Who will go down as a legend?

Legend is a subjective word.

My legends are Hagan and Shaw (by reputation), TC, Woody, Keef, Deano, Billy and Tufty.

Not John Harris - no understated legends for me.

TC and Woody gave me my youth, Keef gave us back some self respect, Deano gave us his love and some self-belief - but Tufty and Billy gave us our club.

In my 50 years supporting, this club is tighter than at any time that I remember.

TC was a great player, but our club rescued him. Billy and Tufty were good players, but they rescued our club.

Hendo - nope, not ours. Alan Kelly is the .
Baldock - rapidly homing in on Bradders. Could supersede him. I loved Vass but he didn’t get promotion to the prem, so he’s out.
Stevens - not in Dane Whitehouse territory yet, but pushing hard.
Bash - second only to Jags. Could yet surpass...
O’Connell - I’ve not seen better at left sided centreback. What a player this lad is. What. A. Player.
Egan - nobody can touch McGrath for genius, but for overall contribution, Egan only needs to play another season at this level and he’s in ahead of any Bassett era centre half and Chris Morgan.
Fleck - we didn’t have a better central midfielder under Bassett or Warnock. So he’s in.
Norwood - as above, he’s in. Best right foot I’ve seen bar none.
Lunny - not played sufficient games to be considered.
Didsy - his only competition is Glynn Hodges who, as it stands, contributed more. But I prefer Didsy as a team player so pencil him in by this time next season.
Moose - potential to be the best, but a mile to go to overtake Deane.


Talk to me this time next year if we stay up, and I expect 3 or 4 more get a . This is the greatest team of my lifetime, beyond question.

I don’t have McGrath ahead of Morgan or even Gayle and Beesley. It’s just impossible not to mention him, even if his contribution was minimal. He operated on a different plane.

Bash has been through hell, about 10 managers, being overlooked and told he isn't good enough tens of times. Now he's a Premier league contributor. That man is a club legend.

He's had the longevity and his fair share of criticism along the way but then so did Monty.

Should have been in my honourable mentions maybe. Got close with Tonge and Jags.

Bash has been through much more crap and has much more Charisma than Monty though. And he's got the winner at Leeds as a signature moment

We've got a statue of a much loved administrator in the carpark. We're overdue a footballer or two. Hagan, Needham, whoever....

It's all about opinions. Yours is just as valid. I'm a big fan of narrative and longevity. Who'd make a great pub companion and after dinner speaker. Cult hero status is important. And players who define eras. Bash gets pretty close on all those fronts. But he was never the best player at the club

Just watching the 'one of our own' podcast with Tony Currie and it made me think... Which players from this team will be talked about with similar esteem to TC? His era was a long way before my birth, let alone when I began to take an interest in football so my only experiences of him are old faded videos and the many stories my Dad told me as a kid.

I know for many he is always going to be the greatest and it would take something very special to change that opinion but this isn't intended to be a thread challenging that or comparing anyone to him, I want to know who you think you will refer to in particular when telling a story of the legendary Wilder era of Sheffield United.

For me Billy Sharp will be remembered with great fondness, the blade who never gave up on his dream and then fittingly scored our first prem goal on our return.

TL;DR Which current blade(s) will go down in the book of legends?

All of them if you tell the kids and grandkids enough about them, my grandad told me endless tales of Jimmy Hagan, Alan Hodgkinson, Len Badger, Alan Woodward, Billy Dearden, Trevor Hockey Joe and Grahame Shaw obviously Tony Currie and many more yet I wasn’t born until 1985 and I can name all them and more and point them out on team photos even though my first memories are Bob Booker, Brian Deane, Tony Agana etc.
All you people with kids between 0-16years now will most probably be grandparents one day so make sure you tell them about John fleck who came on a free from Coventry, John Lundstram who was dead and buried and rose from the dead, Dean Henderson on loan from the mighty Man U, the Irish boys, Oliver Norwood and his effing ping, Billy Sharp (yes my dear grandchild the same billy Sharp who’s just taken the managers job) the club legend, also something to remember in years to come when telling the grandkids stories, let’s skip the whole 6 year period between 2010-2016....

When we think of Blades players past and present, it would be nigh on impossible to pick a best Xl. Too many candidates.
In years past, we'd go and see opponents who had one or two stand out players - and watch TC show them how it was done. Nowadays everybody has a team of multi million
pound internationals. Game's changed.
This team we have now is a team, and maybe the best team we've had. Appeh days being a Blade.

George Underwood in 1951. Didnt play in any 1st team appearances for Wendy.

Howard Wilkinson was our youth player but didnt play in our 1st team before joining Wendy in 1962 and played 22 1st team games for them.

Roy Hill left us for them in 1976 but didnt play in any 1st team games for either club
