Genuinely don't think his performance was that much different to anything that went before. When he doesn't score he's a useless waste of money, when he does, he's the next billy sharp. He's a good player and always has been.
I'm glad nobody's interested in him. Looked excellent yesterday and had his best game to date.
His goals tally keeps on steadily creeping up.
Oh and looks like he responds well to Micky, just goes to show that if you play him, his confidence builds
20 goals by the end of the season anyone?
20 goals by the end of the season anyone?
Noticeable for me that he did his disappearing act in general play after Bent went off.
ROFL. Where are those town hall steps again?
He did well yesterday. Not a masterclass as some are suggesting, but more of the same would see us OK. One reason I'll stuggle to get excited is that even at the far right of opinion, it's surely agreed that he's nothing like a £20K per week striker, so I can't see us extending his contract either way. But then again, it's all about avoiding relegation this season.
UTB
That would be the disappearing act where he scored the equaliser?
That's areal tricky one.
Say he hits 15 goals this term. His contract will be up for negotiation at the end of the season, and he'll more than likely want an improved deal.
Do you a) Give it to him
or b) Give him the same or less money, which he'll likely reject, and then risk him having a storming 20+ season and refusing a new deal when it's offered, and going for free at the end of the season.
This thread was about how well he played on Saturday, not how much of a burden he is on our wage bill... can we just stick to the topic and not go onto things he has no control over. Hopefully Benty will be a good influence on him.
It looks like Mickey Adams has been able to wake him up before he takes the field, seemingly overcoming my biggest criticism of not being alert enough. The last few matches have seen an enormous improvent inhis concentration. Good luck to him, long may his improvement remain. I hope that MA can do the same to one or two others now.
Ever since Ched signed for us, he's worked on scraps. He's either been asked to play the one up front role (which he's not suited to or strong enough for) or has had ineffective strike partners to feed off. In Bent he's got a proper player who's strong, clever and knows his role backed up my a manager that will play them to their stengths. In all honesty Ched hasn't really had much service at all during his time with us (much like Sharp) and doesn't really miss many chances. Adams is a 4-4-2 man and Bent and Ched will form a great partnership given the service from midfield (and a solid back 4).
Onwards and upwards.
Maybe Alan Cork deserves some of the credit too.
He's also the penalty taker.
