You understand nothing! You’re just another simpleton, who twists history to suit his own personal bias and agenda. Life has probably made you into a bitter, twisted bore, much like Trump and Musk.
Elon Musk has done far more for society than you will ever achieve. History will view him as one of the most important men of the 21st century. A hero of our time

71/72 'twas bloody Cardiff at BDTBL again!

What most on here wont know is we went about 20 seasons never getting beyond the 4th round. Absolutely shocking. It was DB in a replay at the Goldstone that did it. We'd not won an away replay in light years and the man did it. A 4th round win. Went mental with delight. Was on the IoW at the time staying with ma. Next round was that glorious defeat at Norwich 3-2?

Not really looked back since except when CW here!
The replay win at Goldstone ground was in the 3rd round in 1987. We lost at West Ham in the 4th round. The first time we reached the 4th round since 1968 was after we won the replay at Layer Road in 1989

There have been a few threads about 50 years ago today, because it was on that day that we beat Wet Sham 3-2 with TC's "Quality Goal by a Quality Player".

That was my favourite game in my favourite season - after that game we were 8th, but only 2 points off second and we finished the season 6th, still only 2 points off Liverpool in 2nd and 4 behind Derby who won the title. The South Stand was about finished and we really thought that we were "Going to Europe next Season" (with TC rather than Sander Berge!)

The next season to be as good as 74/75 was probably Wilder's season in 2019/20 when we finished 9th - tragically, because of bloody Covid, the last game we could attend was beating Norwich on March 7th, when we were "Going to Europe next Season with Sander Berge"! As a result, we missed out on watching us put 3 past both Spurs and Chelsea at an empty Bramall Lane.

The point of this post is that after both of those great seasons we had 2 of my worst seasons ever, finishing rock bottom and knowing we were relegated weeks before the end of the season. (ironically, we won 4 of our last 6 in 75/76 and still finished nearly 10 points from safety!).

Graph 1 (normalised for number of games and 3 point wins) below shows the contrast between the 2 pairs of consecutive seasons each time, but also the strange similarity between the 2 pairs of seasons.

Wilder always emphasises that the players should absolutely enjoy successes to the full as, for most in football, success is a rare breed.

We've won an incredible 25 games and drawn 7 of our 38 games this season. If we go up, next season will probably be shite - but go up or stay down, this has been one of the best.

Got to enjoy and make the most of what we are doing, or wherever we are. That might be getting a good result in L1 or promotion.
There'll be a lot of people unhappy when we don't qualify for Europe or win the PL next season. Seems to swamp to much of people's minds. We all want us to do the best we can, and that has many forms. Yes, enjoy this even more now, as it's particularly rare experience.

You have made me feel very old on this Sunday morning, I was 16 when I went to that game. Where did those years go?

You have misunderstood the Covid point in the original post. The point is nothing to do with Covid affecting games, it is simply that at the end of 2019/20 we were not able to enjoy watching some great results, like beating Spurs and Chelsea at Bramall Lane.
