...we're going into next season. The next time any pig fan goes on about Division One being a 'pub league' or 'mind the gap' they should remember what shit they've been surrounded by. Brighton - lost, Reading - lost, Leeds - lost, Huddersfield - lost.

I sensed at the Bradford game last Monday that the team had presented CW with a unique dilemma. Our team, with a few minor tweaks, are more than good enough to more than finish in the top half next season.

I've been watching a fair amount of Championship football over the past week. I have concluded the following:
  • The pace of football is faster
  • The final ball is better
  • Teams pass and move more
I would predict a 16-19th finish with the current squad. We will need to adjust quickly and boost the squad with a centre-back and a centre-forward. I think our midfield is good enough to compete already.

I want to argue with you , but you are correct
we have the team to compete even before we strengthen , which we will

The Championship is full off delusionals and bottlers. A 'last chance saloon' for managers like Paul Lambert, Mick McCarthy etc. Wendy have seriously overspent to get out of that division on players who won't last 5 minutes in the Premier.

I'm a tad more optimistic than that. Burton are very limited an have stayed up. We're a much better team than them in my view. I think as it stands now we'd be around 10th-15th. With three or four quality additions I think we will be really competing for the play offs.

No longer the big fish in the pond, we will face a lot of opponents with a different mind-set. The players who can meet that challenge with the same confidence, grit and determination they have shown this season will do ok.

There has been no passengers and I believe those in the first team have earned the right to be in the squad for next season. Chris Wilder has some difficult decisions on the rest and who to bring in. Maintaining the team-spirit and harmony shown this season will be a tough task, I feel.

We will need some pace adding to the squad, also we won't be able to push forward from midfield as much, someone will have to take responsibility to be the holding player.

Birmingham have struggled after signing a player who couldn't get in our team. The championship is very poor. Chris will work his magic again because that's what he does.

I can't see relegation next season. Surely Burton can't survive and Barnsley will do well to avoid the drop too. It's possible Bolton could struggle too.

It's a very bad league this season. Bit it'll be much better next season, and not only because we're in it.

There's at least 6 teams with lots of money who have massively under performed this year.

Totally agree. Its been really frustrating as Wednesday have now made the play offs because it such an average league at the top end, in comparison to previous seasons. Still a very tough league but Derby and Villa have really under achieved.

Wouldn't disagree with most of that. The Championship is definitely a faster league with a bit more quality. I also think the average Champ player looks more physically poweful than their league 1 equivalent.

Think this squad could scrape top half with another striker, CB and some pace.

No longer being the big fish in the pond should work in our favour.

We'll not be the team every other team wants to beat, and the Lane won't be their cup final venue.

The Championship this season proves a good manager is far far more important than pots of cash.

Look at Birmingham before and after Rowett left. The performance of the Dingles and the fact Huddersfield are above the pigs despite them spunking stupid money up the wall on any striker that's scored a goal.

Gives you a lot of comfort that, as I think Wilder is as good as any manager around, there's no manager I'd rather have anywhere really.

The Championship has been a bag o shite this season full of weak-willed teams and poor weak minded managers. It's hard to pick a team that has really stood out and even the top two have been iffy at times.

Of course the Pork will says it's because of the general high standards totally forgetting that teams like Preston, Burton and Barnsley have all competed this season on smaller budgets than we'll have.

It's a very bad league this season. But it'll be much better next season, and not only because we're in it.

It's incredible that two probable playoff teams have such poor goal differences:
Reading = 1
Huddersfield = 2

I have started this about who where and what we need a few times. In the end I am going to leave it to Chris, Alan and the rest.

I hope Birmingham, Che Adams and Arry Redknapp go down. Can't see Blackburn getting the points though

So making 41 appearances last season is a player that can't get in our team?

My biggest concern is that we haven't signed many players with a long term view, they were very much signed with this season in mind.

Now there is nothing wrong with that as it's got us out of League One, but personally I think the squad needs a lot of work to get us to a 10th - 14th team.

People point to Barnsley as an example of being able to do well after promotion, but they came up with a young first team whereas ours has a high average age.

We have more team spirit than any team in that league and while that alone is far from enough it will grab us vital points,a few quality signings, the momentum from present and the famous shoreham roar we will be ok

Don't quite get this
We will still be one of the Championships best supported clubs,
Of the clubs coming down only Sunderland will get higher attendances,
Villa will and Derby will probably

Leeds will have to be near the top of the League all season to better us, and Norwich will get their 26000 every week which will be similar to a relegation threatened Sheffield United. If United do ok crowds will be higher than that

Nottm Forest can barely get 20000 and if that shower from up the road don't go up in the play offs they'll disappear just as quickly as they've jumped on their deluded bandwagon

As for the team, Wilder will have his targets for improvement in his mind and I think most of them will be the very best from the League we've just left. Realistically priced players on their way up who will be delighted to be given their chance at a higher level with a big club

Moore, O'Connell, Fleck, Carruthers, Lavery. All bought with the future in mind and all still young.

I wouldn't worry.

Amazing aren't they

I met up with three mates yesterday morning in Chapeltown.

The words on that grid were exactly the things they were saying, much to the amusement of the total strangers that were sat around.

I asked for any of them to put their money where their mouth is

I said at the top of my voice so that all the strangers could hear as well "I'll bet anybody in this room £500 that United do not get relegated

Guess what ?
No takers

Full of shit and panic, all of them
