Wilder's Dig at Jos

When they hate our manager and we hate their's its usually because they're a decent manager, and they know that Wilder is making us the best side in the city, so naturally they seize every opportunity to have a pop. I don't recall them disliking Adkins, and nor did many of our fans dislike Carlos!

Tried to read the whole thread started getting irony poisoning, it was very repetitive anyway.

It's very mild stuff from Wilder tbf.

Pigs lathering themselves up into a frenzy about it, cos they've got fuck all to get excited about - neither with their shower of ridiculously overpaid/overvalued shite, nor with Borat's apparently insipid interview.

Scrubbers is all I’ve read today from them, jealousy gets you no where

I like this one best, we've got "a sick list like the first day on the Somme" and another poster thinks he's part of a Wednesday 'master race' ....... are they just trying to make the new manager feel at home, regardless that it's probably illegal to say you are part of the master race in Berlin since 1946?

How can that Berlin derby have any real rivalry???

Hertha Berlin and Union Berlin have only EVER played each other 4 times in their entire histories.
Hertha have won 1, Union have won 1 and there’s been 2 draws.

I live in Berlin and follow the local football closely (season ticket at BFC Dynamo). I can honestly say the pigs harping on about Hertha and the 'Berlin Derby' are talking bobar.

Firstly, Hertha's ground may be big, but it's a terrible atmosphere. Even their own fans say so and most want to move to a proper four sided football stadium for this reason.

Hertha are a bit of a joke club as well. Perennial underperformers and painfully commercial, think carlsberg in blue tins with club crest. Loads of daytrippers and 'new berliners' (out of towners and foreigners who just want to watch bundesliga). Don't get me wrong they have some quality fans, particularly in old west Berlin working class areas like Wedding or Spandau but these are far outweighed by gloryhunting (ironically cos they win nowt) dimwits from satellite suburbs. Theres a few parallels with wednesday in the blue and white stripes, shit atmosphere in a ground too big for them and nobhead fans.

Union were close to ruin only 10ish years ago playing in front of crowds of 5000. They were traditionally the anti-communist team in East Berlin. Fans were a mixture of hippies, rowdies who used to chant liverpool cos of their hooligan rep in europe (heysel etc) and locals from the deep south east where the club is. Fans are pretty decent nowadays but the club is getting a bit of a hipster reputation with lots of people who don't go to matches wearing gear cos its become the latest cool Berlin thing to do. Some of the brats you meet from london or madrid and that are unbearable.

The 'berlin derby' is an utter joke because during the division of the city (up to 1989 for all young uns) hertha and union were actually best pals. They used to wear each other's shirts, fly each other's flags and sing each other's songs. Some gesture of Berliner solidarity across the wall I guess. Younger generation's forgotten about it now and their main interaction is putting stickers over each others in the u bahn. They don't really give a shit about each other.

The real Berlin derby, as all true burgundy and white Berliners know, is Dynamo v Union. They properly hate each other and 15,000 turned out to watch their reserve sides play cos theyve been in separate leagues for so many years.

Dynamo were the communist/working class side in East Berlin. Mad head fans. Proper support despite decades of being shite. But they did beat the scabs at the city ground once back in 1980.

In short, Luhukay has previous in failing to turn a massive sleeping giant round and his 'derby experience' won't have prepared him for friday night at bdtbl!

Thanks for that Dynamo. Learning about football cultures in other cities/ countries is really interesting.

I heard a quote on tv (think it was the German football show) that “Berlin is the city that German football forgot”.

Apparently the Berlin teams have under performed so often, for so many decades, that it’s never at any time been classed as a proper football city (compared to Hamburg, Munich, Dortmund etc).

Cheers for the insight Dynamo. Interesting read

BTW, Dynamo, show us a few magic tricks ;)

Hertha were nailed on to win two but Rudolf Hess put through his own goal in the 94th minute.

Its definitely been underperforming since 1990. Union and Dynamo both been close to going bust several times over the years. The football system was amateur/semi pro in East Germany, clubs were financed by industries or organisations and the players came from their respective branches. Dynamo was the police/fire brigade/customs officers. Union was the Trade Union federation (unsurprisingly). They were naive in the cut throat 90s and got ripped off by western clubs and carpetbagging businessmen.

Berlin did have a couple of good spells in the late 70s when Hertha made it to a semi-final in Europe and Dynamo got to the quarters, beating Forest away but losing at home in Berlin as the scabs went on to win it. Ironically, the match program from Nottingham has an advert calling for new miners to sign on for a 'job for life'.

Dynamo got to a semi in 72 I think as well losing to their namesakes from Moscow.

In terms of success though it is surprisingly lacking for a city that loves football as much as Berlin does. There are so many smaller clubs and stadiums dotted about, proper Kicker Kultur as the Germans call it.

Hopefully that'll all change once Dynamo take up their rightful place in the Bundesliga!

love CW's interviews , he just is a top Blade and manager
the way he talks about us , the past and how we have been down for the past 6 years until recently and had to deal with them lot sneering at us ,
how fantastic is it to have a manager who talks about the clubs past with such personal feelings not just since he has been here ( which a hell of allot of managers would do as he has done an amazing job and plenty would just harp on about that )
it's what he has felt/ feels as a fan of the club he is so passionate about.

God love you Mr Wilder !
come on lads do the man proud and give him a double !

We just need to back that up tomorrow night now...

Us fans. We certainly do. Unfortunately most of us suffer from Bladey Inferiority Complex and would rather say nothing, ever, lest we ‘sound like the Pigs’. It’s the guiding light in our lives so we sit like dummies in the corner saying nothing for fear of saying something wrong.

We’re massive. We’ve got a far better team than the grunters and their manager is a fucking wierd Ron Mael look-alike. We took them apart and humiliated them in front of the whole nation at the Piggery. It was the Bouncing Day Massacre.

This city is ours.

Those fucking pigs cunts have got more sand in their fannies than what's on Mablethorpe North Beach. They hate the fact that we are doing well and they have basically sold the soul of their club to an egotistical dolphin botherer don't they?

It's wonderful.
