Wilder OUT - megathread

I have waited a couple of days before returning to this thread given how angry I felt after Wednesday night. I can take going out to a lower league side in the cup, we did to Barnsley in the 92 points season but it mattered little in the overall scheme of things. We made 11 changes that night and did not take it seriously. and the performance was at odds to our league form. We then went on to have a good season before it all feel apart at the end. What was different on Wednesday was we were supposedly taking it seriously. All of that side have started league games this season so I do not buy that it was only a shadow squad. What we ended up seeing was us get outplayed by a league two side who looked stronger, fitter, and tactically and technically superior. We went back to a 4 4 2 system that has failed in every other game rather than try and build on the 5 3 2 that had some limited success on Sunday albeit only defensively. Not one performance this season has been acceptable overall. Is it all Wilders fault the state we are in, no. He does however share a large part of the responsibility. Yes he lost some key players and been unfortunate with injuries to others. However other clubs have also suffered in this respect. He has compounded the issue by the type of players he has brought in (slow unfit unathletic apart from Donnavon) and then played a style that does not try and get the best out of the squad he has ( a squad he has mainly brought in).

We need to move away from Wilder and probably sooner rather than later. What he has done previously is all well and good but he had his day and is not going to progress us going forward. I have maintained that I would keep him for now just because the clowns running the club would potentially make things worse. However if performances don't improve quickly than I would take the risk and change now because if we don't make no mistake this squad has relegation written all over it. It still needs more than a change in manager however if the club is going to progress. The whole structure needs changing and modernising. What we have at the moment is more 1980's than 2020's. There is no quick fix unfortunately and short term we have to make sure we are a competitive championship club. Whether that is more likely achieved by sticking with Wilder I am not so sure.

Completely agree. Someone mentioned in earlier post about hoping for a respectable season, announce that Chris Wilder would leave at the end of season and having a big send off with returning players and coaches. Maybe the ownership/leadership of the club can be cleared up between now and next pre season as well. Really hope that happens, would be a shame to see the fanbase turn on a fellow blade.

I know it's been mentioned before, but medium term (to long term), I think CW should remain at the club, doing the things he's highly credited for aside from the first team management. Could be a DoF role but the title doesn't really matter.

For me, he's still the man to set the overall standards at the club, and from an experience and personally point of view, I think he could really drive us forward. I just don't think he should be the first team manager for much more than another season or two, for no other reason than a gut feeling on my part.

I would definitely want him to play a large part of the recruitment process, when it comes to the next man in charge. I would trust his opinion and judgement in that regard.

That's if he wanted this sort of role, obviously.

I disagree the owners have ‘pulled’ anything, it’s a consequence of bottling promotion. Everything happening now can be traced back to bottling the last six games of the 24/25 season and throwing the game at Wembley.

For what it’s worth I totally disagree that the Wembley match was “thrown” but agree it accelerated our decline.

Fair enough mate. I think his overall experience and love the club make it a no brainer.

A director of footballs main responsibilities involve working with the scouting networks, heading up recruitment and setting the football philosophy of the club so that a head coach can concentrate on the day to day coaching.

Our football philosophy over recent seasons has been dreadful, as has the recruitment.

He would be a disaster DOF.

booker your a respected poster on here you cant tell me your happy watching the football united are playing this season and thats down to wilders boring tactics hes brought too many over 30s in for a start but if these players were told to move the ball faster and forward they would be doing it ive watched united for over 60 years and know that our fans wont stand for much more of these stale tactics as ive said previously i was a big fan of chris wilder in his first 2 spells at the club but not this time im sorry to say he failed at boro he failed at watford and hes failing this time at the lane i think he will be gone by the end of october

I appreciate the message mate. I decided to have a bit of a break from the Wilder debate yesterday because I'm a passionate guy and I didn't want to just be rude to someone who disagreed with me.

Im not going to repeat what I said before.

I appreciate your comment on style and tactics like others have said. I do see, like we all do, that the balance of the team is wrong. We do have about four defensive cm's. We have a lack of quality on the wings, a lack of pace. I expect Wilder can't say what he's like to because he'd be in an untenable situation. The more exciting forward players are always in demand though, certainly for the better ones.

Wilder knows the style is flow at times, he's not stupid or wants to play insipid football.

Some fans say he's not the same Wilder as before. Back in 2016 he inherited Billy Sharp, Chris Basham and Paul Coutts in league One. He signed some exceptional players for not much money. We built momentum. But that was 10 years ago. Transfer fees have gone through the roof now. It's easier bedding in younger players in League One like O'Connell.

To all those who think Wilder should go. We're all entitled to an opinion. I differ from that. We are all blades fans though and I think we need to remember that at times. Me included.

I personally believe we'll be mid table this season but next season push on. With Wilder.

Are you joking? We’ll lose both and he’ll be safe, as these owners are seemingly wedded to the idea of CW running everything in their absence. They’ve just given him a fat contract, that would need paying off and apparently they’ve no money.

A couple more shocking performances won’t make any difference as Fleetwood wasn’t a one off.

By my reckoning we’ve been poor against Cardiff, Norwich, Bolton, Swansea, Brum and Fleetwood.

We’ve played ten games now and been shit in most of them. Take away the above six and we’ve beaten a poor Blackburn team twice, Mansfield and just about matched Wolves (despite having less shots and a third of the possession).

Stoke will hammer us and Lincoln aren’t backing off anyone.

I think CW will be here all season.

thanks for the reply booker and i respect your opinion on chris wilder against the barrage against him on here BUT and it pains me to say this but i still disagree with you on this one i dont see any way wilder will be succesful this time round its not going to happen the club is going stale this supporters are apathetic and the football is slow and boring we need a new direction with a younger more progressive manager at the helm as always utb ftp
