Where Are Our New Ones ?

All these signings we've "missed out" on... Most of them have had one good season.
A couple of years ago people were furious we'd missed out on the signing of the forward who scored a hatful for Yeovil - I can't even remember his name! But i can remember he's done absolutely nothing since that one good season!
Nobody can predict how these players, or the ones we will sign, will play next season. Just have faith that the new management team can select the right players.

Selection of the right players is the key . 2 ex blades leaving Celtic , Stokes and Kasim Richards .

Could end up in league 1, but perhaps not with us .

I can't see us signing anyone until we appoint a Chief Scout. Only McFadzean up to now I can see possibly signing for us

We can play our pre-season friendlies 5-a-side:)
CW knows we have to hit the ground running,he will have all bases covered, two decent centre backs and suddenly the outlook looks much brighter
I could not agree more.

A good strong winning team with a couple of young players coming through, Back playing a decent proper kit .....
Let's hope that Semple kid steps up to the plate over summer ...
Semple would not let the team down..... But let's just get the centre backs in and we can all stop worrying ....... Although I am as worried as the rest !!!!

It was a bit of a 'joke' :o ...

Apologise if anybody else has pointed this out but surely we are waiting for the players we have an interest in to return to their clubs after the European Championships.

Omg, he said getting a player over the line

Now check my maths here. We had 42 professionals last season (source threads on S24) and we've dropped or listed a total of 17, with me so far? In the interview he said we will only run with a squad of 25....... see where I'm going?
42-17=25 so he can't bring in anyone until he sells. He then goes on to say the listed 7 might be in with a chance if they're still here (which most will be to steal a wage)! I sense some back peddling. Players aren't coming to a big name club without big bucks.

Thank you, in depth analysis over.

He specifically talks about the positions where he is going to recruit, eg "3 centre backs" regardless of who moves out so your analysis is flawed.

I can't fault your arithmetic but there is something squiffy about your result.
We already have a squad of 25 ? No !
We have got more than 12 players that I would trust in a match day squad ? No !
We have Billy Beard Duffy Hussey Long Bash Whiteman Done Che Reed Scougs DCL , 12.
We have got more than 4 players who I would expect to see starting every match in a top 2 side. No ! Those would be Billy Beard Duffy Hussey , 4.
The other 7 would be - first choice GK , 2x CBs , 2 x CMs , proven physical striker , winger , 7.

Coming at it from the other end -
Starting 11 is Billy Beard Duffy Hussey plus 7 good newbies.
Subs are Long Bash (for CB) Whiteman Reed Scougs Che DCL

The squad players are numbers 19 to 25 - Ramsdale Semple plus the transfer listed rejects unless they can be shifted and replaced.

Sorted in my mind and Wilders , squad of 25

and this falicy we cant put two bob together , some right idiotic fuck wits spout on about
Ill take bets now we spend over 2 million before the season starts
when they get back from here , just before the end of June

What odds will you give me on us spending less than £2m in transfer fees before the season starts?

I'll allow you to include any money spent generated from player sales.

Undisclosed fees can only be the best reasonable estimate. If it's too close to call the bet can be cancelled.

Can someone please list our current squad.
Minus the transfer listed players. I guess it will include Brookes, Kelly, Ramsdale and Semple from 21 upwards.

Long, Ramsdale, Brayford, Hussey, Kelly, Semple, Basham, Reed, Brookes, Whiteman, Scougal, Duffy, Sharp, Done, DLC, McNulty, Adams.

That is 17. If we are going with 25 then the cold hard facts are that we need 8 new signings.

That is a big ask before August 6th.

By the sounds of it Eastwood will also be in it if we don't add a new keeper.

We knew that this was going to be a challenge to recruit the numbers having released so many, but it's still a risk we were probably right to take. I'm cautiously expecting a flurry of new signings over the next couple of weeks...

Grateful to LarkyMasher for adding 3 names I'd forgotten - Brookes , Kelly & McNuts.

My 4 starters - Billy Beard Duffy Hussey (4). So need first choice GK CB CB MF MF WING TARGET-MAN (7).

Good enough for matchday squad - Long Bash Whiteman Done Che Reed Scougs DCL McNuts (9).

Have never played for first team so not really in matchday squad - Ramsdale Brookes Kelly Semple (4).

That's 17 ....only seventeen ! So we need the 7 newbies TO START IN THE FIRST ELEVEN. Making 24.

For every one of the 7 newbies that does NOT ARRIVE , CW will have to include one of his 7 REJECTS.

That's Hammond , Woolford , Coutts , K.Wallace , J.Wallace , Freeman , DeGirolamo.

If that doesn't fill him (and me) with dread , nothing will.

CW isn't stupid - he can't expect a performance befitting his "fast-running Blades" from players he's rejected.

There is huge pressure to get the 7 rejects out and 7 FIRST-TEAM newbies in. And I believe it will happen.

With the Adkins/Clough wages policy , the 7 rejects are sitting on a big enough slice of the wage budget to fund high quality first team signings - as long as the Board dig deep for any transfer fees required.

We await the arrival of the magnificent 7 , to replace the rejected 7.

No problem Keen Blade.

I await the newbees as you do

Why do you think we will be able to get seven out and seven in? Who do you think will sign these players who are on good contracts?

Freeman, K Wallace and Diego might get some interest as they're young but who's going to sign Woolford, Hammond or Coutts after the season they've had? I can't for one minute imagine any club will pay them what we're paying.

And what about Brayford? We can't extend his contract at £12k a week, surely? So what happens at the end of the season when his contract is up? We lose a £1.8m player for nothing. He'll leave, at the end of the window, for around £500k, and it will be too late to spend the money on quality players, as they'll have been snapped up by proactive clubs that understand how to turn ambition into success on the pitch.

Don't get it. There are e mails, phones, texts, Skype, satellite phones, even God forbid FAXES. When I am on holiday 12,000 miles away from my work I can still communicate, download, print and conduct business. I have had my holidays disturbed for the last two years by stuff "kicking off" that I have dealt with. Other clubs don't seem to have a problem with people "being on holiday" and manage to sign players. FFS, my ten year old can arrange her life on an i phone and a Mac Book Air better than I can. Are you really saying Wilder has his targets identified and agreed and they are too busy playing golf on holiday to get it sorted?

We’re Sheff United. We don’t mess about with all that fancy stuff like email. We tried it once with fax machines but we didn’t care for it. If a player’s not in shouting distance we’ll just move on to the next one.

Paddy Madden. Scored a similar number to Billy last season for a team that finished above us. He also scored against us at the lane.

Thank you, that name has been driving me crazy all day.

Ok fair enough, not aware he'd recently starting scoring again.

Ever seen CKR being interviewed? Saw one of him during his time at Fenerbahce, what a horrible piece of work he seems. Would hate for us to sign him. Colourful career he's had though, think he's done pretty well for himself financially given his playing standard.

Just checked Wiki

17 in all competitions in 2014/15

23 in all competitions in 2015/16

Only 5 though in 2013/14 after moving to Scunny mid season as he didn't cut it in the championship for Yeovil.

I don't think this board has really earned our patience.

Agreed !!

The current Board have an ENORMOUS bridge building task with the long-suffering supporters of SUFC and they must earn our trust and patience, which will take quite a bit of doing ......

Over to you Board to "walk the walk" ...... "talking the talk" failed miserably ...... :tumbleweed:

Just wait...

Kyle Walker will have a brilliant Euros, prompting Barcelona to bid £24m for him to replace the outgoing Dani Alves, and we get a few million from the sell-on clause to bump up our transfer budget.

It could happen that we get a windfall from Kyle ....... but do you REALLY believe that we would see any of it spent on the first team playing squad ??

The money, as usual, would simply fade away like smoke in the breeze ....... :tumbleweed:
