I was never the biggest Warnock fan and was glad when he got the boot as his SUFC time was well and truly over. Some would also say he landed on his feet at QPR and my old Gran, (or yours) could have got promotion with that squad............. but..fair play, he's done well and you could see there wasn't a sparkle in his eye today...

Well done Neil, all the best

Er, 'that squad' were 20th when Warnock arrived - they were below Palace who had a points deduction. Let's face it, NW is a superb lower-division manager whose record is amazing. Now if QPR sack him and get Lippi (or Ranieri) in, he'll be looking for a job. It sure do raise some interesting possibilities...

Don't understand why people hated Warnock. Yeah, he made mistakes but all managers do.

Paul Lambert, now that's a real achievement.

A good story, the Norwich Board picking Bryan Gunn, getting twatted at home by Colchester, sack Gunn and set the Colchester manager on, Paul Lambert.

I have no doubt Len, that we can and have done the Bryan Gunn part .......... which one fo the other managers who have beaten us do we choose.

I know, for next season we keep Micky Adams, but the first one to beat us 0 - 5 gets the Job

Agreed, and fuck off Warnock, a true reptile of a man. Hope to see that sickly smirk wiped off your face next season, and all being well condemn your self loving, whiny boy "the world's against" me attitude to the garden in Devon, where we won't have to listen to how big a Blade you are anymore, how QPR getting promoted was your best ever, and in general just how great you think you are.

Could be whoever we're playing first game the way we're heading.

It is pure and simple - if he had stayed we would not be in this position now - mccabe - your a twat.

Pleased for him - he's done an excellent job there, transforming a team heading for relegation to one that won the division with ease the following year. No wonder he's saying it's his greatest achievement, because quite simply it is. I've spoken to plenty of Rs fans the past season and haven't heard a word against him - contrast with United fans at any point of his time here, including at the peaks in 2003 and 2006. I'm yet to hear any that think he should be removed, as Briatore hinted at a few months back. A nice touch by the club to send him out first for the trophy presentation.

He's improved since he left us. Had we stayed up, we might have seen some of this the following season in the Premiership. He's still got a great eye for a player - Ambrose on a free for Palace, Mackie for £150k at QPR etc. But the real change has come with his midfield a QPR. He's still keen to play with width, he's still got a solid defence, but he's now accepted the need for the odd luxury player, like Taarabt. The Warnock of 5 years ago might have terminated the loan of Taarabt and sent him back to Spurs when he came to the club. Not only did he not do that, he got him playing well, made him his captain, and created a system for the team built around him. That would frankly have been unheard of in his time with us. There are signings he would have made for us given the chance, like Tommy Smith or Wayne Routledge, but there'd always been a visible reluctance to go after the more unpredictable types like Taarabt.

He's also thankfully lost a lot of the 'everyone's against me' mentality with officials. In an interview the other week (or his column in the Indy) he admitted he was wrong to have had that attitude with us in the Premiership - it was natural that the bigger teams get more decisions because they are naturally going to have far more of the play in the game. Again, something it's taken him quite a while to realise.

He'll need to substantially add to the squad this summer, but it sounds like they will invest. New strikers, Routledge in permanently, and a couple of defenders. Probably someone to replace Derry. Funny to think back at the angry reaction on here and elsewhere when Blackwell was said to be lining up a move for him when Derry was still at Leeds.

Btw, best season ever for Paddy Kenny too? Championship team of the year, Players' Player of the Year, and Supporters Player of the Year (Taarabt 2nd in both apparently).

Or maybe, if they'd had the bollocks to sack him quicker, we wouldn't have been relegated from the Prem ;)

i was always a big fan of warnock and i still cant understand the ammount of ill feeling towards him
in retrospect i think his biggest achievement was getting mccabe to loosen the purse strings to bring in the likes of webber, unsworth etc

Getting us up after 7 years was a greater achievement than getting the multi-millionaires out of the worst Championship in living memory.

Over the 7 years he was able to build up a team gradually. At QPR, he brought in almost a new 11 and got it gelling immediately, which I would say is a greater achievement. In terms of what he spent, he didn't spend much really compared to teams promoted in recent years, not that much more than us in 2005-06, and less than Robson did for us. Signings included:

Smith - £1.5m
Taarabt - believed to be £1m
Hulse - believed to be £1m
Kenny - £750k
Orr - £500k
Mackie - £150k
Hill, Derry, Shittu, Chimbonda, Hibbert, Moen - Free

Total just under £6 million. And less therefore than the money we used for loans alone the last 2 years. Twice the amount you like to use for young Chedwyn's fee. Beattie and Naysmith were £5 million, and that was adding to a team narrowly relegated from the Prem, not a team on the verge of falling out of the Championship. We spent about £4 million in our promotion season - again, we started off from a better position than that QPR team.

So yes, a great achievement, and more impressive from a footballing point of view than the steady build-up that led to promotion in 05-06 - which in itself was influenced largely by extra investment.

As someone said, any of our grannies could have got QPR up this season.
They must have been one of the clear favourites and unsurprisingly they've gone up.
If that ranks as an amazing achievement, it underlines how 'amazing' Warnock's achievements have been in the lower leagues.

Fascinating Len. No doubt this is why QPR were the clear favourites to win the league pre-season, because as you say it was always clearly going to turn out this way. Let's have a look at Paddy Power's odds at the start of August:

Middlesbrough, Nottm Forest 15/2
Burnley, QPR 10/1
Reading 12/1
Hull 14/1
Leeds, Bristol C, Ipswich, Norwich, Leicester, Cardiff, Pompey, Blades - all 16/1
Swansea - 18/1

Paul Lambert, now that's a real achievement.

Aye, what is it now - 6 or 7 promotions. But that's not an achievement is it - because it would indicate that you were spectacularly wrong. But you don't need to admit it Len - we already know.

I'm sure Len made a killing then, put his house on it as it was so clear cut.

Len must be worth a few bob!

;)

Don't think Lambert's got 6 or 7 promotions yet but his achievement this season is greater than any in Warnock's career.

Arguable. But you were clearly insinuating that Warnock hasn't really achieved by saying "Lambert's was a real achievement".

Let's be honest Len. You were clearly completely wrong about Warnock. We know you're not big enough to accept this, so expect nothing more....:)

It's part and parcel of supporting the Blades. You must hate our manager with a passion, whoever it may be.

Yup, this league is shit and it's absolutely no surprise to anyone that QPR have walked it in their sleep.
But Lambert's achievement of back-to-back promotions with the former Rochdale centre forward leading the line, now that is a real achievement.
And Alco, I was completely right about Warnock who was one of the luckiest managers around to be given two or three times longer than your typical manager to gain promotion.
Monkey typing Shakespeare.
