What must McCabe be thinking this evening?

I think McCabe's problem was he could not afford to invest the sums of money now required to keep a good Championship club going never mind a Premier league club but at the same time his heart was ruling his head and he couldn't let it go either. At tad sad it ended like it did but he shot himself in the foot, I do think we would have been doing the same as Norwich if he had won the court case. Kev wanted his money back and at least he will get most of it back now thanks to Chris Wilder but at the end of the day very few football club owners make money out of their play thing, any one with sense don't buy a football club and expect to make a profit.

We had a bumpy ride under Kev but he undoubtedly cared and ran the club within its and his means. Nothing wrong with that.

It's easier said than done considering he probably feels hard done to and rejected, but I hope he can enjoy it like the rest of us, without the pressure of having responsibility. Imagine seein him on the back of the kop loving it?!

Isn't there a statutory pay out for winning promotion to the Prem. I seem to recall reading somewhere that it's in the region of £130m - 50% payable at the end of Dec 2019 and the remainder at the end of the 19/20 season. This would explain where the dosh has come from, irrespective of the Prince's personal coffers.

Given he was still with us when he was kicking up a fuss about the Mousset and McBurnie deals, I think we have a good idea of how it would have been spent had he had a say – a fraction would have been available. Contrast the willingness of The Prince to get Wilder the players he’s wanted with those to and Berge versus McCabe’s unwillingness to pay the money Cardiff wanted for Jerome, or that Preston wanted for Nugent.

There are instances where McCabe‘s stinginess was well founded. His unhappiness with the Clough spending 5 years ago, and on Brayford in particular, turned out to be fair enough and not good sense financially. So I’ll give him that on that very specific occasion. I suspect though that McCabe will be sitting back predicting to whoever’s nearby that there will be doom from spending crazy money.

In spite of my comment in this thread about McCabe's character, people ought to remember that it can take years before you can judge a chairman. Right now we're a Prem club and there's money in the bank and always people willing to lend but the financial policies will prove themselves one way or the other over the long haul and not a single transfer window.

Absolutely agree, no constructive comparison can be carried out now. If in 5 or 10 years time we are saddled with 50+million pounds worth of debt, we'll know who the better owner was. There will still be people who will claim McCabe was cheap or kept the money for himself.

I don't want to start some sort of McCabe bashing thread in posting this, we all have differing opinions on what he brought to the table after all don't we. Regardless of whatever has gone on over the years, I think we have to focus on the here and now.

But, I genuine wonder what McCabes thoughts are this evening?

Forgive me for being a bit sinister, but that £22m that we splashed today and Sander Berge.....based on previous exploits? I genuinely feel that had McCabe won the court case, I don't think we would have been given a total budget that even meets the amount spent today.....In fact I am pretty adamant of that fact!...... Instead, i would have been a "I've given Chris a generous budget to work with based on where we are currently at....we don't need to spend mass amounts, all we need to do is bring in some young, hungry players on loan from Premier League clubs....players who are on the fringe of playing in this league"..

I would like to think that McCabe is sitting back this evening and thinking "I would have been out of my depth".... It's nothing personal, but this is the calibre of player that we need in order to aid in securing top flight football and to take us forwards. I do not think he had the ambition or war chest to bankroll it.

I think that as with some players, our progress under CW/AK has outgrown McCabe's war chest, ambition and knowledge of foreign football.
I don't say that as a particular criticism but fact.
I reckon that the current 3 new prospects have been suggested by Van Winckel through his knowledge and approved by CW.
All this because of our new ownership and vision that McCabe just didn't have.
For his sake I hope KMcC receives enough payment to find some sort of closure and hope for all of us that eventually he has found an owner that will take the club forward.

He's cautious . We didn't have the money in the account then. They don't roll up with a skip full of cash the Monday after we get promoted. Don't forget he's spent 20 years nearly working with a 5 m a year loss at best. He always supported the managers with some cash. He just employed some dummies who wasted a lot . Wasn't the first won't be the last chairman to do that

The difference between the two in my opinion is that the Prince seems to have a plan.
A short, medium and long term plan.
He is allowing his manager to manage by investing in young players with potential. If 50% of them succeed he should get his money back.
McCabe never seemed to have a plan, lurching from one manager to another, ok some on paper should have been good, but how much money did they have to spend; how many players were seemingly sold from under their noses. How many times did he make the wrong decisions then blame the other party?
How many people would have appointed Robson, Adams, sacked Wilson after a bad run of results, kept Blackwell after he offered to resign only to get rid early in the new season.
We have a new owner who is at the moment steering us on a sound business course, his metal will only truly be tested in times of adversity, which will come but for now lets reap the rewards of wilders management, Knills coaching and the board and management teams stewardship.

I am just so pleased that for virtually the first time since I started watching in 1958 we are actually buying from a position of strength when so often the club has thought the team could manage with what they had got and never really kicked on. All these recent signings are young and can improve, if they really want to, and we are not buying players who are at the end of their careers or have a history of injuries.
