Cant remember the year but has to be early 60's when I was about 10. I know that Greaves ran the best part of 50 yards down the right wing towards the Kop, beat 3 or 4 players and smashed the ball past Hodgy off the far post. He always played well at the Lane. Best centre forward I have ever seen. In those days, Spurs often popped 3 past us.
He was indeed the greatest, but an inside not centre forward. Left footed but could kick with either foot.

22nd Sept 1962 we popped three past them in a 3-1 win Greaves did indeed get that goal on this day

My twopenneth Tony Currie, George Best, Denis Bergkamp, Eric Cantona, Danielle Passarella, Alex Sabella I notice someone put Carlton Palmer please tell me they were joking. These are just off the top of me head there's bound to be more I mean Banks, Jennings I could go on.
Yes a joke

Me!!! For Sunday team, blades super draw or summat cup.

how aged 25 and at 17 stone being a nippy full back didn’t get me a trial I have no idea!

In all seriousness Ronaldo or tongy on his day was world class

Tongy World class on his day?
Which other world class players have you seen?

So you think that scoring goals doesn't change a game?
Bert thinks that it does.

yes of course games change games, but I thinking of Henry, Bergkamp, Cantona, De Bryune, D Silva, Hazard. where they will create something, run at the defence. moment of magic. Ronaldo finishes of things which not a bad trait but im not sure it makes as good people make out. in the elite company of greatest ever

Not the greatest but Gordon Cowans was an absolute joy to watch for those few months.

similarly Icardi for Inter was great to watch, his movement was better than anything I’ve seen before. Again not the greatest but both were great to watch in terms of their intelligence

hard to look beyond Cantona’s chip in the storm at that cup game (95??) as one of the best individual moments of pure class

Begrudgingly the best goalkeeping performances were from piggy pressman, always played a blinder against United. Also another shout for steve kabba when he was playing for grimsby against the blades, one of the few opposing players who got applauded by the kop.

2 games that I remember where an opposition player stood out a mile as being too good and being on another planet compared to our team.

Kevin Doyle of Reading and then Adel Tarabt for QPR.
That day Tarabt was playing like Messi, showboating making Chris Morgan look stupid.

Agree with some earlier posters 2 Blades players that stood out for me as being absolute class were
Gordan Cowans, never realised he was that good, stood in the centre circle most of the game, brilliant first touch and awareness, so he never game the ball away.
Paul McGrath, really slow but like some magic trick always first to the ball. He knew where the ball was going before it was kicked.

No, lost me (tho not hard) the thread asks for best player seen at Bramall Lane, they are the best I've seen in last 50 years or so
Exactly bpb! The best player you've seen. There can only be one best player my friend. So come on, who t f is it?!! :)

Although the best performance at the Lane would be Kinkladze.

He’s one of the ones that immediately occurs when this question gets asked. Effortlessly glided past opponents, with anyone attempting to tackle him bouncing off him. It was as though he was surrounded by a protective bubble.

Though I’m sure he’d have been appalling for us had Adrian Heath succeeded in signing him.

Kinkladze was a tremendous player. If he was playing now with all the additional coverage these days then the media would be raving about him

Players I've actually seen - Not based on that days performance, just career achievements

Bergkamp
Ballack
Pains me to say it but Steven Gerrard
Ronaldo
Gazza

Random players who had stormers against us

Michael Bridges
Ben Watson
Jason Koumas
Shay Given
Marco Gabbiadini
Stewart Robson

Against us?

Steven Kabba.
