What do we do with Clarke ?

Rather than start a new 'snowflake' thread I'll stick my thoughts about Clarke on here.

Beginning think we might have bought another Crocked player! Is the foot injury more long term than first thought?

Appearances even from bench limited. Performances nothing to rave about.

CW obviously thinks we lack muscle and areil ability up front, he even pushed EEL up front for later parts of Gillingham game.

Now we've bought Hanson it might suggest he can't see Clarke being a regular for the run in.

Just sayin!

Well the signing of Hanson, in all probability, shoves Mr Clarke even further down the pecking order.

And I am extremely suspicious of the non specific non disclosed injury of the player picked up so close to a game he should have featured in when the end of the JTW is around the corner.

Understandable how peeps were excited about the signing at the time. His PRIOR record in this division is good. No doubt. But a player can only live on past glories for so long and your only as good as your next game.

But the conclusion based on everything I have seen is that he has been gash. Utter gash. And has been since day 1. Was never ever going to work here for reasons I have previously stated.

So in answer to the OP, Wilder should bin him off as soon as is practically possible. And having spoken to the man personally about this very subject, I have my doubts he will do it. But that was pre Hanson, so the goal posts may have changed / may not have changed !

And as regards the OPs ( and dozens of other ill informed fans) assertion that a big tall strong target man up top being an absolute necessity for success in L1 ....

Don't get me started ;)

...and Bratfud fans state Hanson has ongoing injuries that have hampered his season, which is a worry...perhaps we're going to alternate?

If you don't have a good one in Division 3 it will reduce your chances significantly !!

Tell that to Matt Done, Billy Sharp and all the other man beasts we have used up front to be top of the league and one of the highest scorers in Europe !!!

Useful ? No doubt in the right circumstances.

An absolute necessity ?????

Absolutely not.

I honestly believe that we will eventually miss out on promotion without one, agree to disagree !!

so lets get this straight , unless a forward scores every other game for us

we get shot as they are inadequate

very progressive thinking

More ammo for Pinchy in his one man crusade against Done (and the 'S2 hoof' straw men).

The masochist in me slightly yearns to see us 0-1 down in a match with 10 mins to go just for the absolute beast-fest of Clarke, Hanson and Eel in a 3 pronged attack with Fleck, Coutts, Duffy et al pinging in precision long balls. Obviously we need to be 10 points clear of 3rd place before this little episode of shits and giggles takes place.

Paramedic!

Ambulance........quickly please!!!!!

Pinchy has gone all red in the face and is writhing around on the floor. I think it is a triple heart attack with a special 'Monty' thromby thrown in.

I agree with Wilder's comments, get Clarke fully fit and watch him fire

Did Wigan and Burton need one last year ?

Bristol C and MK Dons the year before that ?

Absolute necessity ??????????????

Of all the S2 myths that permeate out of the stands of BDTBL, this one is my absolute favourite.

I would love to see him stay, so many seasons de-railed from losing our top striker, if Billy got injured I think Clarke is the best option.

I would also agree that Billy & him haven't worked but we need him has back-up or to give Billy a rest.

We are in danger of becoming a 'one trick pony' and Wilder knows it,we need to be able to change things when the situation demands it.

Teams are coming and sitting back with 2 banks of 4 and at time 2 banksa of 5

No shame in mixing it up with the occasional headable ball thrown in
Im sure Ive seen Europes best using big lads up front
Van Nistelrooy , Toshack ,Alan Smith , etc werent actually nimble footed
When we won the world cup in 66 dont remember an outcry for dropping Geoff Hurst as wed be using hoof tactics

How mny world cups have we won since 66 with pure football

We're going to use the decent bits from each to make a Frankenfootballer ;)

my first memories as a blade are headed goals from mick jones and alan birchenall
no one can tell me that putting high balls in the box wasnt intended

can any one in here tell me any team that dont try , or have tried using a big lad up front

Hindon was never really a footballer if were honest with ourselves though was he.

I know Hanson is uniquely strong in the air but we should have only signed him if Clarke was leaving, and that's why I thought we signed him. I would've been in favour of that too - if one of them is to be an impact sub, I'd choose Hanson.

In signing Hanson in addition to Clarke we've prevented ourselves from signing a centre half or a wide player in favour of having 6 strikers.

Clarke's 'injury' issues are getting tiresome now. I was sure he was left out on Saturday because he was leaving.

I think Hanson and Clarke could work at least as well as Hanson and Sharp btw. Clarke's quicker than Sharp.

The quickest Ive seen Clarke move since he signed for us was when the Coventry fans invaded the pitch ,he shit himself left his 'mates' and shot down that tunnel with all the pace he hasn't used in a game.
That cameo said everything to me about Clarke. the only player I wouldn't be bothered if he left.

He's never been happy being out of the team at any of his former clubs, and I worry that potentially being 6th choice now will not go down well at all, and could cause disruption.

He's still a decent player – just unsuited to our style of play. I'd be happy to see him loaned to a club that still has to play Bolton & Scunthorpe. Chesterfield for example have away games with both.

Direct competition (or ready-made replacements) now for each of the types of striker we've got?

Big man: Hanson/Clarke

Goalscorer: Sharp/McNulty

Ratter: Lavery/Done
