So the contract would have protected the employer by ensuring they get the compensation they deserve. How therefore are they not worth anything?

He didn't fall out with him at Oxford. He fell out with the Chairman and Donald was only a board member.

The minx (and conspiracy theorist) this morning has me wondering if this 'news' has been broken by the club in advance of the new Sunderland owners taking over this week. Therefore any developments from here would put the owners in the clear whilst painting Tufty and Sunderland as the villains...

In the rest of my life I'm a positive can-do kind of guy but where Utd are concerned I turn into a paranoid doom sayer....

I need help!

Depends what’s in the contract. At the very least it means it would be even more expensive for another club to offer him a job just as it would be more expensive for us to sack him.
Unless you aren’t a fan of the manager, him signing a new deal can’t be anything but a positive thing as he’s clearly had some assurances about moving the club forward otherwise why would he have signed?
 
We should be rejoicing in this news......
However we all know how football works. A new contract is nothing more than a protection of sufc property. Wilder could leave tomorrow like he could have yesterday, but tomorrow he's worth a few quid more compensation than yesterday. Just a cynical twist on the affair.

What would you want a contract to be? That’s not his football works, it’s how contracts work, and it doesn’t just protect SUFC it also protects Wilder. It’s win/win.

Anyone can be pinched in football but at least this shows that he is reasonably happy with the way forward.
The club has shown they want to keep him and he now can work with the budget ( however big ) he has, all positive and he's got a payrise thrown in.Don't beleave that was the reason for his out burst but it's a win all round ,we can now look forward to an interesting summer.
Hopefully the people who have not renewed due to the situation will now book there tickets ,it's obviouse some have been edging.
 
It hasn't changed anything - except the amount of compensation the club would be paid if he was tempted away.
 
I was under the impression CW hasn't signed yet. Last I heard he was due to sign at the end of next week ........... after the Sunderland take over is complete. Could well be make your mind up time for CW next week I see no reason for all the celebrations just yet I'll wait until the ink is dry.

Wilder shouldn’t get any extra money if he signs the contract, he should give what they’re offering extra straight to the transfer kitty, what with principles and all that. ;) :)
 
Excellent news...whether the budget quote is correct or not will become apparent when we sign a couple of players
 
Middle- ranking budget may be enough. I said last season that we were so close to being a good side and that it just needed that little bit more quality. The chances our strikers missed at times was criminal (though I won’t slate their return at all). We also missed goals from midfield and wing-back positions (Freeman was a big miss).

The wage ceiling needs to be raised in order to attract those better quality players. Said at work other day that Cameron Jerome would be ideal for us (yeah yeah wages). It won’t take a huge sum, but it needs more.
 
The main thing for me is that we can improve our squad. If your not moving forward in this division you can slide backwards very quickly.

I know us as fans expect us to push for playoffs. For me anything above 16th is good. Teams take years of constant graft and spending to end up pushing for playoffs.

Best example is Brentford. Decent budget every year buy couple every season and eventually you can compete.
 
Middle ranking is seriously rich, relatively. Great news if correct.
 
So, without knowing who exactly is providing the funding for these improved contracts or how much a "mid table clubs" budget actually amounts too, all is fine in Bladesland.

But only a couple of weeks ago there was plenty of angst about which one of our shyster owners was taking over in full and running the club on a shoestring.....

Actually, the correct quote is 'thought to favourably compare with the majority of middle-ranking teams in the division.'

To compare favourably means 'better than' !
