One

Brought in under wilder

He should know and have enough to eek out some points

However, you can’t replace a chocolate hob nob with a rich tea and expect the same experience which is what we did with Souza

JT should be an adequate replace for Anel at this level but wilders playing him out of position

Arguably better, based on the number of points achieved in a championship season. He was working with different players with a different formation.

Wilder did his best work in convincing his followers that he will always be the best man for the SUFC job.

'Arguably' his very best work.

Ignoring Cannon, I think those players aren't really and issue.

The big difference last season is we had Souza and also our loan signings were at least players we could name and be confident in.

Souttar (excellent until injured)
JRS blew hot and cold, but we had him and brooks to bounce between and his contributions on paper were good
Gilchrist- reliable
Choudrey- good
Clarke (would have been ok if not injured)
BBD- on paper a good loan signing
Holding- not fit but really good CB for off the bench

If we could add these names into this seasons squad, we probably would all be a lot happier.

The key now is at the back where we're gifting goals due a lack of cohesion and people dropping bollocks all the time. We got rid of Robinson who was a walking error most games and replaced him like for like with a load of others who take it in turns to get caught out.

Tanganga is going for balls that aren't his to go for, McGuinness isn't nearly as dominant as we'd hoped and Mee does his best but isn't quick enough to recover if he or someone else is out of position. Add to that the general incompetence of Bindon and Godfrey who are so crap that they can't get into the side. We don't have an out and out right back, yet last season we had about 5 of varying ability.

We're our own worst enemies when if we could manage a game better, we'd have won at Preston comfortably, should have had a point at Hull and probably one last night as well.

Key things for me that have caused the mess we're in initially stem back to last season - some of which is on Wilder but not all:
  • Souttar's injury and lack of an adequate replacement. If he was fit or we had someone equivalent, we might have squeaked into the autos. A one or two goal lead with him at the back meant we could play holding pattern football in third gear without really having to try. Problem was that we tried to do it with Robinson there instead....
  • Spending what money we had on Cannon instead of a decent, fit centre half. Less Cannon, more peashooter.
  • Sacking Wilder and replacing him with Selles. I agreed at the time that the Wilder era may have been at its end but didn't bargain for what we got instead.
  • Not backing Selles earlier and ending up with a squad full of shite after he'd complained about a lack of activity.
  • Selles' tactical lunacy.
  • The quality of loanees from this season to last is like chalk and cheese.
  • Wilder having to come back and pick up somebody else's mess.

What was needed instead was a bit of continuity, half a dozen decent signings and some loanees to complement. Not drawing names from a hat and signing whoever was available.
