Where's it gone wrong for Selles?

Pre season we was using a high quick press, winning ball back high up the pitch, with some slick quick attacking play, although some of it came against lower league opponents, the friendly vs Nice we looked good value and clearly vs Fulham.

Burton we looked pretty poor in the first 45 (was that a sign of things to come?)

Fast forward to the league games and we've seen no high intensity press, no slick passing Fast forward play, about 3 shots on target in 4 games, piss week defensively and a non existent midfield? Completely opposit to what we was told to expect and what he was playing in pre season.

Wheres it gone wrong ?

Signing a bloke with a damp squib of a CV to replace a manager who knows how to WIN games

Simple game football score 1 more than the opposiition , cant achieve that if we never shoot at goal
Getting rid of wilder after the massive cock up from January onwards, I could get in board with (given the sitting on the 1-0s & when it doesnt come off is terrible).

But you have to get it right with the next manager, not some random unknown manager thats never had a proper permanent job.

I was all for wilder to go but on reflection I think the style of play he went with that season was due to the turnover of the sqaud and players he had (woth a poor summer, not knowing of anyone was coming or going, himself included and owners), I think he had a work around and it worked for 90% of the season. Fast forward to this summer, I believe wilder would have then concentrated on attacking element since the defending would have been sorted. It was a mistake to get rid, and we wouldnt have needed gut the squad either.

Selles clearly chsnged his mind and tactics from pre season but kept the same formation. He's out of his depth, and someone's gone incredibly wrong for him after first game, players are clearly not listening to him.

Well you start by selling your strongest assets, spend a fuckload on inferior ones, appoint a succession of managers who either don't know the club or in some cases the job, sell more players, continue to replace them with poor imitations, recieve money from selling your last decent player but by this time your manager has signed 3000 more shit ones, that money gets spunked on their wages and he gets sacked, appoint another manager who further cripples the clubs finances by signing even more abysmal players, slide further down the table with a gigantic squad list, new manager comes in and has to spend money just to get said players to fuck off and is left signing donkeys who wouldn't even cut it as programme sellers 10 years ago.

Et voila, you have yourself a nice big Sheffield United clusterfuck supreme.
They have brought 9 players in this summer and it has us in last spot

Perhaps we were in a steady decline for the last 3/4 seasons. The old quote of how you became bankrupt? "Slowly at first, then very quickly." We failed miserably in the Premier League, then failed in the Play Offs - and maybe this was the direction of travel even under the Prince. Slowed somewhat by, let's call it "The Wilder Effect" - who pumped up the players pre-game to play above and beyond with simple instructions and tactics - the reward being less intensive training and a few beers over the weekend. Now the players don't like this new Selles regime.

Even if Wilder had stayed, this decline might have happened - just outside the top 6 this season, mid table the season after etc., etc.

So we might have needed this change in culture / tactics and players, and sometimes a change leads to chaos and a sudden drop in performances. But you have to do it at some point. Maybe if Wilder had stayed 2 more seasons and we did slowly decline - and Selles took us over the season we avoided relegation, the start we are witnessing this season wouldn't have been so dramatic and felt so bad.

Is the board completely overhauling the entire culture, playing style and tactics? Are they aware of what's going on, and have confidence we will re-emerge as a better club, gradually climbing up the League? Have they planned for 2 seasons of crap until we can make this turnaround? Or are they actually trying to replicate what the Prince / Wilder did, but are not very good at it?

I can go along with this evolution if it's required and planned. I just need to know. A short message from the board explaining it would be very welcome.
