Funnily enough given another of today's threads, it was definitely Jan åge Fjørtoft. Perhaps still the best finisher I've seen at the Lane, confident to the point of cocky, great fun and with the aeroplane celebration which was so much fun to do on the playground.

He was my hero too. Always gave the impression he genuinely loved playing football. Been pleased as I've grown up to find out he still follows all his former clubs as well.

Addison is probably one of the most underrated players we've ever had , both at the time he played and subsequently .

Len Badger for me, just beating woody as I couldn't shoot well.
It reminds me of the pipe and slippers the defenders used to use when we attacked. A fullback running beyond the winger would've resulted in a stewards enquiry then.
God knows the reaction if Flynn had overlapped to cross for Hemsleys diving header -Keith Macklin would've soiled himself..

I always modelled myself on Chris Morgan when I was in the playground. Piling into 50/50s, smashing through any lad who came at me with no regard for anything. I took no shit off the ball either- I’d dish out the odd kidney punch at corners and the verbals- wow, did I give that out to some of them; really nasty about their Mums saggy tits, etc. Yes; some of the kids got hurt- a few really quite badly- but at the time, I really didnt care. I was channeling Morgs and taking no prisoners.

It was the best two weeks of my life; sadly, the poor reference I received meant I was dumped on the Junior School Teaching Assistant career scrapheap at the age of just 35.

I have never wanted to be anyone other than myself. But I've admired lots of folks down the years and wished I'd had their talent. I think it started with Pinky & Perky, they were two favourites of mine, boy could they sing and dance! then as I matured, I got into "Man From Uncle" and wished I looked like Illya Kuryakin (David McCallum). We used to play "Man From Uncle" as kids and it used to piss me off if I couldn't be Illya Kuryakin - I got fed up with playing Mr Waverley every week!

Football came much later for me, I didn't go to my first game until I was 12. But for the next few years after that, there was one player I used to really admire and try to copy his style of play more than any others. That was Alan Woodward. I played right wing myself and he was a role model for me, with his rapid wing play and fantastic shooting skills. That lad could hit a ball as hard as anyone I've ever seen, but he could also bend it and make it dip. I used to practice, sometimes on my own, for hours on the local rec. Placing the ball in the corner spot and trying to curl it directly into goal, with outside and inside of my foot - just like Woody used to.

I still think even now that he's probably the best player we've had in all the time I've been watching. For sheer skill and genius then it's TC - but for overall contribution to the club then it's Woody for me.
