What’s happened to Ched?

When I was at school, after returning after the summer holidays I always struggled to write more than a couple of paragraphs as my hand ached and my creative juices just didn't flow. Ched is suffering in the same way through his enforced break. In the cameo performances I've seen from him since his return he's resembled Joe Ironside - a willing trier but doesn't appear to have football brain or the stamina to cut it.

Not what we need.

He’s way off the pace of the game, and could be an impact sub at best but is already behind players who have done it his season.

I want us to strengthen the forward line in the summer, at least one but hopefully two quality strikers to bury the sill number of good chances we Keep missing.
On that basis, strikers would be out of the door in order of Ched- Clayton- Sharp/Clarke to accommodate their replacements

I expect him to leave in the summer, probably on loan to L1 until January. He can't be wasting any more time now.

Aye think you're right. It hasn't yet worked out and I think he has to hope he gets another chance this season or he starts pre-season injury free and scores goals in pre season. Wilder will bring in at least two forwards this summer I reckon. Donaldson and Wilson will probably go and that leaves us with 3 forwards so we need at least one more, but Ched needs game time. Wish he'd gone out on loan in January now to see how he would do. It looks bleak now for Ched at United. I still hope he does it but times fast running out.

Retaining Hanson and Lavery then?

Personally the only logic I could think of to justify his signing was we weren't sure whether we'd be in a relegation dog fight come this time of the year and Tufty wanted some wise old heads around in case things started to go sour as our first season in the Championship got tough.

As it turned out, we're at the pointy end of the League and what we need is energy, pace and vitality in the last 6 games.

His signing was focusing on a transition period we've thankfully just bypassed.

He'll be at a League One/lower Chsmpionship side come the Summer and we can put this divisive Cnut well and truly behind us.

it cant be easy being forced out of the game for 4 years then trying to catch up
Fitness alone is going to take some considerable working on , and string of niggling injuries have stopped any progress in that regard.
He does seem destined to be one of fates big losers,

He was never guilty of the charge , just guilty of pandering to urges, and hes not alone in that but has paid a hefty cost for it

Give him a good pre-season. If he comes through injury free and is looking a player again, then give him until the JTW and make a final decision then.

More likely there was some kind of agreement between McCabe and Evans that McCabe wanted to honour.
Doubt there was a huge amount of football logic involved.

Waste of a space in the squad and whatever wage is paid. Always had the feel of a deal done behind the scenes rather than an upfront signing for a footballing reason. It didn't fit the mould as either a signing of the best of League 1 or signing one for the future. However, if it was a CW inspired signing on the basis of a hopeful punt on a cheap option, then he got it wrong. Some ya win and some ya loyse.

Genuine question: What do people think he can add?

I'm honestly not sure what his strength as a footballer is. If I think about all the strikers who have featured for us this season you can name a key strength:

Clarke: Big physical presence, uses his size and relative pace to press defenders into making mistakes, good finisher when confident.
Sharp: A goal poacher, a true natural finisher.
Donaldson: Seriously strong, athletic and experienced striker.
Wilson: Truly believes he is amazing.... on Man Utds books so must be......
Hanson: Reyt big lad, old school target man.
Lavery: quick, can carry the ball.
Brooks: (not an out and out striker) Incredible first touch, carries the ball at his feet as well as anyone I've seen play for the club.
Evans: erm, scored a load in league 1 years ago.. He's great at.......

Foody
Evans like Clarke but hit(s) the ball better. You'll see it if he ever gets fit.

I think it’s worth revisiting the Ipswich post match threads. I think anyone who was so strongly defending his performance (I saw the word excellent being thrown around) has been made to look foolish by the fact he hasn’t made the squad since. I think Ipswich was his last chance to prove his worth, he was ineffective and that is the last he will be seen in a blades shirt.

Sorry mate, if he's injured (as suggested elsewhere) then your statement is just utter rubbish.

Suggested elsewhere. No evidence, just more excuse-making. As there will be until the day we finally release him (and probably afterward actually)

well he was seen with Duffy, also injured so somewhat more evidence than you posting a personal opinion with no substance to it. Just give him a chance (and that goes to everybody deriding him) he is no worse a gamble than Lavery, Hanson, Thomas or Hussey and we don't have constant derision of them.

If he's injured that's yet more support for those who said we shouldn't have signed him because he's always injured...
Can you post a link to whoever that was so we can heap a mountain of praise on them?

It's not like we could've bought Madine, Rhodes or Assombalonga with the money.

No, but would could have spent it on someone who scores more than zero goals and is actually fit.

Or even a wing back who can cross.

He was seen with Duffy? Oh god, sorry, what more evidence do you need!!! Come on mate, you’ve got to know that’s the least substantial evidence possible!

P.s. Duffy played today... so how does that fit into this scenario?

Don’t give me ‘give him a chance’!!!! He’s been here all pissing season and hasn’t scored a goal! What counts as a chance? It’s pathetic.

Some wise guy decided to give him a 3 year fucking contract too so we are well and truly lumbered with him. If he can’t get on the bench now when we have strikers missing as many chances as they are then the writing is on the wall for him.

James Shield asked about this at the weekend. Wilder’s response:

“Ched had a little bit of a set-back. It’s been a real difficult season for him.

“We recognise, really, we are looking next year now for Ched. But if we need him, you know he’s going to stick his hand up and get out there. He’s had a few set-backs along the way which is disappointing for him, but if Ched does have a part to play, I know he’ll play it well.

“It’s not been an ideal situation,” Wilder acknowledged. “But it’s one we have faith in that, if he does stay fit and with a bit of luck, he’s got a big role to play here going forward.”

I assume that Wilder means “next season” rather than “next year”. Though I won’t be at all surprised if come September “next year” becomes the target...

Is he just going to sit around in the John Ebbrell memorial medical room picking up a salary for three seasons?
