Why Blades fans should cheer Owls in the play-offs

The Stir continually denies having a biased attitude towards the blue half of the city and it's quite possible some of it is all in our heads but it poses the question time and time again. Why do they strenuously deny it yet constantly give Blades fans the obvious ammunition to throw it back in there faces? This ridiculous article (Which would have had the same response if the boot was on the other foot) has quickly followed the cup semi special on the day we went up. All in our heads? Just coincidence? Time and again? Really?

I get the gist of the article and its the sort of stuff that you hear from non football fans like older family members who just don't get the rivalry. What I'm amazed at is the Star have actually allowed this to go to print! Talk about asking for criticism! If it had been written by a well known footballer than at least it would have that credibility but a journalist who as others have said is no more knowledgeable on football than we are but should know the rivalry of the city, or does he just work freelance from down South! It just goes to show how out of touch the Star are with proper football fans and I include pig fans in that. If it was the other way round they'd certainly not be cheering us and nor do I blame them for that.

Also as much as I love Sheffield, I support Sheffield United! Not Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday or just Sheffield!

First read this post when it was just 1 page and resisted the temptation to comment as I wanted to give myself time to form a balanced and unbiased opinion.
Having mulled it over all day I can now say that I won't be lending my support to our local(ish) rivals.
In fact they can knob off, I hope they get soundly thrashed by the Udders, or failing that are victims of a severe episode of Cottaging. There's only 1 effin Fulham.
There, its off my chest now.

I had to read that several times to understand it. What you're saying there is that Martin is an Owl. Clever way of putting it though!

Is he a pig or just trying to "pit Sheffield first"!?

I can only assume its clickbait garbage designed to make blades fans erupt into a fury and head on over to the star to give the guy some verbal. All the while making them .

Looking at danny boys constant links and posts to the star i can only think they want to get extra traffic.

Ignore them and they might go away.....

'Constant links.' Probably posted 2/3 ever, usually in response to some nonsense post that bears no reality.

The star has hit a new low......... I dont even understand the point of this "article"

Blades fans, steel yourselves. You won’t like this but it needs to be said - Sheffield United fans should cheer on Wednesday in the play-offs.

Don’t curse, laugh, mumble, groan, screw up the paper or click back to e-bay.

Bear with it. I’m not calling for a fantasy black-and-white 1950s sportsman-like utopia where we all wish each other the very best, touch the peak of our caps and cycle to work as the factory hooter goes off, compelling though that may be.

No, we’re talking about naked Sheffield United self-interest and here are five reasons why:

1. If Wednesday go up it puts pressure on the Bramall Lane board to invest in United so they can get even.

2. United are champions and Wednesday can’t be so you’re one up there.

3. It’s a step nearer having two Sheffield teams in the Premier League – it might not be the step you would have chosen - but it’s a step in that direction.

4. You don’t really want to play them next season do you? Who needs the nerves, the anxiety, the wind-ups at work - not that they will totally disappear obviously but save it until it matters more, in the Premier League.

5. It’s good for the city of Sheffield – that sounds a bit like someone’s gran talking but it’s true.

If Wednesday beat Huddersfield over two legs and then go on to triumph at Wembley, Blades should take the crowing and the mickey-taking, ignore the ‘We are Premier League’ chants and play the longer game.

United won League One as champions with 100 points and games to spare, no team could do more than that. They can’t make up all the lost ground of the last ten years in one season.

Sheffield needs two teams in the Premier League and one of them probably has to get there first.

There will be Owls and Blades full of scorn who don’t give a damn what happens to the other lot, in fact they’d rather they went out of business than do well. Don’t be so small-minded.

Wednesday and United in the Premier League makes Sheffield a world-class football city and that’s good for both of them and everyone else.

So smile Unitedites, remember your 100 points and the champions’ parade through the city last week, cheer on Wednesday and suck it up if they win.

It’s all part of the Sheffield master-plan . . .

I've not read this shit but can't we get rid of it Foxy?

Should have already really, it's copyrighted

Not sure if serious, but I think it's likely that this would be classed under the "Fair Dealing" and "News Reporting", along with the link to the original source material and named author.

I'd imagine that Martin knew exactly what he was doing in creating the article and one of the intended outcomes of the article was to generate discussion and attention... Something it has achieved with the original post here.

Interestingly, multiple members of the local media (print, radio and television) have used our content many times without attribution and contravening copyright - some would say it appears that that's just the modern method of journalism - but that's a matter for another time :)

I'd also like to remind that in the UK a work is “original” for copyright purposes if it is the result of its author’s own skill, labour, judgement and effort.

I'm a little late to this thread having been busy working, but I can see however that some have overstepped the mark a little in their responses to yourself, which will be dealt with via relevant infractions.

Blades fans don't give a flying fuck about the pigs, the obsession is one way, they can't help but comment on any blades article be it in the star or face book et al.

You're well covered there then Foxy.

A court may well accept the 'labour' and 'effort', but any claim for copyright infringement (as meanly suggested by 'Blade' Danny04) would be thrown out on the basis that absolutely no 'skill' was used. Furthermore the writer might find himself detained under the Mental Health Act, on the basis his 'judgement' is palpably inept.

What next to drum up some clicks?
"10 reasons why the two Sheffield clubs should merge, move to the Don Valley and play in pink"

What do you mean by 'Blade'?

Isn't that your rationale for posting on here? You are 'one of us'?

Otherwise it looks like you just post to keep the Star threads going and the clicks rolling in.....

Ask yourself how many of my 171 posts have come in this thread, and you'll have your answer. Season just gone was my 20th.
