I've just been away to Ireland for the week and as everything out there is 50 years behind, especially on the West coast (lovely country though!) keeping up with news on the Blades was not easy.

Anyway, I get home and learn;

1, Naysmith has signed for Huddersfield
2, Billy looks to be on his way to Burnley
3, Paddy has all but officially signed for QPR
4, We've signed Bogdanovic which looks for all the world like a commercial decision
5, Monty has signed a new deal which will please some but not others

Blackwell is suspiciously quiet as is McCabe. Birch sings off the same hymn sheet all the time.

We have about 12 contracted players and there seems to be a mad dash for the exit door at Bramall Lane, (Montgomery excepted) and hardly any talk of incomings when other teams are allready recruiting hard.

What's it going to be then? Panic buying of lower league players backed up by a handful of season long loans again........................................oh dear

as i stated in an earlier post mate,kb was moaning about havin to sign a dozen or so players and would soon be able to enter the transfer market seen as we wont be involved in the play offs so we will be able to blitz the market asap, mmm me thinks several loan players and over the hill donkeys will be arriving soon,as we have to keep the wage bill down you know. however,kb maybe in south africa seeing what gems he can pick up,perhaps another maradonna, then again perhaps not, some of us remember the last time we nearly signed him !

Who else exactly is recruiting hard? It seems to be quiet for most teams
Would you rather hear nothing from Blackie because he's (hopefully) working hard to bring players in/ keep the players we've got OR hear lots from him and McCabe only to find that whilst they're making statements to the press, players are slipping out of our grasp?

Yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnn!

How strange that you should hide behind the name "Sensiblade". I can only assume that you're hyper sensitive, because you're far from sensible or full of sense.

A clapping dimwit of the first order truth be told, and your awful spelling of the word "yawn" would only serve to prove that. Tit!

I think he is refering to the number of posts created in this same manner. It's going to carry on throughout the close season and is going to become extremely tiresome by the end.

By the end? surely sir you jest!

that of which you speak grew tiresome around 6 months ago.

And I agree with Sensi

From the flame Warriors site

A reasonably accurate description i'd say
Jerk is sarcastic, mean, unforgiving and never misses an opportunity to make a cutting remark. Jerk's repulsive personality quickly alienates other Warriors, and after some initial skirmishing he is usually ostracized. Still, Jerk is very happy to participate in electronic forums because in cyberspace he is free to be himself...without the risk of getting a real-time punch in the mouth

To let you know the calibre of player we are apparantly talking to and no doubt a number of these will be b.s. or just red herrings, these are taken form itkers on another board and The Stir:

Johnny Ertl (C. Palace from BM itker and The Stir)
Tony Capaldi (Cardiff City lb released - BM itker)
Jay De Merit ( Watford cb released [I think] BM itker)
Marcel Seip (The Stir)
Kyle Bartley (would relish coming back on loan - various media)
Steve Simmonsen (apparantly held talks - numerous BM and other)
Leon Britton (Swansea City mf out of contract - various)

I'm sure there's others, but after a while it gets a bit tedious. Sit back, hold on to your hat and wait for the roller coaster ride. There'll be more ups and downs than a pro in a brothel lol.

Not hiding anything mate.
My names Oli, I live at Batemoor, i'm 34.
I've met loads of people off this forum at the Lion and at matches.
Have you?

Who's hiding? Not me for sure.

The post just bord me as it's been gone over so many times by the negatives and really didn't need to be said in a new thread.

Big hugs n kisses to Big Mart :D Feeeeeeel the Lurve

The title of this thread is something I'm beginning to wonder myself........

I knew there was always a chance we might lose Naysmith, but to Huddersfield?!!!........No disrespect to them but the day we can be beaten on salary by an average league one side is the day we should pack up.

I wasn't kicking off about Paddy leaving, I even accepted that we might lose Monty and Billy Sharp but its the manner of this deal that worries me.

A guy who was admittedly on very high wages was prepared to compromise to some degree and is still playing to a high standard. He could arguably still cope with Premier League football so is a worthwile investment in my eyes. Considering the other two left backs we have at the club, at least trying to keep Naysmith was a must!

The fact that he has been offered a more competitive contract by Huddersfield suggests that our offer was either derisory or deliberately destructive in order to offload him. If we cant offer a competitive salary to players like Naysmith then it makes you question our ability to sign adequate replacements. I know the so called "clappers" (not my phraseology; before anyone starts) will perceive this to be an impatient attack on the club but I dont really care. All I see is more lack of ambition and penny-pinching.

I am relieved that I didnt renew my season ticket. I respect the loyal supporters that continue to do so without fail but I feel they have been sold a dummy yet again. Particularly after all that talk at the fans' forum. United have a mountain to climb over the summer if they are to be even as good as last season. I sincerely hope my fears are without foundation and they prove me wrong. :(

Dear Lou,

Sorry that you will not be renewing your season ticket.

Presumably you will be transferring your allegiance to Huddersfield Town since they are clearly a go-ahead club, and it will enable you to watch Naysmith.

Why do folk get so touchy on here when you state an opinion? My statements weren't just about Naysmith Broomhill. Its the tip of the iceberg in relation to many woeful decisions being made by the club at the moment.

Who said anything about Huddersfield being a go-ahead club? It looks like the same people who dont like different opinions are the same people that like to put words in other peoples mouths. The fact that we have lost a decent player to a smaller club in the league below suggests that we are exactly the opposite of the phrase you used to describe Huddersfield (your words not mine).

I dont mind people challenging my posts. That is what a forum is all about. But sarcaism as you probably know, is considered the lowest form of wit.

I think it had more to do with the fact that they offered him a 2 year contract and, allegedly, we only offered him one year.

I'd just like to make one thing clear about the Naysmith deal. We were not beaten on salary. We offered more than Huddersfield but only 12 months with various caveats about games played/fitness. He is 32 in November, has hardly played for over a year and is coming back from a very bad injury. Huddersfield were prepared to take the risk of longevity which is why he has gone to them.

I have absolutely no doubt that the same people who are making un-substantiated and false claims about not being able to compete at the same financial level as Huddersfield would be the first to complain if we had given Naysmith a 3 year deal and he went and did his knee again in his second match and be out for another year. Personally, with memories of John Ebrell still lingering, I think it would have been unwise to offer Naysmith anything more. A shame, but it's a gamble we should let someone else take.

I think it had more to do with the fact that they offered him a 2 year contract and, allegedly, we only offered him one year.

I can see that being an issue which is understandable from his point of view. Having said that it would again suggest that we're too tight to commit financially to him. A one year contract for a player still at his peak is a little insulting in my view.

HOW DARE YOU QUESTION THE CLUB LIKE THAT? cALL YOURSELF A SUPPORTER???!

In response to yur questions/comments:

1) Naymsith is old and crocked. We have an adeuqte replacement in Taylor. We tried to keep him but ......he wanted to move a a bigger club (oh hang one)
2) He's had his chance at United. We'll get rid of a big wage earner and reinvest the cash (I priomise)
3) We tried to keep him but ...... SS wants to sign for us anyway. Oh hang on, maybe we can't afford him ....... we might be able to take him on a season long loan ...... that reminds me, there's alway the loan market
4) He's a qaulity player. It's nothing to do with his nationality. It will NOT pave the way for other strikers to leave (apart from maybe Sharp and Henderson .... and Camara doesn't count as he has already gone)
5) Monty, or I prefer to call him Didier Deschamps, Nobby Stiles or Claude Makalele (depending on what era you are from) is a fantastic singing.

We are still on for promotion. I call for all Blades fans to be patient. Have faith in the board. We've plenty of time. However the paly offs hampered ... oh hang on, the world cup is hampering our progress. We've plenty of time to sign players and if not there is always the loan market.

Oh and it's 14 contracted players you knocker!? Next thing you will be proposterously saying that we are a selling club! Outrageous!?

 despite the sarcaistic and depressing nature of that post it is probably my favourite one for some time. Made me chuckle a bit and kind of sums just about everything up :D

I don't know that losing Naysmith was a huge loss he only played in two matches last season. He is an older player and has just come through knee surgery with no guarantees that it will hold up.
If he was such a big prize why didn't another Championship club come in for him.

If this had happened last summer I would have been of exactly the same opinion. However, having had a season of watching Taylor, Stewart and Kallio "fighting" for the spot, I was looking forward to seeing Naysmith come back.
As with Kenny, if we sign someone BETTER it will have been a good deal, if we sign someone who doesn't look any better than Stewart and Taylor it will be a long old season for whoever is playing the left side of the centre alongside Morgan and for the poor bastards paying to watch it!

And there in a nutshell is the reason why some of us aren't all starry eyed about the chairman, the manager and the ambition shown by the club. It's as if we have no strategy other than to accept the first offer that comes in for our players, regardless of whether we've got cover or not and then all of a sudden, we're weeks/days away from the start of the season and we suddenly realise that we have no players, bar from the dregs that no one else wants.

McCabe seems quite content to let that happen, his performance in numerous transfer windows backs that up, and the manager obviously doesn't have the bollocks enough to try and make some kind of stand, either that or he's so thick that he thinks we'll get by with the kind of hoof merchants that he's likely to bring in.

Sheffield United, a club in decline, a club that'll one day simply waste away without ever really having tried to compete. What a shame for some of the best fans in the land, to see that for all our gusto and bravado we were let down by the powers that be who never really did have the back bone to take that gamble that just might have paid off.
