If we and our fellow neighbours both win our games next week, we'll have hit the 92 points mark, which is the usual target to gain the title, but this year it could not even be enough to secure automatic promotion!

I suppose it's the Blades' way.

Sunderland in 98 got either 90 or 91 points and finished 3rd. This record will be perfect for United and the salt in the wound is that Wednesday will go up by a solitary point. Horrible situation.

But did they go up in the lottery or did Billingham Symphonia aka Stevenage pip them to it?

I wouldn't worry, we'll probably choke on getting that record as well.

Think they lost in the play off final, on pens to Charlton that year. How agonising.

That will look good alongside the highest points total to be relegated from the Premiership.

It was 90 points. If we draw at Exeter, wendy dont lose, then we will equal Sunderland's record. If we win and wendy win then we break the record. If we win and Wendy draw then Wendy will break the record

If we have 3 more games to sort out our forward line I don't see why its a forgone conclusion that we'll get turned over by teams we've outperformed this season.

Well, we have two clueless dullards, someone who hasn't scored since Chico time was a-sweepin' the nation, and someone with a damaged shoulder who could be finished pretty much any time he hits the deck. Fingers crossed eh?

I think, given our we'll-score-more-than-you abilities have now gone, we ought to be working out ways of keeping clean sheets now if we are to have any chance of going up.

if we win and sheff wed do. I think owls go up as there are have got 1 point extra than us I hate to say.

Yup. I saw DW in Barcelona this morning. He had train tickets for Madrid as well and was on the phone to someone called Fernando as well.

pommpey

Do you know that last seasons points total of 42 would have kept us up this year in the championship. Portsmouth and Coventry only got 40.o_O

To be fair, I think this season is an anomoly. portsmouth actually got 50 points. Without their (completely warrented) deduction, Barnsley would have gone down with 48.

It raises an interesting point though. No one has been relegated with anything like 38 points since we went down from the PL. 95 must be the highest 2nd placed points total in the Championship, and it looks like we'll have 89, 90 or 92 points and finish 3rd in L1.

What is it with us????

We got 90 in 2nd in the 2nd tier in 2006. Sunderland got 90 in 97-98 and finished 3rd!

Sunderland's goal difference was +36 and ours is +41, so a draw for us on Saturday will also break their record.

In head to head though we've lost on aggregate to both Stevenage and Huddersfield.

Though as has been pointed out, we had the beating of Palace in '97 before the Play-Off Final.

And MKD on away goals :-(

On the other hand we comprehensively beats Notts County on aggregate and beat Carlise on away goals.

Ah memory playing tricks, I thought we beat MK Dons 3-1 at home.

Do they not? They counted after extra time back in 1997 (or it would have been pens).

They keeping changing these bloody rules.....

They scrapped them for the very sensible reason that the team that is away in the Second Leg (IE the team that finished lower in the league) could well have an extra 30 minutes in which to get an away goal. Folk eventually cottoned on that this was deeply unfair.
