Why couldn't they just assure him as to the transfer kitty and not bother with a new contract at all, if as you say his pay increase was merely a byproduct?

Haven't we hauled players over the forum coals for threatening to leave in order to get a pay rise?
Sorry mate, was said tongue in cheek,

Scooter's right, if Sunderland called him back for a final interview with a mega bucks offer, I still think he could go, but obvs hope not.
He's under contract already. Sunderland (or anyone else) can only approach him with our boards' permission. This article (if correct) suggests that they didn't, nor would agree to such an approach, which basically means (as we all really suspected) the rumours about Sunderland being a done deal were shite.

This news doesn't surprise me at all. The longer it's gone on the more confident I've been that he'd stay. I think that's been the consensus general. The new contract is maybe a slight surprise. He's certainly looking after himself isn't he.

A xfer budget could be anything, could be 500k for all we know.

I WANT A WAR CHEST!
Don`t we all ? However the fact he has agreed an extension would suggest progress has been made and a budget is in place or close to it. I wouldn`t expect the size of it to become public knowledge so that, if it is significant, prices of targeted players don`t get hiked.

Well that’s it now. The squad can only get even better so I would say a promotion push is on next season. Perfectly achievable with this manager.

You have lost me here. Are you saying his new contract is nothing to do with more money for him and that it has everything to do with budget and strategy?

If I were a gambling man I would suggest that his increased salary and length of contract are covered in the contract and it has F all about ambition and budget....

For me when i listened to the preston interview. That started the whole thing.

The things that had to change wasnt a wage increase im sure hes happy with his salary. He'd rather be on hypotheifcal 10k a week & play off challenge. Than 20k a week & a relegation battle

we know wilder is competive guy. who wants 100% , wont settle for average or any complacency. We know that from many post match interviews like hull
. What he wanted was to know that he would have the budget to get 5 players he says he needed to improve the squad like he did last season. & to know that he will keep his best players.

Not wishing to throw a spanner in the works but the online edition of The Star says he is expected to sign this later this month.

McCabe and Prince Abdullah agreed to fund Wilder's new deal along with a summer transfer budget.

I think that’s the key phrase. Is there really anyone who thinks a manager who gets a top ten finish with a bottom six budget doesn’t deserve a pay rise?
A lot on here apparently

He definitely deserves a pay rise but as others have said I bet the size of the transfer budget is of bigger interest to Wilder than the size of then pay rise

Sell Brooks for 12 million, Chris get's half of that to spend on players and a wage hike. The rest goes on servicing the club's annual losses. Bring on next season/

just looked & I still stand by what i said a week ago today. wilder "signing" should only be good news as it was never about wages or contract length. it was about budget & strategy for next season. & him staying can only be good. because we would hope that his ambitions to least try & maintain a play off push next season. but at the end of the transfer window we will see if these verbal promises turn into physical promises

I’ve never seen a physical promise. Does it involve cutting yourself whilst taking an oath?

Can you draw one for me?

I'd like to know who would pay £12m for Brooks because I've got a bridge to sell them. And I'll chuck in some magic beans.

Over the moon that Wilder and co are staying, its being annoying having to constantly check news sources for updates and worrying if they were going to stay or not.

Hopefully all this means something positive has come from the ownership talks and we can now look forward to next season with a decent squad.

Today is a good day :)

All means nothing racist Ron was staying at ‘the best job in football’ at the sty before hilariously walking out on them on the eve of the 92/93 season.

Doesn't look like it will be today. He is in America . (Photo on Facebook

Thanks CBB - I’m just a bit curmudgeonly this morning - apologies to the OP

I'm truly thankful for this thread . Yeah its good we can finally put closure to all the wild speculation about Wilder but what a great word ' curmudgeonly ' is . I like it . I like it a lot . I'm going to use it myself :)

:p

What other way is there to put it. Its great at the moment. Im assuming to have budget promises. But come august 9th & all the business is done. We will see how they have walked the walk

Game on then. Was worried tbh about this preseason. Hopefully wilder gets his targets and we can have a good preseason.
