when we win the title

A more serious suggestion, related to a thread a week or 2 ago: if we win the league, and join the small group of champions of leagues 1-4, would it be good to have a plaque on Cherry Street to go with the others marking landmarks at BDBL?

Not for me. Granted we are in a minority of clubs to do it, but it is also sign of some misery and failure to boot.
I would rather we actually win a cup, or the premier league. Given the latter requires either a one off never to be seen again occurrence like Leicester, or around £500m quid in fees and wages I would say let's wait til we win the cup.
I actually fancy our chances winning a cup in my lifetime, assuming I don't drop down dead or get killed any time soon that is. So let's save the plaudits, plaques, statues and glass display cabinets for something that genuinely means something and is a marked achievement that says for that year we were the best in the land at something.

I take the point about it being a consequence of failure, but it would also be an unusual feature. Winning the cup would not by itself merit a plaque - we have, of course, already done that 4 times, though none of us can remember it. But if a lawn tennis tournament at the Lane in 1893 is worth a plaque, then I would have thought a full set of leagues would be as well. But let's win this league first, then move on to the Cup, and we'll all be happy, plaque or no plaque.:)

I agree. With all due respect to Derek his statue should be in the city (or even at Swillsborough) and be replaced by one of Woody at the Lane.

That's never sat easy with me either

Based on income levels, 17th in the prem justifies an open top bus. :(

Of course he does but not until he's passed on and besides this is an extreme case.

They did name one of the side stands after him though in his last season, so that will suffice while he's still alive yet.

He's already got a statue.

I have to take issue with this. Winning this division does "genuinely mean something". Is it where we think we should be? No. But it is where we are. So yes, we will win more in the years to come, but as we competed in this division OF COURSE we should add this to our trophy cabinet. And be proud of it.

You misunderstand my view....I appreciate where we are and that it is still an achievement and a degree of success.
What I don't think we should do is mark it down as a tremendous part of our history deserving of plaques on walls, and special mentions in the blades hall of fame.
If we finish top, there are still technically 44 teams above us.

You must understand my Guinness and Bushmills fuelled opinion.. given six years in this level, given how we finished last season, given how we just OUT PLAY rather than out-hoof the opposition, these players and management team 100% deserve credit this season. When we go on to achieve greatness then this will be a footnote. But it deserves to be a great footnote.

Its great that we are doing so well but Wilder would be embaressed by talk like this.

Lets get a statue of him alongside other promotion winning managers such as Bassett & warnock..........
