And I remember only one good one (penalty shoot out victory in the Cup).

Good games against Blackburn? Few and far between recently apart from that cup game...the 4-1 win over them in 1987 with Andy Kennedy's 60 yard run was a good game.

And of course, the 3-3 draw in 1985-6 was not only a see-saw contest but featured Steve Wigley's goal, which remains to this day the greatest I have ever seen by a United player.

We played against them on the day I was Born. I'm glad such an impressive precedent had already been set.

And the horrendous mistake by Burridge from a shot from John Lowey from about 40 yards out which he somehow contrived to let in.

Quite a few players scored their first goal for United against Backburn:

David Powell
David Ford
Steve Wigley
Tony Daws
Andy Kennedy
Richard Cadette
Chris Marsden
Peter Ndlovu

Has there ever been more than the three missed penalties in 06/07 in 90 minutes anywhere?

The only time I could remember it happening in England before us was in 1988-9 when 5 were awarded in a Crystal Palace - Brighton game. Palace missed 3 of them but won 2-1. Each side scored one.

The referee, Kelvin Morton, who was the ref who sent off 4 players at the Lane against Portsmouth, was at the end of a run where he had awarded Palace 8 penalties in 3 games...

This match:

Martin Palermo missed three penalties in a single game. After the second he gave himself a wedgie.

Not include in the clips is Hamilton Ricard (yes, him!) missing a penalty as well, so four penalties were missed in all.

Cordoba scored one from the spot in the same game.

20th March 1971 - scorers (not in order) Colquhoun, Ford, Reece, Woodward, Dearden.
Woodward in 1st min, Ford in 3rd min, Reece in 44th min. Eddie scored the 4th and then it was Billy. Late in the game we were awarded a penalty but Ted Hemsley hit his effort to the back of the Kop. The ref was Norman Burtenshaw who had a good game. The first time I saw us play Blackburn was the 3-1 win at Ewood Park in Nov 1970. Me and my dad (along with Nip Hague and Graham Beresford) missed the 1st half and missed TC's goal. Russell equalised for Rovers before Dave Powell restored our lead with a penalty and then Dearden made it 3-1.

Here is a link for footage of our 2-1 win in Feb 28th 1970. My dad persuaded my mum to let me stay up to watch the match on MOTD

What a nob, fancy taking 3 penalties and missing them all. Just imagine what would have happened to a United player if he had done that...

Think Hodgkinson might in the first minute have been sent off if that game was taking place today! That was one hell of a cross from Currie for the equalizer though.

My first game that....the day of the Wigley Womder Goal

Good games against Blackburn Away yes at home must be the the first time we went down to the 3rd division they got a player sent of around the 45-65 minute and we managed to loose 1-0 we beat top teams but lost to the bottom teams.

Steve Wigley's goal!..Was it Peter Withe he played a 1-2 with before slotting home?..might have got that completely wrong mind..Certainly ranks as one of the best I've seen from us. I was at the "quality goal" game, so I'd say TC's if asked, but in truth that was a bit before my proper era. For other reasons, Michael Brown's has got to be my all time fave..or any goal scored by Brian Deane

heh.. sorry is this the matchfixing thread again:D ??

Martin Palermo got his redemption years later under Diego Maradona when he scored the goal that secured Qualification to South Africa 2010. I think he had previously retired after the aforementioned 3 penalty game, so the story had a nice ending. He went on to score in South Africa I think.
