Referee

Are you kidding? The referee was Poor, and he did influence the game. It was a clear foul on one of our players at the edge of Burnley's box. The referee did not give it; they countered and scored. their second goal is a complete fluke and that did for us. How can you say we were bored and got what we deserved? you must be a Burnley fan.

Only just read as well that the foul on O’Hare that wasn’t given was by Cullen.

So originally he should have been off at 0-0 but definitely should have been off at 0-1.

Looking back that one passage of play summed him up.

Foul to us. Second yellow for their man.

Both not given.

Foul to them. Rebounded free kick and their man is stood miles off on the 6 yard line.

How could one bloke get so many things wrong in one sequence of play?

We groaned about VAR but maybe today's poor refereeing changes opinion. Granted, VAR doesn't review yellows but the build up to their second goal (had it been an EPL game) would probably have been ruled out. Also those 2 offside calls - however we did fuck all from those attacks so makes no difference anyway.

Tin hat on but I thought the ref did well 1st half but missed a couple early 2nd half that got the crowd on his back (rightly so). The pressure then got to him and he looked totally inept for the remainder…..however, we were outplayed regardless of his intervention

I think faith in the refereeing decisions was undermined in the first few minutes when there were two occasions the linesman gave the throw in one way and was overruled by the ref. Usually the linesmen put their flag up and only indicate whose throwin it is after the ref has pointed. There was another free kick very early on where the linesman and ref gave contrary decisions (right in front of the linesman). They didn't seem to be operating in sync.
Cullen was a lucky lad not to have been sent off as well.

I always feel with referees that they are largely OK. However there are a few exceptions. You do see some referees who just go too hard to stamp their authority on the game and it ruins it.

Also what you tend to notice or remember is if a ref does make a few blinders then crowds tend to pick up on it. Sometimes you do also get refs that just seem to leave you scratching your head.

I felt yesterday Langford did make a few puzzling decisions. And he certainly let them off for Cullen as that probably should have been a 2nd yellow. Believe that was before they scored too?

The decision not to award a foul on OHare was much more important than it appeared at the time. And it's just as clear a foul as what Burnley were awarded a free kick for that resulted in their 2nd goal. Weird too because he didn't gesture he was playing on. So if he just didn't think it was a foul it's even more puzzling.

I read earlier that Langford/linesman in a match earlier this season missed that the ball went 1 foot out of play in the lead up to a goal that resulted in Norwich winning 3-2.

The Ref was absolute wank. I don't mind us losing to a better team on the day, but you have to have some consistency, and if you blow the whistle for one thing, then you have to blow the whistle every time it happens, not just when you feel like it.

The Ref and both lino's couldn't agree on whose throw-in it was.

I'd like to think that the Ref's car ran out of petrol, half way across the snake, on his way back to Burnley, and he had to walk home. Twat.

The ref was woefully inconsistent.

Imho he should have blown for us before they went up and got the free kick for their second.

That said, blaming the ref for losing is really missing where we're short of teams like Burnley.

The ref and Lino were awful from minute 1to 90 . But they were superior all over the pitch, not a shot on goal from us and a controlled performance from them.We had no shape in the second half and why subs weren’t brought on after their 2nd was strange. We could have took off 3/4 players who were off it but the bench was so lightweight. Wilders post match was a different game to what we saw but we have done great up to now,The alarming worry to me is that we have played 3 decent teams and got beaten easily.
Don’t disagree.

But would they have been superior if at 0-0 they had to play with a man light for a hour or so? Regardless of how United played, that was a pivotal decision. It changed the game by him not applying the laws.

More than anything the ref made the game unwatchable. Constantly blowing his whistle for non-fouls, never playing advantage, and then when he had a big decision to make (the Cullen foul on O'Hare) he basically bottled it because he was terrified of making it. It was easier to pretend he didn't see the foul rather than having to decide whether or not to send Cullen off.

And the booking for Hamer? Shocking, just shocking. Everyone in the ground could see he got a big touch on the ball. The ref wasn't the reason we lost but he didn't help us - or the quality of the game.

We groaned about VAR but maybe today's poor refereeing changes opinion.

Not mine. If more people could accept the inevitability of human error we’d not have VAR ruining the stadium experience.

We lost to the better team. The ref was average. Crack on.

This is the same ref that waived play on when Coutts broke his leg wasn't it?

I don't think that the PL wants the Blades to go back up, more interest from them for Leeds and Burnley. The refs are employed by the league but don't dare criticise them as they are beyond reproach even if they stink the joint out!

It's the first time i've seen that. I accept anyone can make a mistake /error of judgement but it was a recurring theme yesterday. The second goal was a killer as we were beginning to dominate until Burnley had their stroke of luck, and who knows what might have happened had we had the free kick instead. I think Burnley played well but they didn't need any help from the ref - intentional or not.

I don’t often criticise referees on here. Tone was set early on with several poor decisions, including one where O’Hare was back defending, was clearly fouled from behind, managed to kick the ball out, and the ref gave the coward’s decision of a goal-kick to us. It was either our foul or a corner to them. He took the easy way out, and that was true of many of his rulings.

It’s all ifs and buts mate,I just thought that were the better “team “,organised, more technical, kept shape, looked sharper.Flemmings movement kept Soutter guessing a few times. If Hamer and Moore are off it,we struggle, and they were bang average yesterday . It’s no disgrace,if we had a full side or near enough it’s a different game,we are running on fumes and even Plymouth outplayed us,bare bones squad but done really well up to now considering.

I saw yesterday where Hamer was clearly being fouled and dragged to floor I think for an attacking corner to them in front of the KOP and he just played on.

If the game had finished 0-0 we would have walked out saying what a shite game by 2 boring teams reffed by another awful ref. Stats don't always tell the truth, I think they did this game as IMHO there was little to choose between them. Not convinced Ohare was fouled but the git in the middle made so many mistakes united should mark him with a zero and put in a complaint about how biased he was.

I thought the referee was a disgrace. Good refs see a challenge and for a split second keep their eyes on what goes on after, not this turd, he didn't see Burnley leave something in there almost every challenge. Sheer incompetence and their left back fell over his own feet twice and got a foul it beggars belief. However we didn't turn up again in a big game. Burnley deserved the points unfortunately
