Against Boro, both Darius Henderson and new signing Ched Evans have been unable to play in any of the club's pre-season fixtures due to injuries. Jamie Ward is starting a two-game ban. So who do you think will play up front?

i.ve a feeling that Evans will play. Its all been a bit of a smokescreen. IF he's not fit then i think the team will be- Bennett, Bromby, Kilgallon, Morgan, Taylor. Cotts. Monty. Williamson. Reid. Then Howard just behind Billy. AND Billy will defo score.

Rovers eye Sharp as Blades face striker crisis

SHEFFIELD United striker Billy Sharp could be sold in the next 24 hours, leaving manager Kevin Blackwell with a major crisis in attack for the opening game against Middlesbrough.

Transfer-listed Sharp is wanted by neighbours Doncaster Rovers, who raised £2m yesterday by selling defender Matthew Mills to Reading.

If Sharp departs, it will leave Blackwell without a fully-fit striker for tomorrow night's televised ChampionshiADVERTISEMENTp fixture at the Riverside Stadium.

Blackwell, however, was refusing to rule out the possibility last night, saying: "If a deal comes in that is right for Billy and right for the club, we won't stand in his way."

Both Darius Henderson (thigh) and new signing Ched Evans (back) have been unable to play in any of the club's pre-season fixtures due to injuries.

Striker Jamie Ward is starting a two-game ban and the Blades have released strikers Danny Webber, Arturo Lupoli, and Craig Beattie over the summer.

Ironically, Blackwell wanted to bolster his attacking options by landing former Reading striker Leroy Lita this week but Middlesbrough won the race for his services.

The Blades have been forced to scale down the size of their squad after two consecutive promotion failures and the cessation of parachute payments.

Blackwell invested £3m in Manchester City striker Evans but the Welsh international needs more time to work on his match fitness.

Sharp, 23, was put up for sale after failing to command a regular first team place last season. A lifelong Blades supporter, he had returned to the club for £2m in the summer of 2007 after being sold to Scunthorpe United by former manager Neil Warnock for just £100,000.

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO NOW?!??!?!?!?!:eek::eek::eek:

Foxy's bought some new boots just in case :D

If Billy is serious about not wanting to leave, I wonder if he'll refuse any offer tabled by Donny in the hope that he'll be playing the next few games for us and use the opportunity to prove a point? That's what I'd do because I love the blades dearly, would play for peanuts... and I'm an idiot.

Don’t think Blackwell will give him the chance to be proved wrong!
Even if he’s available Blackwell won’t play him even if we don’t have any strikers.
Id be surprised if he played, hope I am wrong but I get the impression they don’t get along.
Just hope Blackwell’s not that stubborn that he’d risk the first game just to prove a point.

Not that I'm suggesting it as a good idea, but hasn't Cotterill played up front before?

Im even more concerned as Ive got a feeling that our midfield will be Monty and the mighty Quinn.

Hendrie 4 game ban
Williamson Injured??
Brian Howard - Still waiting for him to arrive from Barnsley.

Hoping Evans plays. Not sure on his strike partner. It'd have to be Sharp at this moment in time?

I think, deep down, we all know the answer to that. :)

:D Not that far, is it!!? Mind you, he's probably travelling by horse and cart across cobbled fields of coal.

How you can still see Sharp scoring after 2 years, I'll never know.
I'm sticking to what I've said all along. With the right service, he'll get goals. I'll be proved right at some point, I'm just 95% sure it won't be here. He's into his final 5% chance now though!

Probably play 4-5-1 so i reckon Ched for first 60 mins and Hendo for the last 30. Just hope we try for some width and that the ball sees some grass.....hopeful of a point at least.

I agree mate, he's never going to score many for us. Whether it's his fault or not, if he's not scoring he's not worth a first team place.

I think with Reid on one side and Cotterill on the other, there's gonna be some dangerous balls into the box. They both had a fairly good preseason and Reid definitely looks like a steal.

To anyone who saw the game on open day (unfortunately I was away) did evans and henderson look injured ?

why is robertson not an option ??

Hope so. Always liked a team with wingers. Woody, Colin Morris. Hopeful that Blackie will change the style of play this year. Get Cotts and Reid playing and we might get some excitement. It was quite a good season last year, but i lost count of the times i said to my son "this is boring" last season. COYRAWW.

Think they're both on their way to fitness, but not yet 100%. Hendo i think has had a long-term achilles injury. As a runner myself, these are notoriously difficult to recover from. Ched has had a problem with his back.

It was quite a strange season last year, in that we didnt play very much entertaining football at all, but we were still getting the results.

I heard a man on Radio Sheffield discussing how he would have preferred United to have lost a few more games, but have played more entertaining, good football, as in the long run, the entertaining good football would produce more wins.

Still unsure on how I stand on that theory!

They both looked alright in the open day game but it was hardly a full tempo match... Morgan and Monty only know one way to play, but everyone else was taking it easy.

As for Robertson, the only thing I can think of is that the crash investigation stuff is still over his head?

Does anyone think that Blackie will change the style of play? I hope he does as he was far too negative last year compared to when he first took over. Yes it was a bit gung ho at times but at least it was exciting to watch and we often looked like we might just get a bag full...

Not sure JonBon. I can understand it sometimes, but i often think (as i did when NW was manager) that we sometimes spend too much time worrying about the opposition. If we can play at home like we did against Preston in the play-offs (a big "if" i know) - pressurise them, but use the wings when we get possession then i'm hopeful of an exciting season.
Then again i'm not Blackie, whose job depends ultimately on results!!
