What happened to Keith Edwards?

If he left Radio Sheffield I hope it was his decision. Loved listening to his insightfull and brutally honest commentaries. If Radio Sheffield got rid then they want boycotting especially as their football commentaries consist of bukkake sessions over the pigs.

Extra credibility for the first use of ‘bukkake’ on this forum, and in context, spot on mate.

I think it was the 4-0 win v Bristol Rovers in April 1984. A sublime bit of skill and thinking that Tony Pritchett described as a fluke.
He described it as “his 39th goal of the season - and probably his easiest”.

Revolution Sr won the 5 pound Green Un star letter, saying Pritchett was wrong and Edwards had done what Pele couldn’t in 1970.

Yes and he appeared on a Yorkshire TV football special on the Friday night, the night before the Newport game, sporting the black eye he'd obtained at Bolton. George Kerr was also a guest and suggested that Sheff United went to church on Sunday morning and prayed (that results went our way). I can't imagine Iliman Ndiaye being a guest on a TV show the night before the Birmingham game!

I see him and have a chat, mainly about the Blades, with him in Graves Park occasionally when we're both walking our dogs. (his is called Millie)
Last time I saw him he said he wasn't working so doesn't surprise me he's now working at the hospital.

He was very much working on the lorries pretty recently.

Bumped into Keith a couple of weeks ago and chatted for 10 mins. Top man then top man now, definitely his decision not to commentate said he really likes doing it but during covid when he was driving all week then came Saturday and if it was for instance..Brighton away, that meant after driving a lorry all week a drive to Brighton wasn't ideal especially as he had to make his own way etc. As doing the home games he enjoyed the commentary bit but getting to Lane for noon with all the pre match stuff etc maybe he just likes to turn up for the game now just like us? Not lorry driving now and like someone stated earlier he's a hospital porter which he really enjoys. Love him ..what a goalscorer..what a legend.

To quash a few myths about Keith who I know very well and have the odd pint with him.
Yes, he's a lorry driver and has been for years, but not self employed, so HE does not charge a 'premium'.
His first hip operation didn't go so well, so he had to have it done again.. He still struggles with it and had to pack in golf as a result.
The fee he was paid by RS for commentary wasn't worth the time and effort, i.e. travelling to Bristol on a Tuesday night was not a viable option when you have to knock off early ! Only paid for the commentary, not the time travelling (6 hours).
He's happily 'unmarried'.

Who’d have guessed that?

Still my boyhood hero tho!!

It was genius.

I don't remember many goals, but I remember that one. Absolute quality.
Yep. As I remember it...

A long ball down the left wing which Edwards chases. With a defender close on his heels. The goalie comes to edge of the box and all 3 are about to converge. Edwards gets to the ball first and moves as if to knock it to the goalies left. In fact, he doesn't touch the ball, it carries on to the goalies right and Edwards sweeps round the goalies left. In the confusion, defender and goalie collide, leaving Edwards to trot to the now almost stationary ball and knock into the empty net.

That's a shame about his hip. Give him our best regards, and please don't pass on messages from the ill-informed dimwits who posted on this thread.

Had quite a long chat with King Keith in Graves Park this afternoon whilst we were both walking our dogs. Keith was due to have a second hip operation a few months ago but had a heart attack and has had a double by-pass operation. He's fine now, but obviously lucky it was caught in time. He's still waiting to have the hip operation.

As previously reported, he's not lorry driving anymore and it was his decision to give up the commentary, which he loved but wasn't worth the hassle for the money it paid. He's now working at Claremont 3 days a week and says he really likes it. Lives at Owlthorpe these days and although is still a member at Lees Hall Golf Club, he's had to pack in playing.

Good to see him fit and healthy.

I get the impression he's not got a lot of cash and I think he could make a few bob maybe doing a few after dinner spots. It would be nice if the club did something as he never got a testimonial presumably because he wasn't on our books for 10 years.

Yeah, he should do some after dinner speaking.

Interesting he decided to pack in the RS stuff. Although I am surprised he hasn't been invited to do a bit of SUTV.
