Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but we used the limited funds we had. If you look at all the Premier League teams, you'll find that they all have expensive flops in their squads; not every signing can be a success, even with the best scouting systems.
- Ramsdale: Profit made.
- Berge: Decent financial return and a significant part of the promotion-winning team.
- McBurnie: Had a good first season and was a key part to the promotion team.
- Bogle & Lowe: Both repaid their value. Wilder recently mentioned that the combined deal was £5 million, and we sold Bogle for £8 million to Leeds, where he helped us achieve promotion.
- Mousset: Repaid the majority of his value in his first season.
- Osborn: A budget squad player who contributed to our promotion.
On the other hand,
Robinson, Freeman, Brewster, and
Burke can be considered expensive flops; he got those wrong.
In his first season with the majority of the players you've mentioned, we finished in the top ten. He has completely rebuilt two squads from scratch—the first one dominated League One, and this one is performing well so far.
I don’t believe that selling players for huge profits is always necessary, as long as they contribute to the club's success that outweighs their costs. I would estimate that there are over 20 players in this category that Wilder has signed.
I think our European and worldwide scouting needs significant improvement, but I trust Wilder’s judgment on players, despite the occasional mistake, and I would still want him involved in the decision-making process.
