Where will our dross end up?

Dare I say.. if we are still in League One, give him another year.

How many goals has he directly contributed to us conceding?
Hear people saying we are too ambitious in our transfer targets, and should target seasoned league One players, well Collins is such a player.

Always fully committed, limited in some areas, but a whole hearted player, who cares about the club, and has pride in the shirt.

Neil Collins is a decent League One centre half.

There, I`ve said it

Trenton agree with you being decent for league 1 but not with us . I can rember Collins getting the run around in the championship never mind league 1 . Unfortunately the bloke is tarnished with being part of the failure . What we need is a clean sweep and bringing in winners and hungry players . Collins represents the past failures , so cannot be a part of the future .

We know this and deep down I think Adkins knows it.

The bloke as been well paid over the years . Would he take a 50% pay cut with him caring for the club and pride wearing the shirt . No , it's a job.

UTB

Where will our dross end up?

The squad in comparison to many other contenders has more quality and experience than most. The division is much weaker and outside of Wigan there are no real stand out teams. United have a squad with depth that is the envy of most at this level and have to make it count.

I'd had a few beers and was getting angrier with the useless set of tossers.

Before anyone says who cares; I just want them gone, I do agree with that but be interesting to see where we think our collection of misifts might end up when most move on at the end of the season as 'free agents'

??? Make yer mind up Deadbat! o_O

The thing that worries me is that, if (and given our track record a big if) we take the opportunity to get rid of all of the dross our scouting and recruitment, particularly over the last few years, has been truly awful and the signs are that the budgets are not there for a mass overhaul - meaning we could end up with a load of players on free's the wrong side of 30. Step forward Mr.Turnbull.

For this reason I think the cull will not be as great as some think.

Let's be a bit careful what we wish for.

Neither of those options will see us mount a challenge though. If we keep the existing players, they're not good enough. A load of frees over 30 won't be good enough either.
Adkins and Turner have known about this situation since they joined and will be compiling a list of realistic targets.
It's up to the club to land a few.
I can see one or two being offered contracts on reduced terms but we have to take advantage of the big reduction in the wage bill to sort us out.

The board has to decide whether it is prepared to make a long term commitment to investment (not going mad one year and then cutting back the next if we don't go up) or properly building a team. Then recruit accordingly. We need a strategy that will give us a fair chance of promotion but won't cause a crisis if we don't go up.

It's alright saying we have to go up next season but there are no guarantees and the strategy must take account of this. Every time we gamble and fail, it sets us back hugely.

Really harsh on some of the younger players, young lads learning the game are easily criticised as their game is full of imperfections. Add to that the effect of playing in an under performing side with a see-saw managerial strategy and you're not going to see the best of them.

A lot of the others are crap, though, you're right.

Just rung up the Conference North admin and requested...ordered that none of these players be allowed to tarnish its great footballing heritage from next season! :D

Oh go on then... Connor Sammon to North Ferriby United

See how I did when I predicted this in February....cannot believe I am debating some of these losers still.....

-----

BS - Best cased scenario
WS - Worst cased scenario

George Long -

BS = A further year at United; maybe as back up.
WS = York City as first choice keeper after being released.

Still young enough for a club to gamble on him for a short term contract

* Remained at SUFC - but seems to be first choice with nobody coming in - not sure how long his contract is?
---

Mark Howard -

BS = Back up at somewhere like Leyton Orient back in London.
WS = Aldershot in the Conference South

A League One back up; he is not going to get another club higher than us.

* Signed by Bolton. As a back up. Better than expected really.
----

Neill Collins -

BS = Might get a year at somewhere like Notts County.
WS = Back to his first club in Scottish Championship, Dumbarton.

He has played enough years as a regular for us, gulp, that he may earn himself another year somewhere in England otherwise the safety net to finish his career in the backwaters of Scotland.

* Signed by Tampa Bay Rowdies. Surprised he got a deal in the States but standard is poor over there and not even in the MLS. Good deal for him though.
---

Bob Harris -

BS = Someone like Chesterfield might give him a year in League One due to links with Morgan.
WS = Hamilton in lower Scottish Premier.

Too many injuries but done enough for maybe a side in League One/Two to give him a pay as you play. If not back to Scotland.

* Remains unsigned. Not surprised with his injury record. May have to go on trial. Expect him back in Scotland.
---

Jay McEveley -

BS = A further year at United or a 1 year deal at somewhere like Rochdale.
WS = Accrington in League Two. Made captain.

He has the experience and probably enough footballing back catalogue to get another year or so in the league.

* Signed for Ross County. Got himself a deal North of border. 2 year deal too! Scotland perfect place for poor players to pick up a final pay check. They seem oblivious to standards of play but it is so bad up there maybe he will not be so bad.
---

Harrison McGahey -

BS = Southport in National League.
WS = Chorley in National League North.

Not sure anyone in League football would have someone who was not even good enough for football club Tranmere and is a reserve in League One.

* Signed for Rochdale. Got a 2 year deal also which is a surprise really. Not sure he is anywhere good enough to play League One football. Expect him to be back up there as he was here.
---

David Edgar -

BS = Back to USA and maybe gets a year for Toronto FC - actually that might be preferrable to playing for us for another year which was my other consideration.
WS = Hartlepool. He has roots in North East so could see him here.

Not even sure he would be good enough for the MLS and may end up somewhere like the delicously named Niagara United in Canadian league if he leaves British football. He is 29 end of season so not a kid.

* Back to Canada. Signed for Vancouver rather than Toronto but done well to get an MLS side but maybe him being known with the National side has helped.
---

Kieron Freeman -

BS = Gets a year or so at Portsmouth after having loan spell there.
WS = Mansfield where he was on loan before and local side for him

There are worst players than him and sure he will hang around the lower leagues for a while but he cannot defend well enough nor is consistent enough to play any higher. Looks the sort with his man bun and athletic type style but mostly all fluff and little substance.

* Still here. He actually is ok as back up and a League 2 side could do a lot worse than him.
---

Callum McFadzean -

BS = Gainsborough Trinity. Not even sure he will get regular games in the National League and may have to go one down from there.
WS = Hallam FC/Sheffield FC. That sadly is where he will end up in a few years I feel.

Could not even get in the Burton or Stevenage sides in League Two. A player lacking in ability and attitude. Remember him saying he did not want to go same way as his brother re drinking/knuckling down and although he was involved in the court case a few years ago after a fight; it is more his ability. He is just not very good sadly.

* Signed for Kilmarnock which was better than I thought but he too had played for country (Scotland u21's) and thus has got contacts/links up there. The fact McEveley, Sammon and him are up there in their premier league is embarrassing.
---

Terry Kennedy -

BS = Not been able to hold down a place at Cambridge so not sure with his knee injuries he will stay in the League. May get a short term contract in Non League at somewhere like Lincoln or Grimsby.
WS = Retires. Feel in a year he may be out of the game completely.

*Ended up at Alfreton. They are not even National League; just below National League North. If he does well and stays fit expect him to move up a league or two. If he does not stay fit then he is probably finished.
---

James Wallace -

BS = Fleetwood; if they go down may have him a short contract .
WS = Back at Tranmere in National League or worse still has to pack up completely.

Shrewsbury don't seem to fancy him but seems sort that would play for a local-ish side and his injuries dictate it would be League Two at best.

*Still here. He somehow seemed to have another year on his contract! Transfer listed but of course no takers. He seems to be injured again. United will have to pay him off or see him sit out his contract before he probably packs in.
---

Ryan Flynn -

BS = Scunthorpe. A League One side might give him a year but that is a push and more likely....
WS = Falkirk. Head back to his first club. they may go up and thus he could still get a deal at lower Scottish Premier League.

Flynn is not worst player in the world but a steady eddy at best and with injury problems unsure he is going to get many offers in England aside from maybe League Two.

* Signed for Oldham which is about what I expected; maybe a bit better. Plays one good game in about five which will temper Oldham fans excitement.
---

Dean Hammond

BS = Blades give him a year and make him skipper!
WS = Luton Town. The manager Jones was big mates with him at Brighton.

Think it is inevitable he will sign if Adkins stays sadly. Reality is his legs are done and even League Two is a stretch.

* He stayed but then was paid off. No club yet. Cannot see who would take him. Maybe a League Two player coach who plays occasionally. He is done as a player.
---

Florent Cuvellier

BS = Port Vale might give him a month to month contract. If he stays in England though reastically Carlisle might be as good as he gets until he gets injured again
WS = Sportvereniging Zulte Waregem. A mid table Belgian League side. Will play 3 games straight and then break down and have to pack in.

Not sure he will be able to get any kind of fixed deal in England with injury record over last 3 years. He may have to go back home.

* Signed for Walsall which was due to his history there on loan. Not sure Walsall fans will recognise the overweight, poor touch, can't run player from the promising one they saw a few years ago. Not sure he will last out the season.
---

Jose Baxter -

BS = Could see him going back to Oldham; especially if they go down. They will be desperate and so will he.
WS = Tranmere. Back to Merseyside/Wirral and he can toss it off most weeks in the Non League and concentrate on his main hobbies outside of football. Allegedly.

He has enough talent that a league club will give him a deal based on some goals and promise he has still occasionally shown but is not a kid anymore and sadly other League One teams will have seen what a weakness he is due to his lack of effort/fitness.

* Not heard anything? FA not even rubber stamped any kind of ban? I reckon he may turn up somewhere like Southport or Tranmere after serving a ban (be 6 months to a year?) Not sure he will ever be back in league football.
---

Stefan Scougall

BS = Hibs. Back to Scottish League. If they go up he may be deemed not good enough for Scottish Premier League ironically.
WS = Livingston or St Mirren. Scottish Championship (2nd tier) about his level.

Not a free agent but sure the club will release him or pay him up. He will head back to Scotland. He has shown he does not have any particular quality after looking a real talent when he first came.

* Still here. Not sure he will last season out when Wilder realises those few games when he claimed he 'tore it up' was as good as it got. Offer nothing but a headless chicken.
---

Connor Sammon

BS = Dundee United. Their big money signing (free) that will spearhead their promotion charge.
WS = Derry City. League of Ireland about his level.

Will have his pick of rubbish in Scotland or Ireland. His days in English League football are surely done after a series of loan moves has seen him plummet down the leagues.

*Hearts. Similiar to what i thought. They seem to be pinning a lot of hopes on them. Poor sods.
---

Jamal Campbell Ryce

BS = Colchester in a side going for Promotion.
WS = Back to London and a deal with somewhere like Barnet or Wimbleon.

Actually they are both the same but a player approaching mid 30's will probably not get a club at this level. Still could be a real asset for one of those type sides.

* Surprised he has not signed for anyone yet. Expected he would sign for a League Two side at least or go back to Chesterfield. One of better ones we released (for a short term deal).
---

Diego Di Girolamo

BS = Chesterfield / York. Morgan's influence may see him get a short term contract but even Morgan did not see m to fancy him so he may end up back at York but they have changed management so even this would be a push.
WS = Stavely Miners Welfare. Northern Counties East Premier League. I cannot see him ending up anywhere but non league. For all the talk of Italy, he seems a bit of a home bird ; seen him drinking milkshakes in Chesterfield market (not quite McNulty stalking - for the record he did not have a jumper draped over him) and his girlfriend works at the college.

Just not done it and all the dream moves to Italy that were mentioned seemed to be a figment of his imagination. Not even involved in the Italian young squads now as too old; not sure anything but non league football awaits him. Most talked about prospect without actually ever doing anything of note since Ian Ross.

* Bristol City. Pemberton gives him one final chance but he will be no nearer the first team there as here. They have already said he will be in the u21's. In a year's time he will be in non league I reckon.

---

Marc McNulty

BS = Pompey sign him for a longish contract. If they go up ironically they may feel they can do better but they seem to like him and he probably will stay there.
WS = Back to Scotland. Pick a middling - rubbish Scottish club. Lets go Inverness. Do they sell Lollipops?

He is one that could still score goals given half a chance but is quite in and out and plays well maybe 1 in 3 or odd sub games. No sure he has the attitude to make it any higher than middle of League One at best.

* Still here. Surprised he has been given another chance when we may have got a fee for him. Currently if we sign a target man, he would be about 5th choice competing with DCL for a place on the bench.
---

Missed anyone?

That's pretty good going Deadbat. Have to say I'd completely missed the McEveley signing – lost in the flurry of news these past few weeks. The Baxter to Oldham deal seemed to be a very real possibility last week – their fans were convinced he was going to be announced, then Flynn emerged out of the blue.

Overall, our dross has generally ended up where it was expected to go. Howard & De Girolamo are at higher teams, but with far reduced likelihood of playing. The only one I'm amazed at is McFadzean, who like you I thought was destined for a career in non-league.

You missed Woolford and Coutts.

What has McNulty actually done to annoy people so much?
I read that he had a jumper over his shoulders and sucking a lollipop but is that it? I couldn't be bothered to wade through all the threads slagging him off.

He was seen out and about with pals looking happy.

I'd be mindful of any news filtered through the prism of s24su. One man's meat is another man's poison.

He had a haircut.

Following the unfortunate lollipop and jumper incident, apparently (some people may be able to dig up all the old tweets and posts) his dad, mates and possibly he slagged off the Blades fans and management "summat cruel". He obviously thought he was safe home and dry and soon to be signed by Portsmouth never to return. Unlucky!

Just as a suggestion, I think the main beef with McNulty was that in a then failing piss poor United side, he had a roped off area of a night club to himself and entourage which all looked a bit "Billy Big Bollocks". I suspect Blades fans don't mind any player giving it large in a successful side, but when they are paying their hard earned cash to watch none trying shit that sort of thing upsets them.

Anyway DeadBat. Not bad that as a summary. We may still see McNulty go for a fee if another striker comes in.

Wilder seems to really like Scougall and what's he done in pre season, I think some of this may be down to pre season friendlies where no one wants to go in too physically and get injured unnecessary.

When the real business starts I suspect Wilder will quickly realise his error and see that Scogall is too lightweight to make it at Profesional level, if you are that small you have to be a really really good footballer and Scougall I am afraid isn't that good.

All the above you could also apply to Reed.

I am really hoping that CW has given them some ultimatums and that Scoug's, Reedy and Sparky really turn it on this coming season. Along with Che who could do better and the rest of them to be fair. Lets just hope....

Don't worry your little head about Cuvelier or us. I'm sure we'll get the most of out him, as we do out of most players, that haven't performed elsewhere.

It's amazing what professionalism and excellent sports science can do to get players fit, keep them fit and performing to their best. If he was overweight for you, what does that say about your coaching staff and techniques, and dieticians? He looks in tip top condition after a short pre-season with us.

You keep paying wages for names, and we'll pick up the scraps and get the most out of them.

I reckon Flo will play 30+ games this season, and will be as influential as when he last played for us. It's nice to be loved.

#TEAM #NOTINDIVIDUALS

Players react differently to one manager than others
Scougal came on a lot from a very raw youngster under Clough , played excellently gainsy Hull in the semi
Under Adkins he regressed into his shell and wasnt enjoying his game
CW seems to have refound Scougals mojo , was full of the joys of spring
Being happy it seems helps a lot

Scougall will shine this season, I think he can handle this division with ease, naturally he's small but he can take a good kick, he also needs others around him to get stuck in which didn't happen last season.

Surprised by that opinion. I recall one game last year where Scougall hit the deck so many times. Even the most innocuous of contacts and he was down and asking for treatment. I do not see what he offers at all. He does not assist, does not score and never produces any kind of end product. He runs around but is a classic headless chicken. If we are relying on the likes of him, Reed, Coutts in midfield we are mid table at best again. Even with Fleck signed we need 2 more midfielders of me. One of size and presence and one who can get in the box and score goals.

What a load of nonsense. Cuvellier was here for 3 seasons and never was able to stay fit. When he did play he was useless. He was here under 4 managers and none of them saw him as a first team regular. He was on very good wages and did nothing at all for SUFC. To blame the club, managers, sports science would be wrong (United's facilties are second to none at this level). The fact he piled on the pounds and looked absolutely useless when he played was mostly down to one person. Him. No tactics, fitness or sports nutrition is to blame for the fact he could barely control a football when he did play..

I will be amazed if he plays 30 games. He has played 22 games in over 3 seasons!!! You are welcome to him.

It's that nice to be loved at Walsall that most of your players have fucked off this pre season :p

You missed Woolford and Coutts.

What has McNulty actually done to annoy people so much?
I read that he had a jumper over his shoulders and sucking a lollipop but is that it? I couldn't be bothered to wade through all the threads slagging him off.

Woolford and Coutts were not out of contract or out on loan at the time so I thought they would still be here when I did this post in February.

Woolford may end up back at Scunny at best or somewhere like York.

Coutts at the best best scenario may get Clough to gamble on him or worst cased back to Scotland.
