The fact Ronaldo is possibly one of the greatest players ever to play the game puts him as a contender

Though it could be argued back in the day some of England's greats from 66?

In my lifetime Gazza...Thierry Henry...Viera...Giggs...Cantona...or my favourite all time player Bergkamp?

Bergkamp the best modern shout for me. Otherwise George Best by a mile.

Did Paul McGrath ever play against us at BL?

Best was before me really, though I was born early 70's I don't recall United before 84/5 ish.

Surely McGrath played against us for Villa?

Best was a truly great player but can't remember any great exploits at the Lane. Same goes for the maestro Charlton and firecracker Law. In truth we never really feared them under John Harris. I particularly remember a 2-1 at Christmas (Jones and Birchenall I think) which was pretty comfortable and George hardly got a kick.

Gascoigne Spurs ,Abafemi Martins Newcastle ,Dean Saunders Derby are the best performance Ive seen by opposition players ,also Scholes and Phil Neville.

Scored only once at the Lane in December 1964 although he did score a good goal in TC's testimonial

It'd be interesting to know which player has scored the most goals at Bramall Lane having never played for Sheffield United.

cant seem to go back too far, and this is just goals scored against us, not just at the lane. but of current active footballers its a tie between marlon harewood and someone who now plays for us, both with 7

Didn't it used to be Mark ward ?

Best player, don't know...but certainly none of the Johnny Come Lately's.
Best performance that I witnessed was by an obviously injured Bruce Rioch, on loan to the Blades in Mar/Apr 79?? Night game against Wet Sham I think. He stood out on the wing and hobbled about and simply directed traffic..to a 3-0 win. Good players seem to have time on the ball and look so smooth and classy. All to do with anticipation. That night Rioch was in a class apart.

In recent years since being out of the PL I've only seen 2 teams at the Lane being head and shoulders better than us and 2 players really stood out a mile as far too good for that league and by councedance both played in the same kit of blue and white hoops.

Kevin Doyle causing havoc for a very impressive Reading side and
Adel Tarabt playing brilliantly for a very impressive QPR side.

Ballack was class. Drogba stood out to me as well. Can only echo the love for Bergkamp.

And I know that he'll be remembered for that miss, and he didn't have a great game by his standards, but Ronaldo stood out to me by a distance. The first half of that game I don't think we touched him. It was all we could do to force him to the touchline but I don't think we landed a tackle on him. He was that good while playing poorly.
