must be without ,no tears here. Shame youve gone too far over because i used to enjoy your posts ,although you need to check your research ,nobody was more anti Blackwell than me when he was manager. As for your new found foghorn disciples ,fuck me :(
I'll pass on that one Sitters - Just keep it to friendly banter on here if you don't mind!

I'm not sure how it all works either but based on those figures, the 660k would roughly free up 12,700 a week wages, plus whatever Blackman was on, plus the supposed money McCabe said was available regardless.....please point out any corrections I'm merely speculating like yourself.

However taking all that into account.....we could only afford a loan player and a contract to the end of the season?! Wow.....those two must be on a lot of money!

Don't forget we apparently offered £400K for Dundee United's Johnny Russell:-

We didn't get him of course, so the wage we set aside for him must still be available to Wilson in the loan market.
I for one am almost giddy with excitement wondering who we're going to bring in.

Well there is a guy at West Brom who wants to get away and er is a striker.:)

Shredds, reading your blog you say:

"wait and see the state of the squad versus Coventry City on Friday before hammering your keyboards or opening your mouth."

Are you going to do a post-deadline verdict? I've not had an Alco style inversion, but I cannot defend McCabe's counterproductive pronouncements, or the strategy that this window revealed.

No stirrings of discontent? Not even a twitch? :)

I might have calmed down sufficiently by next weekend to write something and having met me you know I am a reasonably placid and balanced bloke!

Terrific stuff. It's really worth sending that to the club as it covers just about every salient issue on the go just now.
A superb resume of where we are / where we are going - Top Stuff
A must read for McCabe & Co, Wilson and anyone to do with the management (very loose term indeed) of Sheffield United Football Club!

I tend to think that that "offer" was a "propaganda" offer if it happened at all

Swansea a decade ago had to beat Hull on the last day to stay in div 4 and the league set up , this month they play in the league cup final as favourites over bradford , then probably take the trophy back to their brand new stadium to show off in their next premier league game, just shows anything can change in football ,and Man City sneaked into the division one play offs , and came from 2-0 down against Gillingham with 87 minutes gone in the final , so perhaps theres chance we might not be the first club to have a low ebb , who knows what lays ahead, I wonder if both sets of those 2 clubs fans were as negative as we seem to be

How old are you, seriously?

When you have put up with the shit us oldies have (in my case since the mid 1960's) what gets me is this.
It doesn't care who the chairman is, the manager, the players, the club always bugger it up at the final hurdle. If it were SUFC v Bradford, Bradford would win. I say that not as a knocker but hell when, ever have SUFC delivered when it mattered?

Most of our promotions have been reasonably earned. I don't recall a flukey promotion though getting up at Hull's expense based on their inability to score another goal at Turf Moor was close. Relegations - fuck me. Nearly everyone has been a bloody fluke - Chelsea, Wigan, Walsall it goes on. Don't start me on play offs, cup semis etc.

It's this CONTINUAL failure that pisses me off. Nothing else. I love the Blades with a passion but boy am I fed up with mediocrity that some on here just love to relish in.

When United actually win something I might think this horrendous under achieving will end. Unitil that day we will, outside of S2, be a joke club that has no bottle. To illustrate I remember years ago joshing with a Brighton fan, who of course took Man U to a FA Cup final replay. His withering comment then was the nearest United had got to Wembley in recent times was seeing it on the Underground map! OK since then we've had 3 play off visits but I think you'll get the sentiment.

So if I have a plea, it is to see an end to this perenial failure.

Why is a Brighton fan taking the piss when they've never won anything?

Maybe like rest of the footballing world they see us as the largest supported under achieving perennial bottlers on the planet.

Sounds like you as you can't even get the bottle to go to matches. It's shit for all of us but doesn't mean we stop going

I think it was that they had got to a cup final, even taken Man U to a replay and like most people then (pre-PL) saw things as pre-WWII and post WWII. Nowadays it is probaly Pre-WWII, post WWII but pre PL and post PL. All aided by Sky.:)

come on get serious

what are we ever likely to win

footballs changed no money = no goodey

see us win something , like what ?

promotion yes can do that , and have done ,a play off final win , we will do , one day

but the prem , arsenal and liverpool cant do that now
the fa cup , top 4 or lunatic club over spending by 300 million can win that
league cup , who cares

the things we have achieved , 8/9 promotions in my life are the zenith of what we can achieve
unless we get an oil baron in charge

to expect much else is like expecting to win 28 million on the euro lottery

Im consigned myself to the belief we are now at best , a good championship top ten contender, on a good day, I think realism needs to pervade the minds of others who still think we are a top division club being held back by a mad chairman , instead of accepting the reality of it all

In a few weeks time either Bradford City or Swansea will win the Capital One Cup (League Cup) - that's what football is about

Football in general has sold it's soul to the devil - it is reaping what it sows!
Forget Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool with obscene wage structures, huge transfer fees, foreign owners and now an army of foreign managers/coaches - It is now happening in the Championship!
Nottingham Forest, Blackburn and the likes are going down the same sleazy road!
OK Swansea have now got a foreign manager in Laudrup but only after Rodgers chased the dosh and the bright lights of Liverpool!

no swansea will win it , money spent will prevail

we can in theory reach a league cup final , if we win 3 penalty shoot outs against prem teams playing full reserve sides , but who cares about the league cup , its shite , has been for years

thats why only 3000 turn up for top games in it

theres very little to actually win, title , man utd and a select few got that sewn up
champions league 5 /7 clubs with any sort of a sniff
fa cup , again 5/7 clubs now can realistically take it of Chelsea

no the odd promotions all we have , but its the same for 84 other clubs

I think Ian Holloway was spot on about Watford's sudden rise to promotion contenders and it is something other teams will pick up on. You can loan unlimited overseas players I think he said they had nine in the starting line up against Palace virtually the Udinese reserve team which is great for Udinese and a cheap way to get a good team for Watford but not so good for young English players trying to get a game. The foreigners are killing the game in this country in more ways than one.

all those who knock our lack of ability to sign players , there was a nugget of information that puts it in perspective
fact , during the january window , of the 72 league clubs only 4 players were bought for a fee, 3 by clubs with parachute money and 1 by gillingham , an undisclosed fee , thought to be around 50-75 k

so theres really not a lot of money changing hands outside the greedy halls of the prem

OK i'll keep it simple.
- a play off final
- going up to the PL as champions
- the JTP trophy.

Not the same as FA Cup/L Cup, but a darn sight better than to date!

but thats what we have won , promotion , thats my point
play offs is finishing 3rd to 6th in a lower division

and name the last 5 winners of the jpt without using google
I know I cant , know chesterfield won it, did them a world of good
