Why didnt we bring Mcburnie back?

McBurnie is doing better at Hull because he’s available to play. Nothing more than that.
My key criticism of McB is that his availability when he was our player was shocking.
It’s got absolutely nothing to do with coaching.
In your opinion. I'll stick to mine and that is that he's being asked to play a similar role to the one he played at Swansea with more movement and freedom, not as a brainless battering ram up front, continuously looking for a fight with an opposition centre back.

You forgetting he scored 15 goals the season we went up with hecky and linked up well with ndiaye.

Or that he got 6 in 21 apps the following relegation season. He showed he was a good player before he left.
No, my criticism was directed at much more at Wilder's coaching of him rather than the player himself.

I don't, and never have believed that he's a stand out player though, to be fair.

Those of us who appreciate figures in Sheffield United's history who've done well for the club are in a cult, eh? Better than being unable to appreciate those figures, and being one letter away from 'cult'.
Believe what you want, I don't care. I have my opinion and a lot of Blades agree with it.

Why not just call me a 'cunt' rather than just play around with the words in a pathetic attempt to sound a little more intelligent than you really are? Another keyboard warrior' who wouldn't have the bollocks to say it in person, no doubt.

Overall his was poor for us for what he cost.
Not enough goals, too many injuries, suspensions and incidents away from the club. I was glad to see the back of him.
However the year in Spain seems to have done him good (interesting that he left after 1 year of a 3 year contract though?)
Hull seen to have got the best ever version of him.

His goals were vital to our promotion in 2022-23. That alone is worth what we paid for him.

Yep, to be fair that was the reason. Easy to see why he said no thanks.

Similar to Moore for me in that they both play well in certain systems. The Hull version of McBurnie is closer to the version of the one we thought we were buying.

I also think Moore would have been more productive under someone like Warnock
Fair assessment

Yep ordinary. He's a plodder that can clear corners from his own box. Do you think he's a better forward than Bamford?

I think Bamford is probably a better player, but that does not make McBurnie a bad player and does not mean he was a waste of money.

At no point have I suggested he was a waste of money.

He was poor for a period but he scored 15 goals in the Hecky promotion season. A 15 goal a season striker is very valuable.

His lack of fitness at The Blades was a massive issue, the fact that Hull have managed to keep him fit perhaps says more about how rubbish our conditioning is as a club. Egan also staying fit this season.
He spent weeks out this season, a few months ago .

Has everyone memory holed the Kop chanting “McBurnie scores, we’re the pitch”? He was consistently awful for us with the exception of one season where he was playing in a team with N’Diaye, McAtee, Berge, Doyle & Bogle as creative players - do you have any idea how bad you’d have to be to not get at a dozen goals with that creative talent supplying you?

He rinsed us for millions, spent most of the time injured or suspended, and pissed off to Spain rather than show any loyalty to Wilder. Then the cheeky bastard asked to train with us while he found himself a club that would pay him more than we were offering, no wonder Selles told him to get fucked.

Fuck im.

As we have said often enough there are issues at the club with regards to the fitness of players. Too many with persistent injury issues, niggles etc and its not even with players that have had a bad history with injuries either.

Getting a bit sick of Wilder and even Hecky when he was here banging on about player fitness yet seemingly not doing much about it. If the background staff at the club are not doing enough to keep players fit then they need to be replaced. It damages the clubs future prospects and it damages a players career as well.

He's got 4 so far at Hull, including 1 today and Lundstram scored for them. Egan scored last week for them as well. They've got our Spine and we got their Spain (manager) Bring Mcburnie back please Chris. Break the bank for him, Lundstram and Egan. 40 million should do it.
Areight Oli. I thought tha handle was Bladesballer?

Yes, if there's anything you sound like, it's someone who doesn't care. 🙄

There's also the must-win 6-pointer vs Burnley in Premier when he downed tools at 2-0 and got himself sent off. Probably only the 2nd time in my 40 years of following the Blades where I've thought "he wanted to be sent off"

If the through ball to him had been better he wouldn't have to resort to acrobatics and ended up with a brace.

Three weeks ago me n him face to face .. 'Oli, as a Blade, id like to say, thanks for the memories' the fucker grabbed my hand and gave me a big bear hug... he did smell lovely mind.

I dont get the dislike/hatred towards him.. hes proven at swansea and at hull that when played to his strengths what an asset he is..

Had we re-signed him in the close season hed have been our best defender n all

My biggest issue with him was availability
He’s proven this season what he can do in a full set of games. He was never available enough for sustained periods for us.

Bit surprising he's not in the Scotland squad after the season he had. Feels like a player with his profile could be very useful in a tournament, especially when he's in form.

The same peoples that want McBurnie back moan when we buy British, moan that Wilder wants culture carriers, moan about Wilder wasting money, moan about how bad our strikers have been since Sharp..

I wasn't a huge McBurnie fan when and understood when we let him go.

When I first heard that we'd rejected his offer of training with the club around July last year, I was understanding in that Selles had a way of playing that McB wouldn't fit into. Okay, but it still felt like a good calibre striker available on a free transfer was missed.

Come August 31st 2025 we panic signed Danny Ings along with a load of other dross. It was clear to me then that our recruitment staff & Selles were incompetent and we had squandered a summer transfer window.

However, maybe he needed that Hull move? To be the leading man in a new environment. The move has worked out well for club and player and I was chuffed for him yesterday.

There lies the problem, player management. Fitness, conditioning, attitudes to the overall game.
This season it has been glaringly obvious.
It needs to change.

McBurnie himself has said multiple times that he's a different and better player now, and that he wasn't ready for the responsibility United gave him. He's much fitter, stronger and takes much better care of his body now.
Wilder had him lined up to sign ! They sacked him and Sellers showed what a fool he was turning Mcbernie down so Hull got the benefit
I think Wilder will have had another drink ( piss up )on the back of how this season panned out with Mcbernie being decisive in Hulls promotion.
The owners ow us one will they coff up? Doubtful.

If you are implying that it’s all down to the management and fitness regime at Blades then I don’t buy it. There’s a lot of personal baggage that McB carried and he’s openly admitted that he needs to grow up. I suspect the year in Spain helped that process.

McGoldrick, Sharp, Egan, Baldock, and many more. All of those were fine with the player management.
