Section 47, Offences Against The Person Act 1861 - the act that covers assault legislation

'
  • Intent or Recklessness: The defendant can be guilty if they either intended to cause the victim to apprehend immediate unlawful violence, or if they acted recklessly and didn't care about the effect their actions would have on the victim.
Your legal knowledge is lacking I'm afraid.

And, I don't have to read up on it. Momentary loss of control is often the cause of one individual assaulting another, intentionally or recklessly, and it is irrelevant as to where the suspected offender was born or who they follow as a football club.

He let us down, again.
He didn't apprehend immediate unlawful violence. It's nonsense.
But, maybe you are correct and CW will be at the station now in the cells. Possibly.

I don’t like Wilder much but saying it’s assault is very hyperbolic considering fans get hit with the ball most weeks. An apology and some merchandise freebies is all that incident requires.

He will still get a fine from the FA for the incident.
Most wayward balls that find their way into the crowd aren't intentionally booted whilst the game's stopped.

Fuck Will Still. The man got into management through playing Football Manager. Probably grew up in the library at school the fucking nerd. Love owt like Wilder twatting the ball. Imagine a world where we’re being managed by someone who can’t handle half a shandy?
I'm not 100% sure the meaning of this post, wether its in jest or your serious thoughts.

What I do know is, one manager has 3 points more than the other after the game.

CW didn't mean to smash the ball into the crowd, but he does need to try and reduce his passion and put it in the right areas.

We will never know if the start to the 2nd half was part because CW wasnt stood in the technical area, but if it is, then there is even more pressure on CW to keep his head and be at the players side.

Oh and as for his technique when striking the ball, you could tell he was a right back because his left foot is terrible 🤣

Reading threads like this makes me think about following a different sport.
How many spectators were hit by the ball under Basset and Warnock when the players would hoof it out deliberately.

I hope the club does the right thing by the fella that was hit, and that he is alright though.

He looks like disgraced Sheffield Hallam MP, Jared O'Mara.

Wilder needs to start consistently winning some games quickly. If we're already at the stage that him accidentally kicking a football at someone means he's guilty of an assault, I worry what he'll be accused of if we're still down there at Christmas. I hope he's got a good lawyer.

Moving on from the kicking the ball into the crowd incident.

Wilder constantly telling us that a basic for a Blades player is 'to run around' is becoming a little tiring.

What I saw last night was our players unable to press theirs and Southampton being more than capable of pressing us.

We gave them all the time in the world to keep possession and play as they wished.

Our 'running around' is not really effective.
Pressing is a team effort. Seeing O’Hare rushing around between players who casually sidestepped him or passed around him summed up how badly organised/coached we are. A press has to be a collective effort, usually triggered by a mis -control or a player caught wide and deep. You have to move as a unit, shutting down angles and passing lines or you are simply wasting energy. Worse than that it pulls players out of midfield and opens up routes to attack

I'm absolutely fascinated to know how many people have been charged with assault by football. Or... Would this be the first time it's happened on the the planet?

He was aiming low but hit a fan in the face. It's basically Hamers shooting ability all season! Anyway here's a clip...

Wilder’s punishment should be to put on out-of-hours coaching sessions for all our players who are unable to kick a football properly with their ‘wrong’ foot. And hats off to the guy who was hit. Seems to have reacted admirably.

He's basically just a mardy old bugger who can't handle situations where the pressure is on, so reverts to being a bit of a kop yob/petulant twat in response.
He needs to grow up, get professional, or piss off.
It’s the same when he’s winning too.

You can’t run a football team on emotion and narrative. If he can’t keep a lid on it he needs to go back to the golf course.

I mean it's a silly thing to do specially when frustrated but I think you're all trying WAY too hard to consider it something bigger than it is.

I'm neither a Wilder lover or a hater these days, I'm fairly 'meh' about the whole thing to be honest but I would wager every one of you have thrown, hit, kicked, or done something like that when you're frustrated or pissed off.

More to the point had we won I doubt anyone would have given much of a fuck anyway. Move on, it's not that deep

Maybe in private, but this is his job, he's the figurehead of the team, the club. If I was behaving like this at work, I'd be sacked. And we wonder why we've had former referees saying things like "well if you know Sheffield United..." etc, things like this really don't help our cause

Managers, players, assistants and anyone else involved losing their temper on the sidelines is hardly anything new. I agree to an extent and I also wouldn't excuse it but it's not even a talking point for me.

Shit happens, move on.

I agree but 3 games in to his return and he already looks like getting fined for poor discipline. If anyone needed a little reminder why some of the board took the decision to bin him look no further than that incident last night.

It obviously is a talking point though isn't it? It was the main headline for the BBC match report. You might think it doesn't matter, but shit sticks and Wilder is accumulating these stupid situations now.

All my years of standing and sitting behind the goal on the Kop, and my goalkeeping skills have been wasted because I have never once touched the matchball. I am thinking of moving to the posh seats in the South Stand to fulfil my ambition🤣🤣
My hands are fucked so I’ll have to let it hit me in the face…

Clearly it’s not an issue to the board.

It wasn’t exactly an unknown when he was brought back.

But it’s all about the bottom line with COH

They're hysterical again. He's just kicked a ball away as it's come to him and it went in crowd. You can see his face he's not smashed it in anger. Such nasty and over top comments from the usual suspects. Why not just stop paying attention until he's gone if you cant put your dislike for him aside? It's pathetic. Just glad the actual fans who go to games aren't like you.
