What's needed in January?

I'd suggest the new signings wages. Unless they're here playing for nothing.

Agents fees. Existing players contracted pay increases. Better quality tea bags and Nescafé rather than Aldo's own brand coffee.

I'm open to suggestions on where else it could be though.

If that's the case then I suggest what we need in January is some new bloody accountants.

I've heard Grant Thornton's are good. Oh hang on a minute.......

If we're still up there what do we need to push on? Personally think Midfielders and maybe a CB?

Oh ok. So you're happy with our striking options then are you? (Shown with age that they will be in Jan)

Clarke 32
Sharp 31
Donaldson 33
Hanson 30
Evans 29

(I've not included David Brooks because I got told off on here for referring to him as a striker a while ago - so I'll leave him out because he's a midfielder apparently).

You don't think a little bit more youth and pace may be helpful perhaps? Your views are at odds with Wilder then because he was looking to add Jerome Sinclair and Devante Cole, both young fast strikers. But maybe Chris's got this one totally wrong and we do need more midfielders and another centre half then? Just explain it to us though why you think that?

The accountants have nothing to do with the day to day running of the club - or anything to do with the running in fact - so thats rather an odd statement to make. They audit the figures.

If you put it like that then yeah another striker too!

One always distinctively knows that when you think you've posted a humorous reply it's not in the least bit humorous if you have to explain it.

Thinking about it I may have missed it. Totally.

not wanting to be controversial, but do we need to buy? We accept we are better than the sum of parts. If we buy we must shop in the lower prem to improve on where we are/what we have. That will cost not only fees but wages, which could upset the dressing room. As fans/forum gossips we want the links, but if you look at the op teams, man u, Chelsea etc, they very rarely buy in Jan, momentum and dressing room harmony will bring more points than 1 player brought in

The wages/dressing room thing is exactly what the "pay Brooks £25k a week" crowd can't see.

Wilder will always be looking to improve the squad. Buying other players doesn't immediately constitute upsetting the team spirit in the changing room.

that's a fucker of a problem innit...
pay him and the players who got us here may kick off, don't and he may go...
will give the McCabe bashers a stick either way!
some will say "point out Slew as a reason to stay and grow with the club"
his agent will say "DCL to Everton"
hopefully the lad is intelligent enough to see he should stay till the end of the season, however if you were him and Liverpool offered you millions to go would you?
sometimes we have to accept what we are, players go to better themselves, it happens below us, that's how we got Fleck, and it happens above us - Lukaku to Man U.

What if you tell a player there's a wage ceiling then when he's signed, you pay someone else more? It's very likely to be an issue if we keep this form up and look to strengthen in January and sign from the PL or certain Championship clubs.

Might be worth treating January 24th as deadline day, that way any issues such as what happened on August deadline day could be eradicated?

To be fair I’d guess Wilder already knows what he wants in any event.

More than one mate, definitely more than one.

I didn't put it like anything btw, I just stated the facts. I realised afterwards I'd omitted Lavery from that list. He's the only "striker" we have who isn't coming to the end of his career - (remember we have to exclude Brooks because some people don't think he's a striker) but is he good enough? I'm not convinced he is.

I suppose where I'm coming from is that the weakness in our striker department has been apparent, to some of us, although not many of us, since pre-season. For others, and I include that genius commentator on RS, you know, the one who has tipped us to be in a relegation battle this season, strikers are not a priority. How anyone can think that we are ok in the striker department beggars belief to me. We are desperately light here. It's the one area of the team which, if we improve, could make the difference between play-offs or automatic promotion.

I agree with your observation about cover for Fleck and Coutts. Tbh, it's going to be difficult finding any one player who could duplicate what either of them do. If Fleck is out we need a ball winner in there and if Coutts is out we need a creator. I think Lundstram has been brought in as some kind of hybrid between the two but I'm really not sure what he offers yet? I've seen him tackle aggressively but he seems to move very slow and is terribly fond of a 5 yard sideways pass, so I'm really not confident he can replace either of them. To be fair I thought he had a good game for us at Forest last saturday - but things improved when he went off and Brooks came on.

I also think we need to make a decision on the goalkeeper. We have to decide whether Eastwood is good enough and ready enough to challenge for the first team jersey. If he is, then great! If not, then it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring in a permanent keeper to challenge Moore for that jersey. Blackman isn't our player and we have to look after our own. Based on what I've seen of him so far I wouldn't be interested in signing him. If he can show a bit more urgency and be quicker getting down to shots then I could change my mind, but I'm really just not sure about him and I fear that we'll have to witness him concede a howler before Moore replaces him as first choice and we send him back to Chelsea.
