waiting for a club to start season badly to create an opening for him![]()
No way is that only what people remember- everybody with half a brain knows he gave us the best 4 years ever- he is top of the pile- Better than John harris/ Better than Neil Warnock/ better than Dave Basset. What planet are you on he took a team from mid-table league one finish to 9th in the premier league on the lowest budget in every league bar league one
Only a bad 6 months ended that which unfortunately for CW is only what people remember
rightoNo he left the responsibility to the staff who remained at the club.
It's unbelievable the lack of respect some people give Chris on here, he is the club's greatest ever manager and probably always will be. People seem to forget he dragged the club out of near irrelevance to the point where 352 with overlapping CBS is now pretty much trademarked to him.
Deserves a statue at the lane!
Mutual. Very very much mutual departure.No. He left. Through the back door.. after claiming he'd never do such a thing.
I mean that’s what other people / club owners looking to employ him which is why he hasn’t got a jobNo way is that only what people remember- everybody with half a brain knows he gave us the best 4 years ever- he is top of the pile- Better than John harris/ Better than Neil Warnock/ better than Dave Basset.
Without fail - he was the best ever, not even debatable.
Mutal to me means a mutual agreement regards employment. Making a scene like a 5 year old child because things aren't working out, pointing the finger at those who've backed and supported you and acting like a manbaby because you've wasted millions on shite doesn't sound very mutual. I'll settle and agree that wilder loaded the gun and added the pressure for the trigger to be pulled.Mutual. Very very much mutual departure.
Not sacked, not just a resignation. If anything he left via the side door.
Not sure why people think if you resign that's the back door either? If you don't see eye to eye with your employer and there seems to be no way forward what do you do. Sit it out and wait to be sacked?
I don't think he took it lightly leaving, he looked like he was carrying the weight of the world last season as it went on too.
It is good to see some respect towards Wilder. Some of the comments about him in the last 12 months have needed putting in context: he gave us the most enjoyable 4 years of football at the Lane in my lifetime. I started going in 1953, and saw Hagen, Joe Shaw, Currie, Deano (Brian), etc. with excellent managers such as John Harris, Basset, etc. In my view (and it is an opinion others will view differently), 2016-20 were my best 4 years of following the Blades. And we old-timers generally look at the past with rose-coloured specs. Wilder created, from the depths of the 3rd tier, something unique, gave us a unity and passion for the club, which was truly special. It all went wrong, and different reasons can be found to explain it all, but I have found it astonishing that a significant number of Blades appear to have forgotten what he achieved: took us from stagnation to the top half of the PL in an astonishingly short space of time, provided the most memorable of experiences (Bouncing Day, promotion celebration, etc.), gave us the belief that we could compete at the top level, and that we could begin to look at a stable future. Whatever went wrong (pandemic, poor signings, divided ownership, tactical inflexibility, etc.) can be debated at length, but none of us should forget the magnificent 4 years he gave us all. Remarkable. It's unbelievable the lack of respect some people give Chris on here, he is the club's greatest ever manager and probably always will be. People seem to forget he dragged the club out of near irrelevance to the point where 352 with overlapping CBS is now pretty much trademarked to him.

You can definitely compare Bassett and Wilder in terms of the team spirit both managers created and Bassett did keep us in the top division for twice as long... but the football we played under Wilder for the first 4 seasons, on a shoe-string budget, was the best I've ever seen as a United fan! We had just as much success under Bassett but the football was pretty terrible at times (although very effective) and was definitely verging on hoofball. That's why Wilder wins for me.He definitely is one of our greatest managers, but he's not better than Dave Bassett who kept us in the top division for 4 years!

I know this was aimed at Fallowfield but it's an interesting question. I don't think there's many poor managers; Wilder would be in the bottom 25% for me (excluding those who haven't managed at PL level before).Who do you think are the crap managers in the PL?
I liked CW and had time for him but come on he had a head like a 50 bob cabbage, as for greatest manager ever I take it you're not old enough to remember a certain Mr John Harris? It's unbelievable the lack of respect some people give Chris on here, he is the club's greatest ever manager and probably always will be. Sorry mate but Bassett wins for me the man was genius, okay he had us playing "kick & run" but his teams never tired, never stopped they'd run through walls for him. You could argue at start CW's team would do it but he lost dressing room and respect of players & fans, CW's ride was expensive & at times ill judged, whereas DB's was just a roller-coaster of fun.You can definitely compare Bassett and Wilder in terms of the team spirit both managers created and Bassett did keep us in the top division for twice as long... but the football we played under Wilder for the first 4 seasons, on a shoe-string budget, was the best I've ever seen as a United fan! Bassett yes.On any fair scoring matrix you can devise, taking into account league & cups, both Bassett and Warnock score higher than Wilder.
How do you work that out when he offered to quit 3 times?Didn't quit, he was sacked

I believe him. And I'd go as far to say there's others that do too. Put two and two together, wilder insulted all the team "championship players" he insulted the board, insulted all of us fans "playstation managers"Because no one actually believes the Prince.
Bassett yes.
Warnock not necessarily. He took 6 and a half seasons to do what Wilder did twice in 3 years. Plus Wilder kept us up one year.

Love him for what he did, think he's a cockend for how he acted.
Thinking about it, that's probably the area of debate.
Bassett had 2x promotions (back to back), 4 seasons in the top flight & 9th place finish. 1x FA Cup semi & 1x FA Cup Quarter. I think we also beat everyone except Arsenal at BDTBL.
Warnock had 1x promotion, 1 season in the top flight, 1x FA Cup semi, 1x FA Cup Quarter & 1x League Cup Semi & Play-Off Final.
Wilder had 2x promotions, 1 1/2 seasons in top flight, 2x FA Cup Quarters and a 9th place finish.
Both Bassett and Warnock did it on a lot less money, and both probably made transfer profits during their time. Although people will have their own views on the playing styles in which they did it.
Yes expensive, Mousset 10m, Brewster 23m, McBurnie 17m out of those 3, I can still see Brewster & McBurnie delivering, as for Mousset I'm 40 years older on way out and still fitter than him., Expensive ?
Look at the money the man brought into this club and what was spent. The Prince used the money CW earnt to acquire the ground etc for £50m if I was the Prince I would be wearing CW pyjamas for the money he has earnt him.
