Wilder - Realistic Expectations

Aim for the stars and if you miss you'll still end up in the play-offs. (Sorry I'm still trying to clear the Adkins motivational management speak out of my system)

Reading both sets of fans views they expect a mid-table finish at best. Didn't know Bolton were now on former soil, their fans certainly dont give that impression.

Not sure on Boltons manager front, seen Guggs mentioned today (big gamble if true) but Charlton are making a huge balls up of appointing their new manager, not a well run club I'd expect to challenge.
I can see why both sets of fans are pessimistic. They look at us and Coventry and realise they could easily get trapped in L1.

Since Tufty has come in he hasn't put a foot wrong with what he has said or done. However the excitement that has been stirred by his no-bollocks approach inherently brings expectation which we need to be realistic about.

He has a huge task of bringing in 2/3's of a new squad in, under a constrained budget from previous Managers, gelling them together & also managing the dogshite he has inherited. I will not be surprised if things do not click as immediately as we fans would want or expect it to.

As long as we see something during the games to get us out of our seats (winning 50/50 challenges, still being fit enough to last the final 20 mins, players wanting the ball, high tempo etc) I will be happy.

What are your expectations next season?

I'm expecting automatic promotion from us, which is the only logical aim whilst we're in this Division. I personally want nothing to do with play-offs due to our inability to turn up for them !!

However, I'm realistic ( and sceptical ) enough to realise that this depends upon the "ambitious" Board actually "delivering the goods" and putting in place sufficient financial support to make Tufty's job do-able in terms of getting us promoted.

Do I think the Board will deliver their bit ............... well no ! I've seen no evidence so far to suggest that they will, but I'm ready & waiting to be proven wrong and if they do "deliver the goods" and Wilder is given a reasonable transfer budget plus a reasonable wages budget then I will be happy to say well done Board !

The signings so far have been positive, but we need to cull the transfer listed players asap which may not prove easy as I don't anticipate a frenzy of clubs chasing them. We then need to bring in around another 8 / 10 players of sufficient quality and ability, capable of being consistent at this level, to end our self-imposed exile in L1.

I'm not holding my breath but I remain ever hopeful in my 52nd year of supporting the R & W Wizards ( who weren't very wizardy for the last 3 years ) :(

I don't have "expectations", as a blade I've been conditioned to brace myself for a shit storm of a season.

I hope we get promoted though, I have a lot of faith in Wilder.

New manager, new players, we could be lucky and gell right from the start but thats asking a lot, so I don't exspect to see the team proper till after Xmas but if we can get it together from then on any thing can happen.......:)

Sounds like Slade is going to Charlton so nowt to worry about.

I demand to see progress compared to the previous manager, that's non negotiable.
I would expect playoffs at least.

Even if Wilder fails to gain promotion then as long as there is a list of postives then he gets another season.
So for me it's not "he must get promotion or he's sacked" because I think we should be giving our managers time.
The problem with Adkins is I couldn't see any postives and in fact he took us backwards and made us worse.

If we make the play offs it will have been a successful season from the zero base that he started at.

But we haven't got our full squad together yet so let's see what sort of side we have come August before we can make any real predictions.

Promotion. Sorry, I don't expect 'improvement' as a measure of progress. We have been shit too long, have 'improved' and fallen back.

The only measure of commitment and intent is to get the fuck out of this division via automatic and start building a team which will stay in a much better Championship.

Put it this way. It is impossible to fail to get into the play-offs in this division but still look like a half-decent team. Even the teams that do get into the play-offs usually look pretty dreadful, and the ones that fail have to be worse than that.

For that reason, I can't really imagine a scenario in which we miss out on the play-offs, but people still feel able to say that we look as if we're heading in the right direction. I suppose if we had an absolutely disastrous first half of the season, but then recovered and finished just outside the play-offs people might have hope for the following season, but then, if our start to the season's that bad, we'll probably sack Wilder by Christmas.

Play-offs are a minimum. Anything less and I think he'll go. If Adkins gets sacked for failing to turnaround somebody else's team with a couple of additions, Wilder can't survive missing out with a team which he built.

1st place is everything, anything else isn't good enough, even 2nd place and automatic promotion is a hollow victory

It's division three not the Champions League

Champions and 100 points...looking for a bookie to take my bet..no one wants it yet

We have to be looking to be champions like Charlton did after their big clear out. As it is I'm well impressed with Wilder so far but as we have seen before talk is cheap, I do think Wilder is a different animal to Clough and Adkins so i will be expecting nothing less than top six.

Is this the season . Like us all I hope so . No Devine right , unlucky and all that shit. . It's just down to hard work from day one .

If we aim for top 6 , we will fuck it up . It has to be position 1.

Automatic promotion league winners drilled in to the mental attitude of the players from day one . We all thought the Wigan chairman and manager were toss pots , 100 points my arse.

We need that winning , arrogant attitude and you have it when you know you are the best . You work for it and then deserve it .

if Chris can instill the team togetherness ethic and keep it fun for them can emulate 2011 , without getting a forward locked up when it mattered, so adding another 4 points

Promotion, unless there are exceptional circumstances beyond Wilder's control.

I would add that it's more likely we'll have a Wigan trajectory than be up at the top from the off.

I think with the wholesale changes that the play offs would be a good first season - Promotion will still be his goal though.
