Why Is He Praising

Not that I’m particularly bothered by that but there used to be a time where I’d look forward to what Wilder had to say on certain things. I’d reserve opinion on how a match went until I’d heard Wilder’s view on how it went. Those days feel a long time ago. He constantly seems to have a chip on his shoulder about something, whether it’s how a game is perceived to have gone (often) or how he’s perceived as a manager (always).

Just telling it like it is, I thought that's what we all loved?
That is not how it is. Before Leeds we were unbeaten but he drilled a message and set up like we couldn’t beat them. so, he played to contain and defend and hoped for a point. Instead of taking the game to them

Leeds were the better team. He’s not wrong.

Boro are a good team. He’s not wrong.

Christ, any reason to cry on here, people will take it!
The issue isn't in acknowledging that Leeds and Boro are good sides at this level. The issue is the selection against Leeds which effectively waved the white flag before kick off and the fear that we'll do the same tonight.

Its hardly surprising when you have a fanbase waiting to stick the knife in. Look at it on here since we lost. Can't be a comfortable position to be in, can it.

It's natural when being attacked/ constantly under the threat of being attacked, to be defensive.

Quite right

He's really, really got me on board. The Hull game was the one where I thought 'yeah, he gets it'

2 or 3 more lineups and performances like that against the 'better sides' and I'm checked out again.

It wasn't natural for 9 successful games.
Then he suddenly
Changed the shape
Changed the personnel
It wasn't the loss to Leeds that's upset everyone
It's the manner of the defeat

In other managers it would be mind games, an opportunity to tell the media "xxxx" is fantastic and all the players are Premier League quality waiting to happen.
As that breeds complacency, which allows assumption they are too good and so draws / defeats follow. Defeats can then spiral into a bad run. All the time he's working on the mindsets of his own team to be ready as the slip ups are coming. Also, no one complains when you say they are quality, so no "journeymen" quote on the dressing room wall...

Any reason to cry? On here, you say? Do you have any other examples which may add weight to this accusation?

Needs to stop calling us Punters first , ok i help pay Wilders wages , but i am not a f`kin kerb crawler.

Ahh. No further questions, your honour. So rests the case for the prosecution, m'lud.

Nothing to get upset about.

Oh yes it is.

Panto season yet :D

The pressure has been building for weeks within the Wilder out posse, whilever we have been winning/drawing it's been really hard for them to take.
As soon as points are dropped all that built up angst can be released.

After all no team of our stature ever loses a game.. (unless in the PL of course)

For those 9 games, he was the manager. Put the team together. Put the tactics together (including a brand new system).

But because he didn't come out and publicly flog himself after checks notes ONE GAME (against the best team in the league IMO), fans can't seem to get over themselves.

The lead up was hardly ideal either, to put it mildly.

I don't like how we played against Leeds, and I don't think we should have changed the system, btw. I just think we should support the team until we have real reasons not to. After the first 10 games, they ALL deserve our support, considering where we were at one point this summer.

Being disappointed with a performance and thinking the manager got it wrong, are both viewpoints I understand. But then we get into the world of "red flags", "2021 Wilder", etc, etc, etc and you see how weak the support base is and so does explain the defensiveness.

As Wilder has said , it's how we react to last Friday" which is important.
Hopefully he'll include himself in the "we" and be a bit more positive.
The players could also be a bit sharper.
For the record , I'm not a 'Wilder out'.
I've been very impressed with what he's done so far this season in terms of recruitment & setup , which is why I couldn't agree with the dramatic changes at Leeds. However , the manner of his departure in 2021 will take some forgetting.
He has a very difficult task tonight because of the absence of in-form Souza (my MoTM v Leeds). Not only for his tenacious tackling but also his useful height & physique - there is no equivalent replacement.
I fear he will keep the 532 but whatever he does I hope either JRS or Brooks can be included to give us some hope of relieving our defence by attacking.

Not sure what’s got into him, it’s like a defence mechanism for any game he doesn’t expect to win…the Leeds comments were embarrassing at best…hope he doesn’t say something similar against ‘them’….
I think the majority on here are of the same opinion; Leeds are nothing special and Boro have just lost at home to Bristol City

The few minutes I heard consisted of him talking about his favourite subject, 'himself' and his time at Boro with the standard "I thought we were turning it around" before Gibson pulled the trigger after ten games. His press conferences are dull at best.

If we are as fucking boring tonight as we were against what I thought was one of the more average Leeds teams of recent seasons last week then he can fuck right off. I don't mind seeing us lose occasionally if we are well beaten but any complete lack of any sort of attacking intent is inexcusable given the creativity we have.

Carrick is being really positive and predicting that "someone is going to get a hiding" against his team soon. That's what I'd like to hear as a supporter but I genuinely don't see us giving anyone a thrashing with the way we are playing. Not a bad start results-wise I know but Wilder needs to liven himself up before it seeps into the players and we hit a dip in my opinion.

utb

boro arnt that good an average brizzle side beat em comfortably there last saturday just go for it going set up for a point very rarely works as proved at elland road

Boro are a top half team, who can beat or lose to anyone on their day.

I don't have any issue with Wilder saying nice things about them, given they're a good club with good fans and he used to manage them. Be disrespectful to not be polite.

Didn't someone on here constantly used to go on about 'cap doffing' as part of some small time sheffield inferiority complex?

Wilder is embodying that critique perfectly

Three cheers for Ramirez......

Carrick has said exactly the same about us.
Can you imagine if a manager was asked, “So what’s your assessment of this week’s opposition?”

Manager: “They’re shit this lot. Reckon we’ll bang about 5 or 6 in. Absolute turd - I’m gonna send a few under 21s in just for a laugh.”

It’s be funny, but it never happens.
‘They’re a good side - they’ve got talented players - they’ve DONE WELL / MAYBE NOT GOT GREAT RESULTS (delete as appropriate) in recent weeks so we’ll have to be at our best. Every team in this division …’
Every manager says the same every week. It’s the most pointless question and answer session imaginable.

Any excessive comments about the opponents are just pointless bollocks. In terms of mind games, there's nothing to be gained. Who pays any attention to any of it? Just be honest. Apart from lying about the odd injury maybe, as with Arblaster the other week. Other than that, there's no serious advantage to be gained but you can diminish your standing with your own supporters if you spew too much crap
