I was seen last year as Wilder's biggest critic on here, but it may surprise people to know I still have a signed card by him stuck up on my wall.

Why? Because I can compartmentalize, he managed us brilliantly for the vast majority of his time here though last season he acted completely inappropriately and managed us dreadfully.

I can overlook that in the broader context of things and remember and appreciate the good times.

I would definitely put Bassett as one of our best managers but John Harris is up there. Wilder would be third. I have to say though, some of the best football I have ever seen was played by Wilders players, even though none of them was anyway near as talented as some of our past players.

Amazing if you beleive someone who acquired the club under the most dubious of court cases and has spent zero of his own money and still isn’t spending anything even after showing a profit!

I just wish we had a good chairman who could reach his wallet we would be like Aston Villa now.

Prince has 2 years to get us promoted or it’s one of the biggest failings in football history.
In what way was a dispute between two owners seeking a legal ruling on the terms of their Investors Share Agreement a dubious court case?

Sad right? I'd rather the prince than McCabe. You know, the bloke who'd sell dandruff if it had a going rate. Gone are the days of beattie flu.

11:40am on now

looking to get a new club
hes a better manager now
enjoyed the rest
I’m being judged on back of a relegation
waiting for a club to start season badly to create an opening for him
thinks people saw us as hard working, working class, get your hands dirty club
Looking at changing game, technology and systems
has been invites to watch some top clubs train
found PL experience draining with intensity of media

Not a single surprise really.

guess he didn't discuss poor scouting/purchasing of players..................no, thought not.

Still a legend though but hope at some points he holds his hands up to the errors made.

You can respect Chris and think he is the best manager we have ever had I do

You can also think he handled his self very poorly and threw the toys out the pram when the going got tough

It’s a shame really because he should still be in charge of us now this team is still his team it’s his signings and it’s his club

We’d piss the league with a fully onit wilder which I find the biggest shame

He left for what ? Because his ego wouldn’t allow the prince to have a hand in transfers

I think Chris will deeply regret how he acted and I think his interview is him trying to repair his image of him throwing the toys out

100%

If we are talking about best managers lets include the guys from way back (can't be arsed to look their names up at the moment, too busy) who actually won our only trophies (1 League title, 4 FA Cups).

Wilder doesn't come close to John Harris or Dave Basset who both built teams and kept us in the top division a lot longer than Wilder did and all on zero money. The only other manager to have similar levels of backing was Howard Kendall for a short period until Charles Green got started. Wilder comes in at #3 for me a great four years but ultimately he spoilt it, he lost some respect when he called the players league one standard after the Leicester defeat, I don't think the players played for him after that. Then he starts on the fans labelling them playstation managers, when a manager openly has a go at the fans you know his time is running down. Next he openly has little digs at the owners and quits three times before it is accepted. Chris ruined his four year of greatness in one season of shit in which he blamed everyone but himself. I find it all rather sad but Chris had a track record of giving club owners ultimatums which might work in lower leagues and lower budgets but not at the top level. His way or no way but someone finally called him out.

Is it April 1st?

Good luck to him - I hope he does well. I'd be very interested to see where he goes next - it's a fine balance between what he wants i.e. a Prem or top Champ club, and the type of club that would offer him the role. Unless something changes, the centre of that particular Venn diagram probably involves about 5-6 clubs.

As and when he does get another role, I wonder whether he'll aim to recruit any of the other backroom staff at Utd including Paul Mitchell. AK and Mark Prestridge are pretty much givens although both have obviously already gone.

It's unbelievable the lack of respect some people give Chris on here, he is the club's greatest ever manager and probably always will be. People seem to forget he dragged the club out of near irrelevance to the point where 352 with overlapping CBS is now pretty much trademarked to him.

Deserves a statue at the lane!
Not sure of a statue but certainly owe him a big thank you. 100% does not deserve the lashings he gets. Chris Wilder I thank you, Blades since 1965.

You say Basset etc did it with no money

But can flip it and say CW brought more money into this club in 2 years than all the other manages combined together.

We are looking for 40m for Ramsdale as per Reports….. 35m for Berge.

This isn’t the sufc I know! Crazy how far we have come.

As much as I moan about last season and the way Wilder was in that ‘break up period’. I’d love nothing better than him to still be in charge leading us back up.

Time to move on though, he’ll be a success again in the not too distant future no doubt. We’ll possibly see him at the Lane this season in the opposing dugout.

Slavs the man now hopefully to take us forward again.

Wilder presided over one of the best periods I've witnessed, dragging the club from mid table league one to at one point genuinely challenging for European football and for that season, we lived a bit of a dream. Could Sheffield United actually become an established top level team, challenging for trophies, European football, signing top players and being what we always had the potential to become?

What sullied his reputation is how we were on the brink of doing something really great and instead of maintaining ourselves at the top level, under his stewardship, it went hideously wrong. The reaction from Wilder to the results was what tarnished his reputation for me from his tactical stubbornness, poor signings, publicly slagging off the owners, chippiness towards the media and the fans ("playstation managers") and never once did he front up and accept responsibility, instead pointing the finger elsewhere.

IF last season had resulted in a finish of somewhere between 11th and 15th, it would have been hailed a success and would have been somewhere around what we'd have realistically expected but to have come up so short the second time round was what I struggle to accept.

Slav knows what it takes in this division, took Fulham and Watford up and once he's got some of his own players in place, we can hopefully start looking up the table again.

CW might have been the greatest Manager we have ever had but like it or lump it he was involved in one of the greatest disasters the club has experienced. When it came to it he got out as he had run out of ideas.

Chris Wilder saying "F**K me I cant take any more of this sh*t" surprised its not been made into a MEME or GIF by now.

LOL

Problem is Slav hasnt got the same backroom staff he had at Fulham and Watford so that benchmark is not really something you can count on.

Whilst Wilder was undoubtedly a superb manager for us what also needs to be considered is he was also in charge for what will go down in the record books as one of the worse seasons in the clubs history and he was also in charge when we were knocked out of the FA Cup at home to a non league side for the first time in our history.

I did a comparison a couple of years about the money that Bassett, Warnock and Wilder spent in the summer following promotion to the top flight. Adjusted for 'football inflation', it was actually fairly comparable across the board. Wilder probably spent more in the second summer though.

Yeah, well I’d put your tissues away until they’ve actually been sold for A combined £75m…

In the meantime, I think in the name of balance, you need to factor in the current net value of Rian Brewster, Ollie McBurnie, Lys Mousett, Luke Freeman and Ollie Burke before you start lauding the financial returns due the club as a result of Chris Wilders transfer dealings.

Bassett bought Brian Deane for £25,000 sold him for £2.9m, Wilder paid a combined fee in the region of £40m for Ramsdale and Berge hardly intuitive speculation on his part.

Don’t get me wrong Wilder was a brilliant manager and during his tenure I think we played probably the best football I’ve ever seen from a United side in 50 years, but his transfer dealings were generally….3/10 at best

Thinking about it, that's probably the fairer area of debate.

Bassett had 2x promotions (back to back), 4 seasons in the top flight & 9th place finish. 1x FA Cup semi & 1x FA Cup Quarter. I think we also beat everyone except Arsenal at BDTBL.

Warnock had 1x promotion, 1 season in the top flight, 1x FA Cup semi, 1x FA Cup Quarter & 1x League Cup Semi & Play-Off Final.

Wilder had 2x promotions, 1 1/2 seasons in top flight, 1x FA Cup Quarters and a 9th place finish.

Both Bassett and Warnock did it on a lot less money, and both probably made transfer profits during their time overall. Although people will have their own views on the playing styles in which they did it.

It's probably a generational thing, but I 'felt it' more under Bassett.
I loved Bassett but he joined us when we were in Division 2 and left us in Division 2, in an era when there was no Sky money and no champions league income for the top four. The wage gap between the two divisions then isn’t comparable with now. Bassett was well and truly stitched up by the board though. So it’s a difficult comparison.

With Wilder, whilst he spent more money than any other manager before us, that’s hardly surprising given the increase in finances in the PL in the twelve years we were out of it. He could have spent half of what he did and it would still have been more than anyone else. What is important is that, relative to the other PL clubs, he didn’t spend that much, just the PL money. Just like with Warnock, we went down with one of the smallest wage bills in the league.

Good luck to him. Clearly broke him last year and glad he's back on track. Awful season, totally bizarre in many ways and we were never, ever the same as soon as fans left the stadium. Glad he's taken responsibility for relegation, never doubted he would though tbh. Won't ruin his legacy for me as one of the best we've ever had, and good times I'll never forget.

Think he'll be a great manager for whoever he ends up at.

Chris Wilder is then by far the greatest manager in the history of management (not just football EVER)

Imagine getting a team from league one to 9th in the PL with 3/10 on transfer dealings.

From a squad that worth £0 5 years ago to now we are turnings down bids from Arsenal for 2 of our players!

All whilst you rate him 3/10 in transfer dealings.

I think the guy gave him 3/10 because all the other multi million pound transfers flopped

Hysterical how much people's opinions of Wilder have been warped, 3/10 ffs 😂
