Who is the best player ever to play at Bramall Lane?

If we're not talking about performances on the day, then it's obviously Cristiano Ronaldo. Probably the greatest European player of all time, alongside Johan Cryuff and definitely the best to have played in England.

Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp have never played at Bramall Lane.

I realise the thread is about 'players at Bramall Lane' but Bergkamp and Henry were brought on as subs in the semi final 2003 at Old Trafford when we laid siege on their goal.

Best players I've seen at Bramall Lane (not necessarily their performance on the day)...

Gazza
C Ronaldo
Scholes
Cantona
Carlton Palmer

Bergkamp has. he played when we beat them 1-0 in the Cup 3rd round replay in 1996.

He was crap (as was Ian Wright that night).
As I recall, it took Bergkamp quite a while to settle and show his true form.

Yes during our second era of playing in a 3 sided ground. Was sat in BLLT behind the goal that Veart scored in. I don’t know if it was Gary Sinclair on the mic. But I always remember the announcer saying something leary about us winning and us not needing a replay before a ball was kicked.

ive never got the fuss over Portugese Ronaldo, he can beat a man well & good at set pieces but besides that he selfish, couldnt be any less of team player if he tried, isn't happy unless he is the only one in limelight & relying on quality of teammates to score his goals

I'm gutted that Henry was rested in 2006/07 season, as for me is was premier leagues greatest striker. but from what ive watched I would say between Scholes or Drogba
He's scored 700 goals!!

Players I've actually seen - Not based on that days performance, just career achievements

Bergkamp
Ballack
Pains me to say it but Steven Gerrard
Ronaldo
Gazza

Random players who had stormers against us

Michael Bridges
Ben Watson
Jason Koumas
Shay Given
Marco Gabbiadini
Stewart Robson

Lots of love for Ronaldo on here but Rooney’s performance at the Lane was unbelievable that day and probably the best individual display I’ve seen.

shearer scored 280 goals but I don't see anyone saying he was the greatest premier league player, he is good but he's not great. he was finishing off things he wasn't creating things or changing a game
I think a fair few people would say Shearer was one of the greatest Prem players. Now you mention it I'll definitely add him to my list.

Ronaldo is the top scorer in the history of the Champions League, won countless individual awards and team trophies. I think he's a bit of a dick but you can't doubt his quality can you?

You can prefer others style, Bergkamp is my favourite player. But I know he isn't as good as Ronaldo.

My Dad has followed United since the war years. He would say Tom Finney, is the best player to have played at the Lane, his criteria would be that he was the only player who totally out classed Joe Shaw. Everyone else Shaw could deal with whilst not breaking sweat.

For me the best player would be a conversation involving Passarella, Ronaldo, Dalglish or Cantona. Although the best performance at the Lane would be Kinkladze.

My twopenneth Tony Currie, George Best, Denis Bergkamp, Eric Cantona, Danielle Passarella, Alex Sabella I notice someone put Carlton Palmer please tell me they were joking. These are just off the top of me head there's bound to be more I mean Banks, Jennings I could go on.

I remember watching a Spurs player called Neil Mcnab. totally dominated midfield. I think we got away with a draw - daylight robbery I have to admit.

Ronaldo only really hit his peak when he went to Madrid. Bergkamp was the master for me, a true class act throughout his stay in England

Only if you want to keep missing the point of the thread you could ;)

Jimmy Greaves
Cant remember the year but has to be early 60's when I was about 10. I know that Greaves ran the best part of 50 yards down the right wing towards the Kop, beat 3 or 4 players and smashed the ball past Hodgy off the far post. He always played well at the Lane. Best centre forward I have ever seen. In those days, Spurs often popped 3 past us.
