Why is Leon Clarke unsubable?

The best view isn't on a TV screen. It never has been. When Donaldson came on against QPR, Wilder was going mad with him for not covering back, He kept telling him what to do. You don't see that on a tv. Nor do you see other players reactions to failed passes etc.

You've decided it's money related. I'd say it's a lean spell, which all strikers suffer. Wilder sees him as an important part of his team. You want to "fuck him off". Surely you can see why your view isn't universally popular?

I don't care, it's my view therefore important to me. And saying watching live TV for 90 minutes with umpteen angles for every kick (and replays to back it up) isn't the best view is quite frankly a joke.

The fact that this led to our manager assessing that particular performance as outstanding, along with the seemingly undroppable status, which is at the core of the thread, has me increasingly concerned.

Then the issue should have moved onto Wilder then?

Well if you were at the QPR game in the flesh then the jury is still out on your football knowledge, live or not.

And it's clearly not every kick or a replay for everything. Are you saying they reviewed every hoof to Clarke or Sharp, replayed them? Of course not. You get the view the producer wants for replays. You certainly can't scan all the pitch. That's why managers go to watch players live.

Kerching.

Biases aside, which I would refute till my dying breath, it’s baffling and bizarre, and getting back on point, the OP raises a more than interesting question.

Albeit one I raised many moons ago. As you well know ;)

But never criticise him to the extent you do his pet. As this thread shows.

Besides, your tv clearly didn't show Basham and Flecks poor performances. Maybe the tubes gone?

Clarke has been wank for the past 6 weeks, can't score lazy moody attitude. If you can't see that take off the red and white spectacles. And i disagree 100% about tv views, to suggest the producer somehow changes reality is somewhat ridiculous.

Then we clearly see things very differently.

Been playing the same record for months, and Wilder and Knill have been at the very core of my critique.

The consistent selection, lack of hooking off and bizarre awarding of the armband have obviously gone unnoticed.

I’ve bored myself with the consistency of my observations.

Maybe Holloway is right !

Genuine question. He's been poor for atleast 6 weeks and scored, What? Once in 2018??

I can't comment on last night as i only watched the first half. However, as a general statement, I think at times when we've been in games (Wednesday at home for example) you have to ask whether the team gets enough out of him.

There are games where his contribution is self sacrificing and you keep him on because he's allowing other players to come into the game, this has happened in games for Billy over the two couple of seasons. He's had to pull players out and create space to allow others to get into that space. In many games though when the Wing backs aren't getting much movement ahead of them or the central players aren't finding the passes to the strikers, you have to look at what we have up front. Players like Wilson, Ched, Brooks all have the ability to take defenders out and worry them in a different way, with pace, movement and creativity. This is sometimes what we need.

Top class performance from Leon.He dominated his centre back all night and linked well with Sharp. He was the second best player on the pitch behind Dicko. Some people would do well to rewatch the game, and maybe go into games with no prejudices. He did tire in the last 20mins, but that is to be expected. The main issues were passing the ball from defence to midfield; service from out wide, ball retention, and our back three being dominated by Dicko - which allowed them to get up the pitch. There's only so much you can do as a striker.A Leon and Dicko partnership would destroy this league on that evidence.

Which ones haven’t played?

They have all had 10 mins here, 10 mins there. Clarke gets 90 mins week in week out. Wilder usually pulls players off if they're not doing well. Sharp rarely gets 90 mins. He dropped Blackman earlier in the season, he dropped Ebanks Landell for example last season, he's usually spot on with it and recognises this.

Back to my initial question, Why is Clarke unsubbable? He has played 8 games in 2018 and played every minute, are you telling me that he has played well enough in every one of those games to stay on the pitch? You questioned "who would come on"... Sharp was an unused sub against Wolves, Villa and Wednesday.

Thanks for your contribution, it really added to the debate. Just to follow on: if people were commenting on his previous too months performances they'd have been more accurate. The trick of judging a player is to completely isolate the game in question and comment thereon.Try and do it emotionless (rewatching games helps with this).Leon was better last night than he's been for months.

Exactly, so freshen things up. This is what I'm getting at. A tired Clarke (or any player for that) is not helping the team play at 100%

I can't disagree with this, although I feel that no Brooks, Holmes or Duffy had a bigger effect.I think that Sharp played quite well but I'd have preferred a pacy option from the start (Donaldson).

Clarke before new contract unplayable, signs new contract back to journeyman donkey. Fuck him off.
It won’t have anything to do with his new contract though, he got offered almost double his wages at Villa and turned it down, that shows how committed he was to us Blades. He definitely needs dropping for a game or two though, which should’ve happened weeks ago to freshen him up for the run in, I don’t know what Wilder is thinking regards this.

Missed him last night, the Don was poor.
Hope he's back soon.

Facts aren't welcome. They do no one any good!

Why is Clarke unsubable?

Last night shows why.
Don't agree, Donaldson is absolute garbage but Clarke has not been much better for a while now.

The result would have been no different with Clarke playing. Brooks should start playing off Sharp on Saturday, neither Clarke or Donaldson deserve the shirt.

The result may or may not have been different but I believe we'd have had a better outlet up top, even with an off form Clarke, which would have helped overall.
P.S- I don't think the Don is 'absolute garbage' either.

All abaht opinions. :)

The same argument for dropping Leon could easily be applied to Billy on last nights performance. Didn't play that well again.

I don't think the Don is garbage, but he looks like he needs a goal right now and the chance he missed last night wasn't as easy as some might think it was, given it had to be a first time shot and the angle was against him. If he'd finished that off it would have been a quality finish. He cost us 50,000 and he's 33 now, he's not the player he was in his pomp for Brentford and has still scored some crucial goals this season. Fulham's spending power shows us what we're up against and yet Billy and Leon in particular are among the top scorers in this league. If we make the play oifs it'll be amazing. I hope Fulham get second as they are a cut above right now, as good as Wolves. Villa are beatable, as are Cardiff and again they've spent some huge money, particularly Villa.

Once Wilson is fit, I'd like to see him with Brooks & Duffy behind...

Let's try to get some pace and mobility. Whatever combination we have used recently has been static and good defenders are coping quite easily with whatever combination of Sharp/Clarke/Donaldson we put out.

Leon’s not in the squad tomorrow anyway. Been seen out on abbeydale road tonight.
