One season left on his deal, the time to get rid is probably in the past mainly due to not getting relegated and saving some face by winning 3 of the last 6. As a board they really need to be looking to 27/28 as to how that looks. Conversations need to be had with Wilder as to his intentions as he will be 60 in that year, does he still have the passion to continue (I know that is not exactly old but some might want to call it a day) if he is in it to continue then we have the dilemma of how much longer do we give for results. The other dilemma is how and who do we replace him with, although a top 8 would be ideal, realistically based on the teams that are going to be in the mix, it will be a tough ask to be up there. It might be a year of lowering expectations and consolidating in the Championship a bit, building some foundations off the pitch (literally in the Dore project) and stabilising the club for a push to improve over the next 5 years.
