When was the last time we actually won the Championship title and got promoted to the Premier League without finishing 2nd or going up via the play offs?

Watching United lift a trophy against Chesterfield wasn't exactly on my bucket list. But I'll take it.

Love to see a more important trophy like the Championship or FA Cup though. I won't even entertain the play-offs... or PL for that matter.

Is winning the championship title that much of a thing now? Seems it's just known as going up to the Premier league 💷 £££

Look, least we aren’t as bad as Leeds
Our play-off record is still worse than Leeds. It’s worse than everybody. Ever.
(see previous discussions of this followed by excessive references to the 4 Yorkshiremen sketch as we all try to outdo each other with recollections of shittier experiences than any rival in play-off horrendousness)

Some play off history below. It was published in 2017 so it’s out of date but there’s some interesting reading. Maybe there’s an updated version?

Play Offs !!! …. Read the attached link prior to our last appearance in there versus Forest 3 seasons ago .. and add another failed one to it .. I think we took over Lincoln with this as the official worst record in them .. can’t fkg stand them now

going up via the play offs

No doubt a far superior read to the (paywalled) Athletic article quoted above!
