Being a Blade is an emotional roller-coaster. No doubt about that. Nobody could write the script; never mind the Geordies, never mind Pompey, never mind even England National Team; nobody does disappointment better than SUFC.

Just reading this Fans Forum anybody can instantly see the turmoil of being a Blade.

If I was ever to utter a few wise words it would be: "SUFC needs a"Messiah", a history changer, a Brian Clough, a Bill Shankly".

Nothing less than that will do for this club to grow.

Survival has been achieved by a very ambitious Blade called Kevin McCabe who has lost over £50m as a conservative estimate, even if things turn out better.

Survival is an achievement now that the whole game has been stitched up by the big clubs.

What we need is a "Messiah". Somebody so exceptional that he can reverse the direction of history and change the course of the SUFC Supertanker which is heading inexorably towards oblivion; slow it down, change it's course and fuel it to propell forwards and upwards.

Is Adkins the man?

Personally, and I must add this is a personal view, he has made a poor start.

However, the man has a brilliant C.V .He has done it before; indeed he has been a demi-Messiah for Scunthorpe and Southampton.

What? Up to now he looks a "novice"? Of course he is not a novice.

Give the man time. I must say at this moment in time he does not bear any credibility whatsoever in terms of what we watch on the field, development of individuals and the group, an identified way of playing, an obvious style, no he doesn't bear any credibility.

However, this is football. The man has the best C.V. of any manager we have had since Bassett. The man is a winner. Let's support him 100% to the day he either succeeds or fails. What? Support a man until he fails? Well yes, there is merit in that too. Far more merit than jumping on the bandwagon to drive wedge after wedge into a man when things are not going exactly to plan.

Hey Blades fans. Are you prepared to step up and support someone rather than carry on as the harshest of critics/ fans. Fans maybe, but supporters, NO!!

Warnock had a better C.V. when he was appointed than Adkins has. I would also say Howard Kendall had a better C.V.!! So as far as "managers since Bassett" goes, Adkins doesn't have the best CV.

If you're looking for a "messiah", which I agree, would be wonderful to have, then Adkins is definitely not the man for that title.

OK Borbokis. You opt out of the theme of the O.P. do you?

Never mind details, never mind "titles", argue about fractions; will you support the man at this difficult time?

Do you want to have him sacked? Have you an aternative "messiah"?

He CAN be the messiah but only if he culls all the dross in our squad and brings in a squad of players who can "walk the walk" better than they can "talk the talk".

He needs a keeper who plays like his life depends on every clean sheet and dominates his area, a defence that can defend and is mean and tight, a midfield with a proper engine and some creativity and strikers who CAN actually, consistently score goals !

Then; and only then, can he take over Tony Curries role of "walking on water" !! :p

Adkins is just a man whos got 2 teams up out of league one

strangely from similar positions to what we are in now , 9 points adrift at xmas

Hey Darth. TC was a fine player and a showman, but leader of men?! Come on, not even that, never mind a "messiah".

We want a Messiah? Well this is a serious suggestion - we should make an approach for Mourinho. The guy's the best in the business and he's available.

If we want to achieve our potential then here's the opportunity of showing real ambition.

Have you been injecting some of Barneys smack? Fucking ludicrous, especially the last line.

You can slate any manager you like but the fact is every manager that I have experienced from Harry Haslam onwards has had the rug pulled away and our chairman at present is no exeption. Selling players is the United way.they wouldn't be in it if it lost money. Managers and players must have to take a reality check when they come here. It is a poisoned chalice

Excuse me, but that does not apply to the O.P. or Adkins. Fair comment?

Whatever the smokes and mirrors anyone may perceive, fact is each manager has to make a success of their own particular circumstances. Successful managers ride roughshod over all barriers... FACT.

Come on Blades, there are more enablers than barriers at S2, surely!!

Sorry that post is tenuous.

He claims he got £1.5 million for Deane.

Weren't Benifica broke? Didn't we actually get fuck all and a pre-season friendly to make up for it?

I haven't got a copy of 'Fit and Proper' to hand.

Agree with that wholeheartedly Woody

Sorry mate but that's a load of bollocks IMO. Messiah??? Jesus!

Lol, is that an intentional pun on JC Superstar? He's a man, just a man ;)

A) the OP is a bit fucking nuts, you build up an impossible situation and then ask whether Adkins is a Superman/Batman/Spiderman/Mourinho when he was made of Teflon.
No he's not. Don't be so dramatic. Don't be upset when he's not. All those factors you mistakenly cite being thankful that the family McCabe own most of the land that our club used to own is not some kind of fortuitous outcome of one mans benevolence.
B) you seem to like being a bit of click bait - what do you think? Will he take us up two leagues, win that league, win the European cup? No of course not because our immediate ambition is to spawn our way out of this godforsaken league, maybe flounder in the league above for a year or two and then settle. Seriously what do you want/expect?

All the answers to that are in the O.P. except they are questions!!

The question is exactly what you proffer in your first paragraph.

However, what this club needs is indeed your Superman!!

He is none of those things...this is what he has to say to himself:

1) OK, I've been here a while, I get it, the owner and his side show boys are clueless cnuts....humour them but don't let them interfere with real decisions.
2) This giant squad full of crap has to go - get shut and don't look back.
3) I'm the famous Nigel Adkins and I've done this before - twice. So fck you people who don't believe in me. I believe in myself
4) And fck you Kevin McCabe. If you want me out, you can show me your money first. I'm here to do a job and I'll do it. I'll keep my head up high.
5) The fans of this mighty club deserve only the best :)

PS: I am only partially convinced about one of these points. Can you guess which one it is?

Ok. I re-read it.

You are wondering if Adkins is a once in a generation manager who happened to stumble across a set of circumstances that enabled an enigmatic genius to jump a league, win it, win the European cup in six games or whatever it was then and then build a dynasty?

No.

I'm not sure where to find one either. But he might be better than another manager with a track record of half a season that lots of people want to sign up. So I say let's give the positive man some time to drum it in to our small South Yorkshire minds that we might actually amount to a hill of beans.

He needs to stop saying "football club" and a few other things but we need to embrace some optimism. What's the alternative? Steve Clark on a dour downward spiral?

Give positive Nige some time I say. We look awful at the moment but we really need to let someone have a couple of years at this. . . And I said the same with negative Nige but now apparently he was some kind of rogue agent employing an army of minions against the preference of the board that allowed him exactly that leeway, that we should be thankful for because KMac has offset an accounting loss for us against his multi million empire. Jack Walker he is not. Btw his family make money off you having a pint in that god awful hotel, not Sheffield United.

We agree then, except I don't mind a man calling a football club a err football club and I don't set foot in the hotel, not in a million years. And I'll just quote below your previous post just for the record:

A) the OP is a bit fucking nuts, you build up an impossible situation and then ask whether Adkins is a Superman/Batman/Spiderman/Mourinho when he was made of Teflon.

We agree the manager deserves time then as per O.P.
Fair dinkum??!!
