Chappell impressed in pre season in 2010. Message boards contained messages saying "who was that quick winger down our right. Thought he was brilliant!" Didn't see those games myself, but the tone of the views were similar to those when Naughton and other youngsters came into the side. People didn't know who he was, but were impressed.
Since then we've tried the approach of developing him in the reserves and in training. It is the difficult way of developing a youngster, they all learn more at first team level. He would have been a better player now, if he had played more.
Chappell is the only quick and tricky right sided winger in the squad. It is a player type that we lack and we have to find out now if he can do well at first team level. Rather than playing players out of position again I think we should give him a few games.
McDonald may like an out and out winger to pass to. Kitson may like someone to add more width and provide crosses. Our counter attacking could benefit from someone who likes to run at defenders. Let's try to find out now if Chappell, rather than a striker, central midfielder or full back, can give us that.
