Where Are Our New Ones ?

We're entering a period of austerity, hear the rhetoric pouring out of McCabe's mouth, being regurgitated by Wilder and being swallowed by fans who now are "happy we're not being taken the piss out of on wages" etc. truth be told (well in my opinion anyway) we are having the piss taken out of us, by the board - as per.
au contraire , after mr Slow balls upped last season this is the year we go for it

Chris will actually make moves in the market , unlike nige the unready

We've sold 16,000 plus season tickets, that's enough for McCabe, he's now no longer bothered what happens for the rest of the summer in the transfer market.

Remember we have a pathway for youth to address any gaps in the squad.

That is being very cynical . Some have put the family riches into the club . Yes season ticket sales are fantastic .

The club is bothered and focussed fully on transfers , although value for money is a key factor .

Pathway for youth is another priority .

The club values support and comment

Kind regards

Kev

Are we talking transfer fees alone? Are we talking net or raising £3-4mil in players sales and then spending £2million?
Who are we going to sell to raise
3 or 4 million pounds Dane?. Blade too long won't be far out with his figure of 2million. We are in the early
throws of building a new squad and when the transfer fees and signing on fees are added together we will not be far short of that figure.
It's a bit slow at present, a few weeks ago we were full of optimism what's changed?. We can be assured I'm sure that Mr Wilder and Co will be
working hard to bring players in as well as getting rid of one's we don't want.

Probably nobody but was just speaking hypothetically. Brayford and Adams are the main saleable assets.

I guess we'll never know if we're talking signing on fees too as we never get a sniff of that information. I can't see us going out and paying say £500k or more for a player though. I hope we will get the right ones and a blend that will work but as someone who didn't want Adkins sacked, I didn't generate a new wave of optimism just because we put a new sacrificial lamb in place to try to mask our shortcomings elsewhere.

bet you 50 quid we spend over 2 million this season
put your money where your mouth is

Already gone from"Pre-Season" to "This season" then? As king of the U-turn, you'll be changing your tune all the way through and denying you ever said it in the first place. I'll give it a miss thanks, spend your £50 on some big telly accessories :-)

no u turn , just pointing the negatories would say if we sold players for 4m nothing would go to the manager

we will spend 2 to 3 million on players , even if we dont sell anyone
if we do sell someone thats money in the bank or some more quality added to the squad

people are expecting too little after Mr S lows lack of activity last season , i EXPECT A MUCH DIFFERENT APPROACH THIS

BUT NOT THIS WEEK AS SOME SEEM TO THINK when they eturn from holiday in 10 days onwards

Worth comparing with transfer activity at other Division Three clubs? -

Bolton - no signings yet
Walsall - no signings yet
Gillingham - one signing (Mark Byrne, free transfer from Newport)
Charlton - one signing (youngster Louis Yamfam, £40k from Stevenage)
MK Dons - no signings yet
Coventry - one signing (Jodi Jones, undisclosed from Dagenham & Redbridge)
Scunthorpe - no signings yet
Bradford - no signings yet
Rochdale - one signing (Neill Canavan, free transfer from Scunthorpe)
Millwall - one signing (David Worrall, free transfer from Southend)
Port Vale - no signings yet

Can't guarantee the accuracy of this - just a quick trawl on the net for each club. But seems to have been very little activity amongst last season's top half sides and those relegated from the division above.

Far too soon to be panicking.

I very much agree that there's no need to panic.

But I would point out that as far as I'm aware none of the other clubs in this division released 10 players and transfer listed 7. Plenty of time yet and I'm still optimistic, but comparisons against other clubs don't tell the whole story because we really are building our squad from scratch.

Couple more in by the time their back for preseason (with at least 1 centre back) and I'll be pretty relaxed though

It's important to remember also that these players have not signed for anyone else. I don't think there is anyone who would be considered a top target that's gone elsewhere and there isn't a signing by a team in our division that makes me think we have missed out. Maybe Tafa fella but tufty ruled that out before he signed for Peterborough.

Aye, very fair point. And has to be said that two clubs in the division - Fleetwood and Shrewsbury - have undergone a fair bit of "reconstructive surgery" already during this pre-season.

It is nervy times for us, I admit (which a decent centre-half or two, or a Ricky Holmes would go a long way to quell). But I'll leave the "Wilder's the new David Weir"-type hysteria to others.

My initial thread has sparked some debate which is great.

I trust CW with what he has to do. What looks likely though is that our thirst for a good number of signings may not happen.

i think we could be looking at 2 x centre backs and 3 x midfielders.

I think nervy is the word to describe things rather than panic !!

Can't wait for this season to start though..... my excitement is well and truly back.

We can play our pre-season friendlies 5-a-side:)
CW knows we have to hit the ground running,he will have all bases covered, two decent centre backs and suddenly the outlook looks much brighter

You're right but there are only so many players available, or at least quality players that are willing to play in this league and that we can physically afford.
Plus, only three sides have to sign better players and build up a better squad than ours and we might be on for another season in division 3.
After today alone, Charlton are starting to look strong.

Don't get it. There are e mails, phones, texts, Skype, satellite phones, even God forbid FAXES. When I am on holiday 12,000 miles away from my work I can still communicate, download, print and conduct business. I have had my holidays disturbed for the last two years by stuff "kicking off" that I have dealt with. Other clubs don't seem to have a problem with people "being on holiday" and manage to sign players. FFS, my ten year old can arrange her life on an i phone and a Mac Book Air better than I can. Are you really saying Wilder has his targets identified and agreed and they are too busy playing golf on holiday to get it sorted?

Let's hope that Semple kid steps up to the plate over summer ...

All these signings we've "missed out" on... Most of them have had one good season.
A couple of years ago people were furious we'd missed out on the signing of the forward who scored a hatful for Yeovil - I can't even remember his name! But i can remember he's done absolutely nothing since that one good season!
Nobody can predict how these players, or the ones we will sign, will play next season. Just have faith that the new management team can select the right players.
