Does the moron really think Wendy would want us to support them?

Would we want the porcine to support is? No f@cking way!!!!

After careful consideration .... Mr Martin Smith ..... superstar journalist ..... and deluded pig liking tool .....

Feel free to take a F**K OFF tablet ....... one of the really big ones that you have to break into 4 bits and then dissolve because they're too big to swallow !!!! o_O

And never darken the gates of Sheffield again ....

UTB & FTP
And when he's fucked off, he can fuck off some more.

If they do go up to the Prem the spotlight will be totally off the Blades, and we can go about our business of getting promoted while those twats get hammered every week on the way to being relegated.

It may be his opinion column but it doesn't excuse the content. It is either widely misjudged or more likely (given that he won't be stupid as a former sports editor - I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt there) it was printed knowing it would spark a reaction and get his article linked on forums/social media and get clicks for the Star as a result. It is a shame that a local publication should try for such clickbait.

Can you imagine the MEN printing an article on why Man Utd fans like Smith should hope Liverpool qualify for the Champions league? The Evening Standard doing an opinion piece on why Arsenal fans should be grateful Wenger has led them out of the top four and below Spurs for the first time in years? No, me neither.

It's not as though there is a local sports news wilderness in terms of subjects to write about either; two local teams promoted - one as Champions, one throwing the Championship away. A local lad about to begin his first summer as England Captain. Two local teams relegated and one about to embark on a play off campaign where there are tons of subjects that could be tackled as a valid 'opinion' piece ahead of the tripe that was published.

A local newspaper with a long history turned into clickbait nonsense that the 'you'll never believe what the Alesi twins from Neighbours look like now' style articles would be envious of. You must all be very proud.

Danny04 .... nail...head.. you're an embarrassment and to be fair the quips aren't working mate.. nobody's buying them....ironic or what !

Ok lads Tezza1889 Tyler Durden, let's agree to disagree. All the best

I've usually admired your guts, Danny boy, and your loyalty to your employer. Sometimes on here I've even thought you were talking reasonable sense. In this instance though, instead of most of us agreeing to disagree with you, perhaps you should just admit that this was a pisspoor opinion piece and accept that you are defending the indefensible.

Hi SBB! I was once again brought into the thread by another poster(s) and as far as I remember, my only real contribution has been to deny the untruth that Martin's an Owl, and that we didn't sell any of our special. He's not, and we did. I don't agree with the opinion piece, as it happens, but that's not the point, it's an opinion of one writer and people are always going to disagree with anything. (Although there's one point I 100% agree on from the article!). You're of course well within your rights to disagree, that's what the forum's 'ere for.

Do you know I can remember the exact same article aimed at the pigs in the Stir when we played Palace, Bradford and Huddersfield in the final at Wembley.

I remember that it went;

1. Blades wesh. It's going to catch on.

2. Blades don't have sex with close relatives. It's a good idea to keep the gene pool fresh.

3. Blades tend to be better looking and quite astute. A lot of them have jobs. Yeah, weird but they seem to like it.

4. Wednesday are shit. Sorry but it's true. Ask anyone. Anywhere. Go to any part of the world, where English is barely spoken and the three phrases you'll always hear are 'fucky-fucky, me so horny', 'Manchester United, David Becham' and 'fucking blue and white cunts, pigshit bastards fuck off'.

I'd guess that is wanting both clubs in the Prem which is fair enough from a local perspective.

I don't agree with the opinion piece, as it happens,

Again, good that we agree here. The main point though is why would Martin Smith who I believe was a former sports editor of the paper, choose to write such an opinion piece given the many other aspects of Wednesday's play off campaign or current issues in local sport he could have opined about?

It was to be 'controversial' and create clicks for the site and such a reaction - there can be no other reason that doesn't insult the intelligence of the writer. It's gutter tabloid mentality and something the local paper should be above in my opinion.

It is a shame the Star isn't above it. You will of course defend your employer, but I hope that somewhere within York Street some of the vitriol and feedback can be taken constructively and maybe, just maybe the paper can start actually doing a decent job of reflecting local sporting news and opinion and delivering good, high brow journalism.

You're a long way off with printing shit like that at the minute though.

Same here. I'm going to dye my hair ginger, stick some wet look gel in it, join the EDL, put on an unwashed sondico shirt and start pogoing up and down outside Legends on Hillsborough Corner whilst singing the teletubbies theme (or whatever their latest terrace anthem is) with a half of Strongbow dark fruits in my hand.

It's sometimes used as a Blades pub anyway so I've heard.

It'd be better used as a toilet from what I've seen of it.

That ^^^^

Whatever the reality of the situation The Star has to accept that a decent number of Blades feel like there is bias against United.
Simply coming on here and saying 'no, we're not' really isn't going to change anything. If I ran The Star I'd want that perception changed and I'd take the accusations seriously. It's not easy in a two club city but, in a declining market, I'd be very sensitive to anything that might reduce readership further.

I'm sure the intention was for it to be a humorous article but these days football is pretty much beyond parody and ribbing the fans of one club over the potential promotion of their rivals is always going to be straying into dangerous territory.

This article is absolutely pathetic, childish drivel. I wish I got paid to produce something akin to what a 12 year old would do in a classroom row about which club is better/bigger/deserving etc.

The Star are absolute wankers.

Well put. Exactly my experience :)
