Who on here has been to the most away grounds watching the Blades?

My stats are similar Brownie, wife's doing a count up. We've got programmes for them all.

Yes I can count but each end of season she sorts them all into next season's leagues anyway, yep, keen as mustard.
Would she like to come and sort my garage out?

I've got about 45 years worth of programmes stuffed into boxes, carrier bags, black sacks and all sorts of other recepticles in no particular order ;)

Eventually I stopped buying them because I came to realise what a waste of money it had become in the internet era when there was nowt new to read in em.

Not going to win this by numbers so it only remains for me to say;
"I've been to Gay Meadow."

Foxy Ball_Sup (Phil) what's the smallest first team ground (not training ground or academy) you've seen a Blades team play?

Probably Sandygate for me.
Many Training Grounds/Academies are well appointed. Often there is no stand or terrace. But, the pitches are usually very good. Off the top of my head, the best Academy I've seen an SUFC XI play on (for spectator facilities) is Swansea City. A four row, covered stand down the length of one side.
Leaving Training Grounds/Academies out (as asked). The smallest ground I'd say I've seen an SUFC XI play on would be Maltby Main. But that was definitely SUFC Futures & definitely not SUFC First Team.
There is a very grey area between first team & age team for pre season friendlies. I once saw Travis Binnion in a "clubhouse in Derbyshire". I said summat along the lines of "what you doing in here, they kick off in 5". He said - "first team big lads are taking the game tonight". There was maybe one "first teamer" on the park.

If pressed to go deep into the rules - not an academy, recognisably first team - I'd say - what, why are we pissing around putting artificial constructs up - eeny meeny miney mo - TUS Celle in Germany. Allowing someone to put another barrier up - no no no we meant in England - The Emirates, Arsenal - that do you....?
Probably Sandygate....
(Dronfield Town, Harworth Colliery & Dunkirk with The Futures are all v small).
(Essentially some parks in Northern Ireland for the age group SuperCup NI)
(That thing in La Manga was deffo first team, nowt there, just a pitch, but probably a training complex)
(Some of the grounds in Germany (eg TUS Celle) were pretty basic)
I've written about the biggest why don't they just tidy it up shithole ground for my Dem Blades Annual piece. Get yet hands in yer pockets for that one ...

Away games or different grounds?

I did all the then 92 grounds in the Football League at that Vetch Field, late eighties, early nineties Basset in charge. We drew 2 - 2. Since then there have been quite a few clubs coming in to the Football League most of whom we have played at so stage. Then there are all the teams who have had new grounds, been to all but West Ham and Brighton. Then add on Wembley, both kinds, Cardiff, Dundee and St Mirren, Anglo Scottish cup and Scarborough in the Yorkshire Cup.
Without counting, and I can’t be bothered at the moment, I must be getting around that figure.

Come on Furph, don't be shy. What was the final number for consecutive first team games - I stopped taking an interest once you were over 1,000. Superb effort....
I think he went over the twenty year mark without missing a game. I’m fairly sure that he can’t actually remember attending some of them after Goodson had finished with him though.

You wrote about it in Flashing Blade at the time?

Ps. I've done about 95 different grounds. Swansea's new stadium will be another to tick of the list as I did the vetch field twice!.

You wrote about it in Flashing Blade at the time?
I think Matt Bell might have written an article. There were about eight to ten of us who’d all been waiting ages to do Swansea away to complete the ninety two grounds with United.
I remember it made The Star and there was a photo of us all on the wall in The Sportsman for some time.

I remember reading in the Star about a Blade (whose nickname is Furphy cos he used to have a coat Like Ken Furphy) who had not missed a Blade match for so many years. Was it you?
No, not me but Therealfurphy, see posts above. He went about twenty something seasons without missing a game home or away.
That story about his name is correct by the way.

EDIT:So in answer to the question, not me...

It was 28 years without missing a game - League, FA Cup and whatever the League Cup was called, just over 1500 on the trot.

I doff my hat to you sir .

Throughout the 80s and early 90s I was regularly in the late 30s early 40s in terms of games attended every season but for some reason I could never quite complete full attendance at every game in a season . Christ knows how you managed what you did but fair play to you for that . I've almost certainly enjoyed a beer or two with you along the way ;)

Anybody go to the old Elm Park?View attachment 39797
Sure did....can't remember the year but think it was early 80's..... Near to the ground we noticed some ladders set up against a house (guy must have been inside getting some more paint) - we carried them to the ground down the road and climbed over....straight into Reading's open 'kop'.

I remember John Bramall winning the supporter of the year in 1989 and in the newspaper report it said he missed only 2 games since 1964

It's a decent achievement to get a full season in. Let alone 28 on the bounce. As you say, cap doffed !
