What’s happened to Ched?

Is he just going to sit around in the John Ebbrell memorial medical room picking up a salary for three seasons?

We never did get round to sorting that statue of John Ebbrell’s ankle to adorn the medical room.

What a sorry chapter this has been in our history. Another corker of a decision from King Kev..

I'd love to see the lad come good but I think a few are, and have been, incredibly blinkered with regard to Ched.

He was a cheapish gamble by Championship standards, a player who knew the club and was desperate to get back and prove himself.

Tearing the place up and being a regular first choice was always more unlikely than likely.

Sadly fast running out of time here and I'm beginning to wonder for the sake of his career if he'd be better dropping down sooner rather than later to try and get games and goals.

Another year doing nothing here will hardly make him an attractive proposition.

People over hyped him to Mother Theresa proportions & unless he came back with 20 goals. Anything was going to be big disappointment. Which was highly likely considering that after the 1st few scoring spell. He didnt get many in league 2

James Shield asked about this at the weekend. Wilder’s response:

“Ched had a little bit of a set-back. It’s been a real difficult season for him.

“We recognise, really, we are looking next year now for Ched. But if we need him, you know he’s going to stick his hand up and get out there. He’s had a few set-backs along the way which is disappointing for him, but if Ched does have a part to play, I know he’ll play it well.

“It’s not been an ideal situation,” Wilder acknowledged. “But it’s one we have faith in that, if he does stay fit and with a bit of luck, he’s got a big role to play here going forward.”

I assume that Wilder means “next season” rather than “next year”. Though I won’t be at all surprised if come September “next year” becomes the target...

For those complaining about the money spent again:

1. His wages are low as they are performance related
2. The transfer fee was no-where near 500k but will reach that amount if certain conditions are met
3. We were heading out of the league cup against Walsall before he came on to win the match for us. That victory gave us prize money, another round with a decent gate against Leicester, as well as television revenue from Sky. All that in total probably paid off most of his costs for this year.
4. The matches in the League Cup were also invaluable experience for our team and a morale boost putting them in good stead for the rest of the season
5. Even if he doesn't play again this season he (and other squad players) has still contributed to its success. Wilder says he's had a fantastic attitude and applies himself well in training ensuring that all the other players in his position are on kept on their toes whilst providing good practice for our defenders to face.
6. Most importantly the transfer annoyed Jean Hatchett. Therefore it is worth it
