a lot of the coaching staff so the new manager can bring his team in. It would involve paying off Wilder and the staff and putting a financial package together to bring in the new manager, Cooper or whoever, and his preferred team.

Unless we look in serious danger of relegation, no change will be made before the summer, and probably not then if we finish in or close to the play-offs. Given what happened last time, out owners will be wary of making a change and they won't want to fork out millions for a new manager who isn't guaranteed to do better.

Cooper was a disaster at Brondby, btw, but I still rate him. He's a good shout as other clubs won't be too keen given his recent record. But speculation is pointless atm.

If you thought Chong was decent enough first half then you were watching a different match to me. It's not for me to defend Wilder. As I've made clear there's plenty of legitimate reasons to have a pop at him without making stuff up. In fact, if we're being bloody minded, it could be argued the timing of the subs was spot on.

Yet Arblaster was one of the first two off and CW chose to leave Chong on for the full game. That’s not made up is it?

You can argue the merits of Chong v BBD but I don’t think a single fan would argue of the three Donovan would be first pick every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
I’d take Donovan and play a man down rather than have Chong and BBD on the pitch. Awful footballers that encapsulates the absolutely shit our squad has become.

He's turned into Nigel Clough but without the cup runs

It’s funny you should liken him to Clough because I was only thinking the same this morning.

I think he’s done at this level now. Without United and his reluctance to work in a more modern structure I don’t think any other championship chairman gives him a job.

I can see him finding happiness in something like Cloughs Mansfield / Chesterfield / Barnsley or similar.

Somewhere local, without the pressure of running ‘his club’ and somewhere that would allow a more old school approach for the next few years.

Once he’s gone and the dust settles the blades that want him out will ultimately look back on him as the best manager of our generation and with lots of fondness but before long it’s going to get nasty and as much as I’d like him moved on I don’t want to be chanting Wilder out either.

Arblaster was poor as were 9 others first half. Just maybe he'd given them a bollocking at HT and was hoping to see a reaction. It didn't happen so subs were made. That's what managers do isn't it? Chong was honking by the way, especially first half and missed a sitter second half.

I look back at him now as one of the best.

But it’s a heavily patina’d legacy now. A pale imitation of how things were

Probably not... but the fans are, somehow dont see the owners like seeing an empty stadium 🤔
Next season looks like being a major reset with the number of players who will be out of contract. There’s a big opportunity to begin the process of piecing together an exciting young side that will require patience for a season or two as it develops, but I think the fans will get behind that if they can see forward momentum. What’s badly needed is some optimism and a sense of direction. It will require the owners to take some smart decisions, though. Sadly, that’s hardly a given.

spot on tj if we didnt have 21k season ticket holders we would be getting under 20k watching the rubbish that wilder is dishing up and first worrying signs yesterday that even season ticket holders are turning their backs on the club cant have been more than 22k in the ground yesterday and that incuded 2800 derby fans united fans reacting to wilderball as pig fans reacted to get chansiri out by not attending games its time for a change wilder is finished at this level and it pains me to say that after being one of his biggest fans first time round a mere shadow of his former self utb ftp ⚔️⚔️⚔️

Apart from when he says that if he had left out BBD or Chong for Donovan the fans would have complained. That’s just concerning.
My lad was saying this morning wilder reminds him of cloughie , absolutely brilliant at one club ( I reminded him of Derby but he's only 39 so didn't realise) that like cloughie at forest he has become a legend here but that "status" is going to disappear very quickly because he's loosing the respect of the fans.
He added he must know what's happening within the fans opinions because surely he must read forums like this one ?

I just listened to the interview and think it’s just some basic man management stuff he’s doing. He’s not going to unnecessarily knock BBD and Chong is he, and likewise maybe Donovan is a player that needs a bit of tough love. There was a suggestion somewhere (can’t remember where I read it) that Donovan had some attitude problems which maybe stalled his progress after breaking through at Birmingham when he was really young. Maybe wilder doesn’t want him to get ahead of himself. However, if he doesn’t start him on Friday then he’s seriously blinkered. I feel like Wilder has been similarly begrudging of praise for certain players (Seriki being another where he never seems to want to praise him publicly) but I do also think he’s a good man manager and most players seem to like him and want to play for him. He might be saying different things behind closed doors. I understand why he didn’t start Seriki when he hasn’t played in a month or so and the risk of re-injury is higher. I don’t think Seriki will start on Friday either which is fair enough and probably better to play him second half against tired legs.

Said to my mate, that anyone who knows anything about American Football might see parallels between us and the Cleveland Browns. I remember the fans wearing paper bags over their heads and their stadium being half full if that. Rosen is from Ohio and wants a Dawg Pound FFS. I’m sure he knows full well what a dispirited and disillusioned fanbase looks like.

Maybe we should emulate the Cleveland Browns and have a carousel of managers as well, that clearly would be the best plan by our owners 🤐

The conversation is nowhere near as black and white as it used to be. He could have left at the end of the season where he took over from Hecky and would have gone down as a true Sheffield United great.

Now, if he ever does actually leave, he’ll be equally remembered for managed decline and god awful football. Not a patch on Basset, on the same level as Warnock or Hecky for me.

Weird isnt it. We undoubtedly played the best football ive seen as a blade in 38 years..

To arguably the worst football.

The fittest side ive seen, so the most unfit side ive ever seen.

All under same manager.

A lot of the squad were on the piss in Manchester last night, some of them heavily. So they are not going to be as fit as the more professional players who don’t do that during the season.

Why mention anyone but Donovan?

I don't think Wilder is "finished at this level." He's still a pretty competent manager that will get you around par for the squad you have (results wise).

I do think he's way past his peak though. At his best, he could (and did) massively outperform his means through clever recruitment, motivational talent and tactical nous (along with Knill).

I do have Wilder fatigue, part of me would like to see something new, the football is awful....
but - crucially - I don't trust our owners to get big decisions right. They haven't shown any ability, in any area, so far... they've done nothing to improve the footballing infrastructure above the manager. They're useless.

At least with Wilder, he should keep us steady and you know he genuinely cares about the club.

It's a tough one. I flip between the two sides.

My hope, and it is only hope, is that they learned from the Selles debacle and will take a different approach to the next appointment, hopefully engaging the services of someone who knows what they’re doing to lead the process. But we’ll see.

Comes as no surprise, part of our cultute.
