I think binning Wilder would be a breathtakingly stupid thing to do. I was deeply suspicious of his second coming and didn't remain convinced right through last season's struggle and the previous season's end of campaign failure. We had a poorly assembled squad of pretty lightweight players and zero bite and shake.

This season we are even worse off and patently not going to tear any trees up. If you take the squad player-for-player we look very capable, but under Wilder we aren't. The thing that saves his bacon for me is that we have tried alternatives to him - Slav, Hecky, Selles - and really paid the price and right now, backstage, we are facing a gigantic existential crisis, possibly bigger for us than the pigs faced last year. No manager worth his salt would come to a club where the ownership was so structually damaged (thanks to their own incompetence) and funds to strengthen are never available.

There's a likelihood we might end up with minus twelve (or combinations of) a transfer embargo, or have the owners bankrupted out of existence with HRH chasing his £35m right through the club. I don't buy any of the soft soaping so called experts spoon onto this situation that the crap COH/1919 have bestowed on Sheffield United in that the court action won't touch the football club and is directed elsewhere. When it all boils down to it they are businessmen and not Bladesmen, and rather than go to jail they will break up and sell anything they can if the lawman comes knocking.

In the meantime all United can do is keep playing football. The fifteen million we have trousered from Brooks and Hamer to them is 'dosh', not 'transfer dosh', which is why we have that piss-weak statement (that we get every year) that we will be looking at loans and out-of-contracts rather than hard, solid purchases and why Anel is at Burnley now and Souttar won't be pulling on stripes this season. It was they who squandered last season's last parachute payment on AI slop and it was they who appointed a novice in place of Wilder, who had clearly fell out with them backstage in the close season over their daft 'plans'. I won't be at all surprised if they make attempts to fire-sale the club and we spend most of this season lurking in the lower third praying for some or other miraculous run or wins and draws to propel us into the outer regions of playoff hope. I mean, the utter preposterousness of us even playing in the top flight without a whole-squad change (we don't have one player - even Bamford, who is close to PL standard) or even the vain hope we would beat the curse and get promoted by the playoffs leaves me suspecting some need mental health treatment.

The bottom line is we are stuck in this division now, and won't be even close to thinking about better times and fulfilled ambitions until every current player is paid off, transferred and gone, WIlder isn't our manager any more and the soft-headed shower of deluded individuals have flogged us to someone with real money. And we all know, that isn't ever going to happen. We don't get that kind of fortune. Look at the hope and expectation when HRH came in on 5% with McCabe and then when he ousted him and took the lot. We were all imagining big purchases and us shooting upwards or even staying in the PL. But what happened?

We may as well dig in and plan for survival with our priority and objective set as not to be relegated, especially with a mediocre, underperforming squad and a manager who is just patching up leaks in the hull.
Fair post

But please don’t include Hecky in this - they should build a statue of him imo

Bit like blaming Don Givens whereas John Matthews gets a free pass even though he should have taken the penalty
spot on never forgiven mathews for 'disapearing' behind a cluster of players when that spot kick was awarded he was our penalty taker that season at least givens had the balls to step up to the plate

Says on wiki
Givens stepped up when no other Sheffield United player wanted to take the penalty.
Fair fucks to him ......
Just before my time but interesting none the less

Yes there is no need to change manager.

What we need though is our strikers to score.
We need our midfielders to create.

We screwed but we won’t go down with Wilder in charge.

We need him, more than he needs us. Fact. Anyone else in charge and I would be worried. Especially at this time
Just because you say it’s a fact doesn’t make it so.

What is a fact he was passed over for several jobs he applied for after losing his job last summer.

He won’t get another job at this level when he leaves us.

Funny how many people want us to open up with this squad 😂
I don’t want us to open up with this squad but you can’t hide from the fact that Wilder is a significant contributory factor as to why the squad is in the position it is. Cannon, Campbell, Bamford, Riedewald. Phillips, Arblaster, Peck, Seriki, Burrows, McCallum, Donovan. Doherty, Baptiste, Cooper & Davies were all players brought in by Wilder.

I've no idea how many Blades fans are alive and looking out for our results every week.
Pretty sure it's in the 100s of thousands.
I find it quite heartening there are only a few dozen who want the manager gone.
Don't get me wrong,if we could get a Prime time Mourinho,Klopp or Pep with billions of money for players I'd want him gone as well.

100’s of thousands 🤭

No better man to lead us
While he's here I am happy, Slav and Selles showed a frightening future
In Wilder I trust 😊
Slav was not given a chance he was conned into the job never got what he was promised, when he accepted the role ended up putting square pegs in round holes thrown under the bus. Selles was a complete cluster from the day before they gave him the job the strangest most stupid appointment ever

Few dozen?

You must not talk to many Blades.

People saying wilder is the man cause of the state of the club at the minute need to give their head a wobble.

Yes we are missing a few players in key positions but you’re acting like we have a terrible squad which is destined for relegation without the “messiah”.

Look at hull last season and what they achieved I strongly think we still have a better squad than them last season and this season and they’ve just beat Man U. Wonder what the difference is?

Just because wilder makes us look poor doesn’t mean the players we have are poor.

Mate. With the position they club is in at the moment we definitely need him.
Do we want him, is a different question
Look at all the foreign ones we have had. I know who I trust

Yeah. I was keen on someone new after our play off final loss, someone who was a level above who could take us up and help us stay up.

Obviously that wasn't what happened, and we have been in a downward spiral since.

We need stability and someone who can steady the ship in a time of turbulence, which is what Wilder can do.

With all the background chaos, no good manager is going to want to come here. If Wilder goes, the replacement will be another Selles.

Put this to bed.

I think he has run his race with Sheffield United. He has saved us many of a time, but football has moved on! Different tactics being used.

He has been a great servant for the club, but we need to move on from him now. I have a feeling that why Phil Jones has come into the coaching staff to naturally take over at the end of the season, but these first 2 games have been a disaster

Who are you to come out with a statement like that?
Where's your season ticket? Pigs north stand?
