Not seen any of the Quinn knockers on here recently. He's played very well since we took a lot of the long ball out of our game. I was at the QPR game and I thought he had another good game with another great assist for Wards goal. Quality player IMO.

Quinn knockers? Do you really think we take A gratuitous delight in criticising our own players? Every word of criticism has been richly deserved. He has played very poorly, specialising in his unique 'elpiton' tricks and generally treating the ball as a hand grenade. How he has kept his place in the team is a mystery only our daft manager can answer.

Sure he's improved a bit recently but has a lot of ineptitude to make up for yet.

For 'Quinn knockers' read Blades who want a better team playing some decent football.

If ever there was a premature gloat.....

Not gloating. Just wondered why the Blades who want better football as you put it, never come and say how well he 's played. I guess most of em' are just waiting until the lad has a bad game or see him put his hands on his head a few times before they post about him. Some are quick to criticize but slow to give praise when its due. And Yes I do think there are some who take delight in being critical of certain players. There's one that sits near me who goes just to pull players to bits week in week out. He makes your Bollocks ache the moaning fat git. I'd gamble he's never played football in his life. I'll stick to what I said about Quinny. Over the past few games when we have played it on the floor more he's been as good as any other United player.

ok, lets be truthful, i think the lad has had three good games in the last few matches, there ive said it, but, hes had about 140 bad ones prior to this

If Stephen Quinn was as bad as Pinchy and his ilk made out, he wouldn't be playing the game at professional level.
In answer to Pinchy's "Do you really think we take A gratuitous delight in criticising our own players?", it has to be a resounding 'yes'. If your posts gave praise and criticism in equal amounts, it would be a 'no', but the vast majority of your offerings on the message boards I've seen you contribute to over the years leaves me thinking you only take delight in stinging and sarcastic mud slinging at individual players.
I look forward to a nice positive post praising some aspect of our club one day...Don't disappoint Dave! :-)

Willie - I haven't contributed to any Quinn knocking - but although it's fair to say he's picked up his game a bit recently, he's one of those players that must have photo's of the manager in a massage parlour.

How he's played so many games for us in spite of endless nothing performances is beyond me. When played alongside Monty, it typifies everything about Blackwell's boring style. No craft, just guile (that bit's not a criticism of either player, it's just a rubbish partnership IMHO).

It's great to see his game pick up (though I definitely don't see what you do), but let's not kid ourselves that any criticism he's hasn't been more than deserved.

Why all this interest in Quinn's watch? What kind of watch does he wear?

My guess is a fake Rolex but fear it may be one of those kids' Mickey Mouse ones.

I would never let you down Fritter. Long time no argue!

My recent positives include Cresswell, Harper, Williamson, Ward, Hendo and Walker.

It's no secret (to say the least) that I believe Monty and Quinn to be a woefully weak central midfield pairing but that's because I see them routinely outpassed and outplayed by half-decent opponents. I want better and would replace the pair of them with Harper and Williamson. It's not because I dislike either lad - each of them, especially Monty, has admirable qualities.

I've stressed many times that I reserve my criticisms for the written word. I back all the players avidly on match days; The gratuitous knockers don't.

Back to the positives:

K-Mac is the best chairman in my time by a mile.

Blackwell did well to sell the unreliable Cotterill. If he brings in a superior player in Yeates for less money I'll applaud him. Marcel Siep looks to be a very good acquisition.

I'm glad we've acquired the services of Trevor Birch.

I think we'll win today!

It certainly is a while since we crossed swords Pinchy! But ...your reply certainly hasn't let me down and I always know behind your tongue in cheek (but honest opinions) is someone who holds some knowledgable views on the game and our club.
Maybe it is me who has a blind spot for your positives? :)

If (and it is a big 'if') we get some of the names bandied around into the club before the end of January, i reckon we can at least get into the play offs and maybe even catch the two current incumbents of the top places.
But i fear there will one or two hurtful departures to facilitate the arrivals?

If the game goes ahead (the pitch must be resembling a lake?) I am hopeful of a win, we have enough (fit) alternatives now to play the game according to the conditions and how the opposition set up. A bit of passing and some more direct stuff should mix it up nicely.

I would never wish to insult anyone but if you think Stephen Quinn is a "Quality player", then either you are a) very very young, b) have not been to many games or c) have been smoking some funny smelling ciggies.

True his game has picked up a little recently but that was from a very low base indeed. Trying watching him today and see how often he is the last Blades player to touch the ball in a move. I can't help myself but do this every week and it is unbelievable.

I honestly hope he proves me wrong but if he hasn't done it by know I don't think he will.

Credit where credits due, Quinny played very well today, especially second half.

LOL - well done Quinny. Very well played, second half especially.

By the way do we know what happened to Keith Quinn? He was rated last i heard (which was a while ago mind you)

I agree. The lad did very well today. Well done.

Harpo was the key figure. We are beginning to see glimpses of his Reading excellence.

(a) I'm old enough to have seen TC make his debut and even play against some of his team mates(b) I'm a season ticket holder and have watched United since the late 50s my first game as a kid in 1949. (c) I've never smoked in my life. Thats your sarcastic inuendoes delt with.
What I have done is play football at a decent level and semi pro football in my younger days. I credit myself with having a little knowledge about the game. Not as much as some but a lot more than some would be managers on here. I will reiterate, Quinny deserves his place in the team and was MOM on Saturday IMO and you don't play at international level if you are not a Quality player. You may be right in your opinion and know more than Blackwell
and other qualified coaches.(There again you could be wrong);)

Why, what country has Stephen Quinn played for?

As far as I am aware he is uncappred for EIRE.

Edit: Even if he had been capped, it still doesn't make him a quality player, look at some of the dross that has been capped for England in the past.

Stephen was called up by the Republic of Ireland for the first time as part of the senior squad to face San Marino in the Euro 2008 qualifier at the Serravalle Stadium on Wednesday, February 4, 2007.

He made his U-21 international debut in the 1-0 loss against Holland in Venlo on March 27.[6] Stephen scored his first international goal in a 3-2 victory against Sweden U-21 in October 2007.[7]

Here you go Robbie. As I said Quality!!;)

Fair do's Willie, no upset intended:(

Quinny did play well on saturday (as I acknowledged after the match on here). However generally I believe (and everyone around my seat on the Kop agrees), that he has been poor this season. He gives the ball away far too often for me to describe him as a "quality player". (Maybe we have different definitions of what a quality player is though). I can't accept your assertion that anyone who plays at International level though is "a quality player", what about tiny countries like Malta, Fiji or the RoI? some of these players are distincly average/poor by comparison to teams and players we watch here. I may not know more than Blackwell, or you for that matter, but Tony Currie was famously descibed as "a quality player" on MoTD once and Stephen Quinn ain't no Tony Currie. (okay, maybe I'm setting the bar a bit too high there:D.

So as I suspected, he hasn't played even a solitary minute at full level for his country.

The last time he was called up (and not played against minnows San Marino) was nearly 3 years since (under a clueless manager in Staunton).... does that not tell you something about his performances since then?

Again, I must re-iterate, I think he has something about him. But he is not producing on anything near a consistent basis.

There ain't too many T.C.s knocking about in any era's. There again T.C had some poor games especially when he was man marked. He never had a good game against Mick Doyle of Man City. I'm in the kop and there were a lot saying Quinny was the best United player on Sat. He gave one bad pass on Sat and it caused a moan and in comparison Kyle Walker made a few bad ones and not a murmur. I think Quinny is unfairly treated by some at times.
